German autobahn first experience this is what It's REALLY like. Our vanlife Europe campervan series continues in Wurzburg, Bavaria Germany.

This German travel video shows what the German Autobahn is really like. Surprisingly to us, there are speed limits but it is possible to go as fast as you want. It doesn't feel dangerous and actually feels very safe despite the crazy speeds. The fastest road in the world was mildly underwhelming in that it is just a road in Germany :) We then made our way to Wurtzburg, a charming city in Germanys wine region of Bavaria. We try the local wine, amazing German beer and Franconian sausages. A must eat in Germany!!

In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. The Autobahn is not "a" road though, it's actually a whole network of highways all over the country.

Yeah, I would also be very scared if I had to drive on the Autobahn at such speed ... and suddenly find out that the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

You’re sitting in a Van with max 140km/h and wonder about the Mythos German Autobahn. Take a car with 200hp+ and go for a 200km/h +ride. Then you will really feel the German Autobahn if you get passed at this speed.

Hey you Guys, good to see ya, well done on the Autobahn safedriving Emma, Take no notice of CiderChops lolol. Remember a while back i told you i went to Todtmoos in the Black Forest driving a Bandbus tour coach, it was fabulous, and the Wine from their region was superb. Good to see Germany again, i love the country, anyway, on the way back, we came back through the Hook of Holland border crossing, which at that time(pre- EU) You had to stop for passport control etc green papers, while we were stopped there and passengers were being checked, a Porsche 911 cabriolet turns up with two Dutch Highway police inside looking lovingly at the Coach(making that impressed look at me), with their machiine guns mounted vertically in their holders between them. They were wearing full length Brown leather flying jackets with sheepskin interiors and the helmets to match, looked like a modern day Biggles thing going on lol. I looked back and signalled at him by revving the engine of the Coach which made it rock with its v12 engine roaring, lolol, he loved the sound, revved his too, which was funny as hell, passengers are now onboard, so i signalled about us having a race, lol he agreed and said you have a 3 minute headstart, lolol by now all the passengers were stomping their feet in anticipation of seeing the Police car catching us, 2 mins 45 still no sign of them, passengers still stomping and now shouting out rule britannia like we had won the race . . . .lmao . . . .bang on 3mins i just see two headlights on full beam and a blur as it went past, with two arms sticking out showing the proverbial finger lmao, the whole coach went wild with laughter and we were doing 80 in a bloody 48ft double decker lol, about 2miles up the road there they were having pulled over a car for speeding i guess, waving as we went by, with my Full Air horns blaring at a sedate 50 mph lolol, Great times they were. Sorry if it went on a bit lol. See ya on the next one, stay safe!!

Pro tips ;) from Germany for drinking white wine: a) White wine has to be served chilled. b) Hold your glass by the stem to avoid heating the wine with your hands. For red wine, it doesn't matter. And yes, I have to agree: 130 km/h speed limit is enough, free speed often just unleashes a ton of idiots on our streets.

The motorways in the UK are not so bad after all. They are often better than those in Germany. Okay, but they are also usually even busier than ours. Today I drove from home to Cologne and back, a distance of 110 kilometres. On the A1 there were road works and traffic jams everywhere, I had an average speed of 70 km/h. Before the Leverkusen motorway junction there was a shock, a good 5 kilometres of traffic jam in the right-hand lane, they all wanted to take the A3 towards Frankfurt. This so important and busy motorway junction Leverkusen is still a cloverleaf that can't cope with this mass of cars, so there are almost always long traffic jams at this point. At least now they have probably started to rebuild this nightmare of a motorway junction. I wanted to be smart and continued on the A1 towards Aachen, and then I wanted to get to Cologne city centre by another route. A nightmare on the Rhine bridge of the Autobahn 1 then, this bridge is simply embarrassing for Germany! Since more than 10 years so broken that no truck is allowed to use it anymore! And the new construction has been going at a snail's pace for many years. Finally I finally reached my destination via the crowded streets in Cologne. On the way back, I couldn't just drive back home on the Autobahn 1, because on this side the Autobahn was closed for this weekend due to construction work. So I had to take the A3/A2/A1, but before I could get on the Autobahn 2, there was over 50 kilometres of very slow traffic, construction sites and many, many cars. You were so lucky that you had a free ride!

Hey it is better than UK autobhan always congested or blocked 🚫 because of road works or something . Bank holiday, from London you are in a congestion on a way out all day and then on a way back on Sunday you are stuck again . Most of a bank holiday spent on the autobhan . That's why people think German autobahns are great. Because they are better experience .

The one survival trick for unlimited bits of Autobahn is: Always keep your mirrors in view. All dangers that will get you come from behind (Unless you are the danger, of course.). Then the Autobahn is so nicely boring, you could think you are somewhere rather civilised, and, well, nicely boring. A place like, yes, Germany! ^^)

Even in areas without speed limits, most drivers still go < 130 km/h. In these areas I typically drive 150-160, and that’s faster than probably about 90%. But you always have to keep an eye on your mirrors for the remaining 10%. They will chew you up.

Glad you enjoyed it :-) but please allow me one comment about stereotypes you brought up: chips with sauerkraut is really confirming some about brits ;-) but I'm still happy you didn't order vinegar with it... :-D

I hope Emma had the foresight to come to an agreement with Alex. I do the driving and you change the tyres.

the autobahn is the best. Whenever I drive my Audi there I wind it up. Fastest I have been is 160mph but you have to drive with incredible far ahead.

It's very sad. There are a lot of speed limits on the autobahn these days. 160 is 100 miles an hour. You need to be an a small car to get a real feel for the speed. Have you thought about going with Patreon? Weinfests are huge in Germany. There are many more weinfests than bierfests. Food? Fleischkaese.

I'm really loving all your videos!! Thank you so much for sharing. I have an odd question: The screen in your rented van... is that one you brought along or was it part of the van?? If you brought it along can you share what it is please? We just return home from a road trip and I would love to have had a screen that large! Thank you!

really don't understand why people are so afraid of the autobahn .. it's very straight with no crossroads and guarding rails left and right .. with plenty space per car (wide) so you can drive fast very savely .. so what's frightening about it?

Me, currently in Japan is having sausages often...I guess I am really truly German. Haha. Because all of my friends are like: Are you serious? Saussies again? And I'm like: Ya.... Japan has some good sausages, let me know when you're here and I let you know what to get! Haha.
