Our GSP (Snoopy) was with us for 16 years! He loved hunting, fishing ,camping, trekking and was the most affectionate and intellingent dog we've ever had! PS: we didn't need to do all the training you mentioned. We gave him lot's of love and he picked up all we wanted for him very quickly! He won a few medals for his hunting skills. We still miss him!!! :(

I am 63 and have had dogs all of my life. Best dog I ever owned was a GSP. Smart as a whip, disciplined (you could give him the run of the house with no worries), Excellent off leash, saved our Dachshund from 2 Coyotes, just about as good of a dog as you could ever want.

A very thoughtful and well composed video. Shorthairs demand a lot of work, enough said. Out here, in a relatively urban environment, we tend not to see that many, folks with puppies frequently ask me, “When will my GSP slow down?”. I hate to break the news to them that the dog, most likely isn’t going to slow down very much over the course of their lifetime. They get more skillful in their interactions with us, humans. But they remain active and engaged. Having two shorthairs is better than one in many respects.

Absolutely. I’ve had them as pairs for years. They play with each other reducing their dependence on me to give attention all the time.

Ive had 3 gsp i recently lost my 13 year old and it broke my heart more than i could ever imagine i thank god i still have my 4 year old and my recently added 3 month old, greatest family dogs ive ever had

I like breed videos like this. It helps with the decision making process on what to get. Listing the attributes you want and need in a dog, then finding the best breed match (with the most matching attributes) for you is the correct way to get a dog. Do not forget that both owner and dog have built in physical and stimulation requirements. If you aren't a match, it rarely works out. I'm the 3rd rescuer of my female Australian Cattle Dog. The first 2 for her were a complete misinformed mismatched failure 🤦‍♂️

Thank you for this great, concise, video. My wife and I have been going back and forth on Labs vs Shorthair...we love both, but I think a GSP adventure / hunting buddy will fit our lifestyle best.

I have 5 acres and my gsp named Dutch runs and hunts all day but he wants you to be out side as well with him

I have a 6 yr old gsp/pit mix and we walk 4 miles everyday regardless of weather with 2 miles of that walk off leash so he can run. During the summer the walks are alternated daily with a few hours of swimming.

Just got my first GSP Jan 4th. Still working through some road bumps on house breaking. once on the carpet in her play pen last week and tonight she soaked her bed inside her kennel. Can't explain that one except we did a 2 mile walk this morning and even though we had gone outside after, I left the house for a couple hours. I suspect being tired... that is when she figured... what the heck, I am tired and I don't feel like waiting to go outside. Other than that. I need to get her on birds in front of me instead of deer poop and sticks behind me.

NEED HELP!!!! We have a 5 month old GSP and her name is Remi. She has been a great dog and does great with training. She did great with potty training as well, except for in her crate! Unfortunately she is a “dirty dog” and doesn’t mind being in her mess while in her crate. We’ve tried different sized crates, distractions, feeding in her crate, covering the crate. She may go #1 or #2 even in just an hour. We take her out right before she goes in and she gets a lot of exercise. We feel we’ve tried everything and need help!

We are on our fifth gsp so I don’t need to tell you what breed we feel is the best for a family companion and hunting buddy.

Mine loves to kayak but hiking isn't easy because he is constantly hunting. My Lab has a switch where if the gun isn't out, he is content to hike.

I am looking for a future service dog. I was looking into GSPs because I love the high energy and constant want to work that they have. Do you think they would be able to do service work?

I know how it feels to have a breed of dog that is very intelligent... mini schnauzers are so easy to train!! I would own a lab or a black giant schnauzer! Most likely a giant. They end up being around 85 lbs. we need a back yard for that. We are lucky to have a mini schnauzer breeder that would help us find a good breeder for our giant.

I would not own a GSP with out a wireless fence as mine had a lot of energy and he would keep him self in shape. If a bird landed in the front yard he would run there to chase it out and the same in the back yard. I had a 1 acre lot and it was his. He did get a walk daily around the Neighborhood where we always worked on Whoa and Here.

Yawa question, my my female GSP will be 15 months old in 10 days, is it normal for her to have already been through 2 heat cycles? Of course the 1st started the week Oklahomas' early teal and dove season opened and her 2nd the last month of our duck seasons, so after all her early life "training" we missed our first hunting season together, others have said that she very well may keep the same cycle until her 1st litter? Truth or fiction?
