Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2020 | Traveling across Germany, we learn how fascism rose and then fell, taking millions of people with it. Visiting actual locations - from Munich to Nürnberg to Berlin - we trace the roots of Nazism in the aftermath of World War I, when masses of angry people were enchanted by Hitler. We explore the totalitarian society Hitler built, and see the consequences: genocide and total war. Learning from Germany's fascist story, we can recognize that hateful ideology as well as the tricks of wannabe dictators in our own age. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #fascism

The "Holocaust education" was and is a psychological war against the Germans. German children have to watch Holocaust films in school or are shown in concentration camps and are told that their fathers and grandfathers were all perverse murderers, since there is no protection of minors, even children from the age of 8 are tortured in this way.

I used to lecture in travel and tourism when I lived in the UK. I ‘discovered’ Rick Steves’s programmes when I retired to the USA in 2009. They are undoubtedly the best travel programmes. Specials such as this one, Luther, Christmas, Easter etc are exceptional pieces of work - straightforward, accessible, understandable and, at the same time, entertaining ((if such a word can be applied to anything to do with fascism) especially from a tourism point of view. I highly recommend his books, too - not just the guide books, which are outstanding, but his books about travel and its benefits way beyond simple pleasure. Rick, thank you. This video I saw much earlier on your channel, nonetheless it is better to renew it from time to time. Even in XXI century we see the same things like "setting on fire in Reichstag" to undermine reputation of certain people and impose a strict laws, restricting civil rights, which otherwise nation would have never accepted. This example is not the only from Nazi experience, which is used nowadays in different countries. Seizure of power in democratic way and afterwards leading to usurpation we also can find in modern history. "If you take freedom for granted, you can lose it" Greetings from Russia!

Rick Steves, I think, does the best job I have ever seen of a traveling reporter. He makes so you can almost smell the grass, feel the temperature, taste the food y learn the language. Why bother going to Hawaii for vacation when you can turn on the remote y kick back y save a buck. Just put on a fan y put a palm tree near by y viola. Rick Steves never fail to entertain y doing it so well.

Rick Steves did a great public service and an important educational one by producing his special travel programs showing the rise of fascism. It was vital the American people see the truth in history as the years 2016-2020 progressed and the obvious parallels became obvious following the former president's open assault on our republic on January 6. Thank you, Mr. Steves.

@@WouldntULikeToKnow.: There is a difference on how historians explain the history of their very own country and how historians of other countries explain the history of this particular country. Thank you so much sir! This is a brilliant distillation of what can happen to a seemingly civilized society if fascism is allowed to take root. It must be fought before that happens! And this video should be shown in classrooms across the country as part of history curriculum. Ignorance is a prime ingredient of the fascist state.

In Germany this is taught along with the holocaust. In the U.S. our education system no longer teaches they just give tests! This will be our failure! The stupidity of our citizens in the U.S. is why fascism is talking hold in our government. If the fascists are allowed to take control, the children of today will have no control as adults. They will all live under dictator rule.

It's narrated with great passion by Neil MacGregor, Director of the Humboldt Forum in the recently rebuild Imperial Palace of Brandenburg Prussia.
