When someone says “German culture,” you might think pretzels, beer, or a dark and tumultuous past. But real German traditional clothing is actually diverse and extremely vibrant! Much of it was suppressed throughout the 20th century - and much of that was due to immense cultural suppression and erasure by the Third Reich. We’re still living with the repercussions, as many Germans today don’t even know how rich and beautiful their real culture really is. Thanks to photographer Gregor Hohenburg, we have a group of amazing photographs to see the splendor of what is real, regional, German traditional dress.
