Karamba Diaby, the first African-born member of parliament in Germany, has decided to not run in the next federal election in 2025. Just weeks after receiving a death threat, the 62-year-old politician announced his departure. While he has been the target of racist attacks and threats throughout his time in office, Diaby emphasised that this wasn't the primary reason for his decision. However, in various interviews, he declared an increasingly hostile mood in the parliament and society. Diaby expressed his desire to prioritise spending more time with his family and to create space for younger politicians to take the lead.

Yeahh we definitely sadly have the struggle that the people here, especially in the east, are incredibly racist and Xenophobic... We even currently have a BY COURT "suspected" right extremist party on the RISE whose various figureheads were even fined for using NZI rhetoric, and have had secret sleazy meetings discussing the deportation of immigrants who have been living here for well for decades. It's just a damn shame what's happening.

I lived in Germany for 10 years with my children, I had to run for my life after I realised they hate blacks with passion. I almost lost my mind from pain and depression. My kids were bullied and terrorised I schools both by teachers, principals and students. Except for a very very few kind ones among them, Germans are scary to live among!!!

I have a friend who lived in Ghana his whole life, so he had never experienced racism. He had been to Europe before, but he said the first time he experienced racism was in Germany, and it was at the airport on arrival. It wasn't just one person either. An entire group of people, unrelated to each other, all moved away from him and gave him dirty looks. The west is great at PR, but when you see the reality, you realise how bogus it is for them to lecture the world.

I am a Cameroonian currently living and working in central Jutland in Denmark . if i tell you what i go through daily and at work nobody will be able to comprehend not even want to go through what i go through. The racism here is outrageous as if it was embedded into their sun-conscious minds. Can definitely agree with you. I am from the Dutch Antilles living in a little village in Holland next with the border of Germany up north. If I tell you indeed the hell I went through. I work as a kind of nurse assisting mostly elderly people at their homes, so they can stay home longer and do not need to go to an elderly home. My fellow coworkers didn’t even want to communicate with me. While in this job communication is very important or we loose lives. But If I did something wrong in their opinion I would receive threatening phone calls. If I complained about too much patients in my route sometimes I would get some more patients added to it. If I said something in the meeting, I would be cursed. And this is the top of the iceberg……You are not alone on this one. I started to pray and our beloved Father one by one By the grace of God they left…..or they are working in other routes, or they are with pension or they just left to go work in other places….I am now the senior after 14 years of just doing my work the best I can for God and that’s it. Thanks to God the Father and Jesus his Son live took a turn for the best.✝️🙏

I had the same experience. I am an Ethiopian did my PhD in Germany and stayed almost for 5 years in the beautiful Konstanz and returned back home after . I never felt discriminated. I have great German friends in which I consider them as family. My dad was also a German scholar and returned home after his scholarship in the 80's he still have good communication with his old German friends . We have a blessed life in Ethiopia and never felt discriminated in Deutschland !!!

As a Black English man, I have lived in Germany now for a few decades. I came to Germany with the British Army. After I left the Army, I decided to live and work in Germany. In NRW, where I am, the Germans, even the older ones, have not been in any way, shape or form racist. The racism in Germany is usually to be found in the former East Germany. The people there live in a different world in many ways. Till this day, I am very happy I left England, we were and still are behind the Germans in a myriad of ways.

I lived and studied in the east of Germany and I can attest to what you’ve said. Because of my experience there I almost painted the entire German racist. Then because of the racism in the East and because my mental health was really suffering , I changed universities and moved to Berlin. I would say I have the best experience with my new university lab, but I wouldn’t say Berlin is without racism too. Anyways racism in German can be very subtle, but this one time a surly woman who is a shop attendant in a shop me and my fellow African sister was trying to buy hand bags, just outright came out with it, nagging us and not giving us space to choose bags of our choices. I have also experienced just pure stinking looks out of nowhere. After my studies, I’m definitely going back to my beautiful country Namibia, and I have always said that I would not recommend anyone to study especially in East of Germany.

To complete the story, many German politicians face this kind of treatment. One white conservative politician was recently shot for saying Nazis could just leave this country if they don't like it. Our current government is threatened with all sorts of things every day. Furthermore, Diaby was also elected in one of the most racist constituencies; there are few non-Germans in that whole area. So mostly white Germans must have voted for him. He's been in office for a long time and probably has better things to do now. Long story short, there are many bad people in Germany for sure, but a lot of normal people too.

I am also wondering why we are not getting this news reports in Germany. I am a Tanzanian living in Germany and i can only advise all brothers and sisters. Let's invest our energy in building our continent. We need our brains and physical strength at home instead of contributing to regimes and systems that exploit our continent people and diaspora. We need to be in controll our own resources and narrative.
