Time for COSTCO! This is Phil's first time experiencing a Costco shopping experience and food! Everything is BIGGER during this shopping experience to our typical shopping trips in Germany! The shopping carts are bigger, the food packages are bigger and the pizza is bigger! What are your thoughts on the Costco food? Do you like Costco pizza or hot dogs?

Costco is my go to place for their whole bean coffee and breakfast cereal. A two pack of giant Cheerios is way less than it would be at the grocery store. The coffee is also much cheaper than it would be at a grocery store. They usually have really nice berries and the pears tend to be very good. The most dangerous part is the snack aisle the chocolate covered almonds just call my name.

No. In Germany there is Metro, Handelshof that are similar, but not that big. They had and maybe have gas stations as well and you need to have a member card. All in all it is only interesting if you need really big portions of food. Prices for regular sized stuff is often much cheaper in your regular EDEKA, REWE, LIDL, etc. It is nonsense to buy these big packages. Either you eat too much and get fat (me) or you throw half of it into the bin. You need big fridges to store all the unnecessary crap you bought that need way to much power. Bad for the enviroment. It is all so obvious, but also tempting. Live reasonable and healthy and smart or get caught in the commerce machinery. Wish I could resist temptation more often, but I hate throwing food away, so I am learning.

@@garrettklein7720 I've heard the same thing. Sam's Club also sells the same chicken for the same price. I tried it, and was actually disappointed in it. Walmart sells smaller rotisserie chickens, and they actually have more flavor to them, than the oversized chickens. I will usually wait until Walmart marks down the chicken, and buy it. It's cold, but I'm OK with it. When it's hot, in some states, hot chicken is taxed, whereas cold chicken is not. That's the case in Indiana, where the sales tax is 7%, and if this qualifies for the stadium tax in the Indianapolis area, that's an additional 2% on top of the state 7%, making it 9%. By me, only Walmart and Meijer sell cold rotisserie chicken. My local Strack and Van Til stores takes all unsold rotisserie chickens, and use it to make rotisserie chicken salad to sell in the deli department, and any leftover chicken is used to sell as shredded rotisserie chicken. I don't know what my local Jewel Osco does with unsold rotisserie chickens.

Former Costco employee. They're checking your receipts for two specific things: a code saying that your receipt is from THAT day and not an old one you're using to steal and the other thing is just big items, like TV's, computers, etc. Every company builds in a buffer for small items being stolen (either on purpose or by accident) but the big things will hurt a business. That's not to say you should go out and steal small things, because you definitely shouldn't do that. But that's why the check goes so quickly.

We have a "Costco rule" where if it's interesting and reasonably priced (for what it is)...BUY IT! They may not carry it again for awhile or ever and they have a great, liberal return policy so there's really no down side. Thinking, oh, maybe not now. I'll think about it and get it next time...rarely works. Just get it because it's easier to return if it's a disappointment versus lamenting not buying it because it ain't there any more!

Your comment about sharing pizza vs one pizza per person, definitely is true. I'm from the US, so we all are used to sharing an entire pizza with friends, family, etc. But when I was in Italy, I noticed how easy it was to eat an entire pizza by yourself. I remember, one time in Naples, at a restaurant, watching a nice little old lady and her friend sitting next to us (they must have been in their 70s), and they both ordered a pizza for themselves. And they both ate them - like, all of it. It was amazing.

Where I live (SoCal) the last time, I went, they were still closed due to COVID. I hope they are open now or reopen soon. My favorite chain pizza is Round Table Pizza. It’s one of those expensive pizzas. I’ll be honest: I’ll take Round Table over virtually any other pizza where I live, if given the choice. The price is inconsequential to me. I can’t wait for a Costco to come to middle Georgia. We have a Sam’s Club 20 miles away but no Costco nearby. I hear folks prefer Costco over Sam’s but I’ve never been in a Costco.

Costco is a warehouse and is definitely worth it. They stock high quality stuff for great prices and the Costco delivery/customer service is top. You can save a lot of money by shopping there and get quality food and other items.

As a 'seasoned' reluctant American who swore his love for Dresden two months ago I tell you that your takes on American consumer culture are spot-on. I always find myself smiling as I watch your vlogs. Living in the US can be isolating. Thanks for helping me to feel more globally connected and congrats for enjoying your time in Nederland, my favourite country.

There exist something similiar here in Germany. I think it was called "Ratio" where I often went as a kid cause my grandma had a card that allowed her to go there. My grandma often only went there cause of the HUGE bags of frozen vegetables for insanly cheap prices (where else do you get 5kg bags of vegetables for only 2€?) and because our favourite 200g bars of chocolate had a price of like almost nothing there. My grandma allways bought sooooo much vegetables for the entire family there

Costco is a Warehouse superstore. Originally created for independent/small business to buy their supplies in bulk. Most people/famlies buy this for either parties or get togethers (for birthdays, holidays etc.) But primarily to stock their pantries for a month at least. I hope as you ate the rotisserie chicken you also ate/swallowed your words that it's "probably not the best". If you haven't already, you should add an addendum or follow up statement regarding the rotisserie chicken.

I love Costco its my favorite place to shop. They have pretty much everything you need. When I shop I do a lot of price comprehensions like the cost versus the quantity. Just for example Costco two pack of the large peanut butter is like $8 and at a regular grocery store just for one of those is like $6 so I will buy peanut butter at Costco same with cereal, coffee, creamer and a lot of other items because of the quantity and price. Hope you enjoyed Costco

We don't have Costco, but do have Sam's Club. We only do major shopping every three months or so. We buy in bulk, split it all up into meal-size vacuum sealer bags and we save a ton, plus always have meals covered for a long time.

FYI, Kirkland signature brand comes from where the original Costco is. I'm from Kirkland, grew up getting the hot dog and soda meal. Started at $1.50, and it's still the same price. Only difference is that it was a can of soda and it was a hot dog stand. Now you saw what the choices are

Hey, I saw Brazi Bites in there. Our Costco stopped carrying it over the summer. Loved those. Could cook up just a few at a time since a whole loaf goes bad before I finish it. Typically, I get stuff from the frozen or fridge sections. I avoid the veggies, since it's big with short "use by" dates. The Take-and-Bake stuff is pretty good, too. Regarding if something is cheaper than elsewhere: Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Just like anything, you have to shop around. There's a channel called "Deal Guy" who will show good deals he found at Costco that month.

Evil stuff. 🤤 I’m a German/Canadian and my husband is American, so this channel is weirdly familiar. 🤣🙌 I spent from 7 to 17 in Germany/Europe during the 80s and my German side of the family still lives in the Hamm, Munich, Lahr and Baden-Baden regions. It’s hard to live without Costco or Sam’s Club in Hawai’i because of the additional Shipping costs. Bulky things like cereal, toilet paper, diaper, etc. are almost always bought from those type of stores. Regular grocery stores just can’t compete. I heard there was a warehouse-like store in Germany, too. Maybe in München?
