It is easier to understand the Wehrmacht's measurements of distance and range using the metric system compared to the American system, which uses feet, yards, miles, and football fields. Saying "The enemy is 3 football fields ahead" is ridiculous.

in fact, they did try to recruit ex-wehrmacht veterans to counter a possible soviet strike in western europe.

National Socialists were not so far in ideology from Commies tbh. Both try to break basic human values such as property, dignity and personal freedom in favor of thinking like an anthill while simultaneously exterminating a selected social group pointed by the regime authorities as the enemy... and all that to achieve greater good the utopia and that kind of bulls$&@.
