I don’t muzzle mine either. My vet said mine is the sweetest one she sees at the practice. Matter of fact when the vet was prego Bird would lick her belly through her scrubs. I hope Zeus feels better soon. ❤️

Thank you for sharing your Zeus with us. I myself had a GSD and we also named him Zeus. He was my ride or die partner of 12 years. A total of 4 days a week for 12 years my Zeus rode with me everywhere I went as long as we stopped by the store for him a beef jerky. Our Zeus left us in April of this year and coming home is not the same anymore. I miss the days when I get home hearing him bark and jumping on the back door to greet me. A dog is truly mans best friend. Thanks you for the videos.

Poor Zeus! We had a vet appointment just like yours. Different vet was scared tried to muzzle and was never the same since that (nervous walking in the door). Went to new vet and now our GSD loves to go to the vet again!. Love our new vet!!!

A lot of German Shepherds get what's called an aural hematoma... it's caused by then whipping their head around because they have itchy ears. my shepherd had such waxy see ears that I had to clean them out every other day and I would be wiping out lots of soft brown wax. Zeus is such a handsome boy, you have to commit time and effort to coat care, Nail Care and ear Care on a daily basis to make sure that his nails done quickly long that his ears are clean and that he is brushed daily otherwise you'll be shedding all over the place it is what comes with having a German Shepherd.

My worlds best friend GSD that we lost last year was so chill the vet gave him a prostate exam with sedation, no muzzle, no nothing. We adopted a 9 y.o. female that lost her owner. Her vet records indicated she would be great with vet then unexpectedly bite at. She went bonkers when we took her to the vet. The second the tech walked in. Even growled at my wife then knocked it off when she realized what she had done. She let me muzzle her. No pushback at all. But was not happy the tech was examining her, etc. We bought a nice muzzle and put it on her at the house. Over the last year she has gotten better. To the point where she has her muzzle on, I am right head-to-head with her talking to her, and she doesn’t act out at all. Even got a shot with no reaction. Poor Zeus. Give him time and work with him.

It was funny when you talked about him. One ear up not really interested the other back. Then When he heard his name, more interested. 9 times out of 10 they seem to Love going to the Vet, because it’s a Pleasant Outing and they’re usually the Center of Attention

I muzzle-trained my GSD because it's the law that they have to be muzzled in a public place (even though almost nobody bothers) and it made me feel calmer knowing that he physically couldn't bite anyone (and calm me = calm dog). It was a mesh muzzle open at the end so that he could drink/have a treat and at first he *hated* it, it took ten minutes to get it on. But as soon as he realised that nasty muzzle = lovely walk it took five seconds to put it on. As soon as we got home I took it straight off again.

My GSD is 4 and she has never had a crate or a muzzle! At home she doesn't have a leash either! She doesn't leave our property. We love her dearly and she just wants to be with us and play. ❤❤❤

This happens to me as well at my local vet… for whatever reason some vets get nervous and my dog picks up on the fear and wants nothing to do with the examination.

Jax gets ear infections too. They typically clear up after medication. Also in his early years I found out he had an allergy to chicken. Jax goes through the ear infections usually in the fall. When the weather is changing.

A vet who is scared of a passive dog needs a new line of work lol. When he comes across a serious business dog reeking of fear, its game over

Do you plan to muzzle train? It would be a shame if he couldn’t access medical care. It’s understandable that a veterinarian would want to muzzle a dog experiencing pain. Even the friendliness, mild mannered dog can bite when a vet inflicts pain-which obviously happens when touching an infected ear. The vets aren’t afraid of dogs, they’ve seen everything and are realistic and have the right and responsibility to protect themselves.

I have a boxer who loves the vet as she thinks going there is the place to get extra belly rubs.... Sounds like the problem was with the vet that was scared of the dog, might want to request someone who is not scared of dogs or find a new vet to go to... And no my boxer never had any training other then her basic leash/no pull harness..

We had our dogs protection-trained for our business - the positive outcome from the professional training was, our dogs were normal and docile under all conditions, including going to the Vet. The only time they would 'do the job they were trained for' is if they were alerted in the right way. We had a 150 pound large breed dog (a Rottweiler) who laid down on a cushion, with his head in the lap of the dentist, who cleaned his teeth. All our dogs were just as docile like that. A dog that is always 'on' is risky because their range of behavior, in their minds, is very broad and unrestricted. Having a visit from the neighbors with their 3 and 4 year old children, with an 'always on' dog is a huge risk. Just something to think about.

We are lucky and live out in the country so the Vets here consider all dogs (including our fidgety GSD) small animals ;)

I have had three German Shepherds, all of them rescues and all of them sweethearts. For the most part, I held my dogs when they were getting checkups after surgery, or anything that might be scary or painful to them. If the vet was ok with not insisting on a muzzle, I wanted them to see that if anyone was going to be bitten, it would be me. I don't advocate this for other people. I knew my dogs pretty well, but you never really know. It all turned out fine, but I do remember one time when a vet was manipulating one of my dogs legs after surgery. It was obviously somewhat painful and at one point, my dog stuck his muzzle down between my thighs in the hope that the vet couldn't see him, I guess. I can remember thinking "I hope I am right about this dog because if I am not, this is really going to hurt." He never did bite me or the vet, but after a few minutes, he did start bucking like a horse, lol.

MY SHEPHERD HAD THE SAME EAR ISSUE.. it happened to her 2 times.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Poor Baby!!! We have the same with my Boy. We have to Muzzle him now and the one time we didn't, it went very very badly. A vet grabbed his front leg, bent his paw up at the wrist and for some INSANE reason, TWISTED his paw 90 degrees inward in a big jerk and he latched on to her arm and did a LOT of damage. She hurt his leg pretty badly and he retaliated, wasn't his fault. BTW, Zeus looks a LOT like my big boy.

This owner is such a drama Queen. My Lady who is a shepherd too had the same problem and she knows as soon as we drive into the parking lot where she is lol. The vet goes there's that shepherd. She has a rep!! But in order to give the care she needs he has to do what he has to do. I've been bitten before not a good thing. We love our pets like their our child oh yeah this is the second time I ran across this video. So don't make your vet sweat suck it up as God to grace you to get through the examination in the long-run YOU and your pet will be fine.

PEOPLE DOGS CAN SENSE FEAR FROM PEOPLE. Now, with every dog no matter how trained, and obedient they are....supervision is key....HOWEVER....THE VET BEING AFRAID OF GS?! NAH.....That's not a vet, that's a chicken. Trust me, Zues sensed his fear.....and it probably scared him a bit too. GS, when trained, like Zues over here, and others like mine......THEY ARE THE MOST LOYAL, CLINGY, LOVING DOGS. BUT REMEMBER.....DOGS CAN SENSE ANY FEELING, AND SENSATION FROM OTHER HUMANS FASTER THAN ANYTHING ELSE It's not Zuesy boy fault, the vet was afraid......And, not all owners must muzzle trane....it's a personal preference. Good boy Zues. You always protect momma, brother, daddy and now your fur sister.....

I think the vet who is afraid of your dog should not be a vet not anything over 5 pounds. We had German Shepherd’s growing up. Never had a problem with either of them.

The vet sedated my year old gsd to do a quick examination because he's reactive what pissed me of was I had to give him the sedation we were left in the rain outside until he was deemed ok to approach by they that poor dog and me were soaked he even had a muzzle on but they acted like utter basterds towards the situation and charged me a fortune he'll never ever be going to that vet ever ever again.

A vet, afraid to check a (large) dog’s ears, should perhaps rethink his/her career.

You muzzle train at home for Emergencies just like you had! For a vet that has issues and needs to work with your dog muzzled. That’s the whole point.

Not all dogs need muzzle training, and I'd rarely recommend it. That vet needs to find a new job, where he's not taking care of a live being. Plenty out there. I'd argue he caused more harm to Zeus than help.

No offense your explanation sucks. My male German shepherd was sedated by his wet to treat him properly. Nothing wrong in doing that. For his ear to bleed something really bad was going on. Not just a ear infection. The way you were explaining it sounds really annoying. You talk in riddles. I am being honest here. Not trying to be rude and then again I am definitely not the type who likes to bullshit with words about how I really feel. Maybe people and even you may not like it. I just can't pretend.

I am so lucky to have a vet that loves German shepherds… but the German shepherd still hates the vet 😂 my vet and all the staff tries to pet him and he just wants to hide behind me 😂… I’m not sure how old Zeus is but I do know even after multiple trips as a puppy (found out the expensive way he’s allergic to chicken and turkey) but his first visit after a year they wanted to muzzle him as a precaution, they did that twice and no longer muzzle him (mines a baby that cry’s like he’s being stabbed before they even put the needle in 🤦‍♀️) I actually think, I could be wrong, but I think that after a certain age with dogs that are protective, they do it as a precaution… they also let me go back with him due to his separation anxiety and the fact he will drag the assistant back to me if I don’t go as well … if your vet doesn’t do that might be time to find a good vet

Sounds to me like you need a new vet. He was Obviously afraid of him, which is crazy!! My German Shepard was the most loving dog and NEVER bit anyone. I miss him so much. That vet was over reacting. Your dog can feel the vets fear. Poor baby!

German shepherds do not need to be muzzle trained unless they have a bite history or aggression. If you are afraid of a dog breed you should not be a small animal vet except for birds, squirrels, rats, and cats, unless you are afraid of them too

Come on now! If he needs to see the vet for an examined the doctor needs to do his job. My dog doesn't like my vet 😕 either she a shepherd and she has a reputation in his office lol and Lady gonna be Lady, but at the same time he's gonna give her the care she needs. She's go's next week too get blood work done that's going to be fun! But just like humans they can tell a whole lot from your blood. I feel sorry for the vet. The owners need to realize when you have a spoil dog like Lady pray and ask God to give you strength to get through the examination. That's my advice! I did listen to your whole story because it didn't make sense to me. Why waste the doctor's time and your money if you're not going to let the doctor do his job.
