16 year old German Open Champion, I don't recall any younger winner before. Fan Zhendong exceeded the accomplishments of any Chinese players who were at the same age as he is right now. That is no luck that he beat Zhang Jike and Ovtcharov, who are both at the peak of their careers.

To me the biggest feat was beating Samsonov and Ovtcharov after, we all know that win over Zhang at pro tour is not a big deal - Zhang lost to tomas koneczy at one pro tour

Fan Zhendong seems to have been unbeatable during this open. Too fast, too consistent, too powerful, too offensive, almost no mistake. Ovtcharov did his best and even changed his tactics on the last set to adapt to the game of Fan, trying to generate more spin and slow down the pace to have more time to adjust. Fan Zhendong was just too strong, every opponent was overwhelmed,this week,even Zhang Jike.He beats every record of precocity and I have no doubt he'll become the best contender for a world title within 1 or 2 years.

it's funny reading this 7 years later, in 2020, when FZD has yet to win a world championship but has now won the world cup three times in a row, and is finally ready to beat malong in the olympics 2021.

Tuấn Trọng Đào Its rather teaching them how to cope with the pressure. Its impossible to not have pressure unless u have no emotion.

Amazing Match !!! Each and every point was a highlight since they were both fighting as much as they could to win the trophy. I believe Fan Zhendong deserved the 1st place but i wish Dima was the winner, due to the fact that the tournament was held in his own country. Fan is certainly going to develope into a great player and possibly reach the top 4 Chinese players in the World Ranking.

Beating three top ten players in the world in succession and winning back to back ITTF tournaments proved that FZ belongs to the elite tt players of the world. At 16 years old, I have no doubt that he will win a bunch of tournaments. More power to you FZ!!!

FZD served a topspin and Ovtcharov expected such thing, so "what a backhand!" FZD actually has a top class backhand, but he lacks big time experience. But he's young, so freaking young.

***** You might be right, but i don't think all Chinese players. this German player won his teammate Boll, that means he plays quite well, and you can see he did sometimes, i think it's good way to focus on Fan's returning service using wrist, that's quite advanced technique. that makes his speed much much faster, that's the point. just my 2 cents.

Wow the young man from China, Fan Zhendong is brilliant!!! Ovtcharov put up a good fight. Who know´s, maybe he could have won if he had´nt lost

Ovtcharov should change his tactics. Fan is only 16 and with short body size, so he can react quicker. Basically Ovtcharov should defense first and actively (yes, not attack), absorb the speed, and try to keep close to the table and move Fan. Fan is a beast when he stands close to the table.

★★★★★ Despite the fact that their previous dramatic victories (i.e. Fan Zhendong vs. Samsonov at semi-final; Ovtcharov vs. Masato Shiono at Round 3) bolster their confidence initially, it is Fan Zhendong who has enough strength and mental toughness to carry on in the face of battle till the end and thus winning the final match. It’s a sad day for Germany when Germany’s best hope Ovtcharov fails to win the 2013 German Open !

Dimitrij's advantage is power and reach, but because he is a larger man, he runs slower, so Fan's strategy is to hit wide left and right to make him run and then sometimes hit to his torso.

You may see the match between FZD and Ma Long here. It is men's single's final of China's 12th National Games (China's version of Olympic Games held every 4 years) on Sept. 10, 2013. Fan was leading 3:2 in games, and 9:8 in Game 6. But Ma Long won the match 4:3. Very close. You can find the KZfaq video here. habe selten solche schnellen Reaktionen bei einem Spieler gesehen wie bei Fan, und solche hat er sogar mehrmals in diesem Spiel gebracht, wie am Ende des letzten Satzes bspw.

What a match! Great play by both players. A key factor in table tennis is mental strengh. Players "cho" to give themself a mental boost and they feel that they are "in the zone". In important matches players (most chinese) tend to cho more often, creating a mental battle. Some players might be annoyed when they play against someone who cho's a lot and I feel that as long as you cho after the point ends, it is OK. Ovtcharov has a habit of exhailing loudly like tennis players do. He does that when the ball is in play and in my opinion, that is not OK. What are your opinions about choing and noise making? Oh, and thanks for the upload :-)

You are right. 'choi' after a point is a celebration. There is not much difference with the noise from the audience.Moaning at every time hitting the ball is really a bad habit. It affects the opponent during the play. When the palyer is young the coach shoud stop this habit developing.Moaning happens more in weak/sick body. Every movement seems a huge effort.......

I also just noticed that. Saw Ma Long use it once or twice. It's like telling the opponent "let's cut the fancy BS and get down to business"

lol OBVIOUSLY zhang jike beats him aswell if he plays seriously. wang hao, yan an and xu xin can beat him, too.... but i think fan will beat them in 2 years
