 @xanadu8468 keep in mind that while Pre-Germanic origins from the region of today Northern Germany (spread than to the North and East etc.), Pre-Celtic culture comes from the region around Southern Germany/Austria/Switzerland! (and spread to other parts of Europe) back then. You have for such reasons also in Germany still a lot of towns/villages/cities and waters with Celtic names. But the Celtic culture also got diverse over time which means there are slightly differences depending on the region of Europe ...

I'm from the UK and Germany feels much more like home to me than France, Spain or Italy. I also love German food - much better than is generally believed - and of course, the beer and wine. The only thing I don't like is the officiousness and inflexibility in German culture, Britain is much more relaxed in this. I also detest wasps in Germany, as there are so many there in the summer and they are very aggressive. That said, Germany is a much better country in social cohesion - poor people are much treated in Germany and have enough to survive, whereas in Britain if you don't have a job life is a nightmare. The social class structure in Britain is very rigid and the richest people remain rich from one generation to the next because inheritance tax is low and can easily be avoided.

France (in German 'Frankreich') is btw. also just a Germanic by product which is why the name France is exactly the same as you have in Frankfurt/Franken Bavaria etc. ... You had the Western Roman Empire changed from inside and outside due to Germanic tribes who flood over a huge part of Europea and creates new kingdoms and empires. The Frankish Empire was a big one. It split due to Karl/Carl der Grosse (btw, that and the latinized version 'Karolus Magnus or Karoli/Caroli Magnuswas his real name, not Charles or Charlemagne). The reason was that all those Germanic dynasties still had for some time Germanic laws and habits (while also using Germanized Latin, Roman law and translations for writing). One of the laws/habbit was to split the Empire between the sons. Thats the reason why the Western part of the Frankish Empire (which later became more or less France) and a middle part - and an Eastern part (became later the Holy Roman Empire - and much later Germany) got seperated. While this habit made to a certain degree being a tribe (thats how different new family clans were born) it made not really sense for an Empire (because this would mean it gets more and more fragmented over time). Thats why this habit changed over time. If you listen to French then you listen to a Germanized Vulgar Latin and a bit Celtic/Gaul (btw., Pre-Cetic culture came from Southern Germany/Austria region). 10-15% of French has still Germanic origins - and this influence is also the reason why French sounds different (and sexy) to other Romance languages - thanks to the old Frankish dialect. But anyway, back then you had no countries as such but different connected dynasties and spheres of influences (the 100 years war was not really between France and England but between different dynasties which were anyway in both regions - and also associated and connected dynasties from 'Germany' were part of that. This was even more clear if one just focus on the real names of the people - which were all Germanic. Means: no Louis but Ludwig. No Charles but Karl/Carl (just like you still have today). No 'William' but 'Wilhelm', no Henry but Heinrich/Hendrick etc. - only names like Philipp are from Greek influences ... apart from that: also interesting how slowly over time the naming scheme changed (partly slightly different) to a naming scheme we have today: first name and 'family name/surname' or a middle name in between, often the origin was just a name with an additional description like Heinrich von der Muehle = Heinrich Mueller = Henry Miller, or Philipp der Dicke (the thick one) = Philipp Dick. Some have older Germanic origins, especially if Northern Germanic like Ericson (son of Eric) or Johnson (son of John) or Heinrichson (son of Heinrich) - you get the idea ...

From my experience living a long time in both countries. Germany is good if you want to live the life that their system is designed for which is: Get married, have kids, rent a flat for 20 years and never move or change jobs and live a stable and quiet life. The UK is good if you want a more flexible and free lifestyle because the UK is much less bureaucratic and you can design your life the way you want without being at a disadvantage. Both good but it depends on your personality

Germany is my favourite country in the world (not only because of Bavaria btw) Germany has more to offer than just Bavaria and even within Bavaria there’s more to see than „just“ Munich and the alps. I prefer lower mountain ranges like the Schwarzwald, Harz, Taunus, Sächsische Schweiz,… also I love the river valleys of the Mosel, Rhein, Nahe, Neckar, Main, Saale, Elbe, Oder,… and then the Lüneburger Heide, the Wattenmeer, Helgoland, Sylt and of course the Baltic Sea with Rügen ❤, Usedom … then all the lakes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg and the Spreewald. All the palaces AND castles, the medieval towns with half-timbered houses, the churches, the brick buildings in the north, the baroque houses, the classicist architecture in Brandenburg,… I LOVE GERMANY ❤❤❤

This is in the days *PRE* sat navs. On the way there he asked me what time we would arrived. Surprised at the randomness of the question & still being a few mile off I said - "I don't know? 20 -30 minutes?" I could see he was visibly uncomfortable with this & after about 2 minutes further travel said - "No. Can you tell me *EXACTLY* when we will arrive!" *GREAT* people though - Much love to our immense German cousins from the UK!

England is far too americanised and still too much backward in terms of their history (Empire - exceptionalism) to ever be truly very well meaning towards any of the continental (EU) countries, especially Germany, which they view, in general, as their fiercest rival. England’s getting on very well with any of the EU countries will always be rather connected to a fake politeness and fake well meaning (Brexit made that very clear - brought the worst out of the English). The continent and any of its European countries can simply never be compared to England, - though maybe a little bit more to Scotland, Wales, Northern Island perhaps, but certainly not to England. England is more like Feudalism mixed with Yankee life style and system (more unregulated capitalism), which I would not like to see and experience on the continent. But of course, having said that, there are also plenty of English people who really like Germany, it’s people, as well as other continental countries, its people ( and visa versa , - causes unease, dislikes and tensions on both sides). What a shame though, wished we really could get on with each other. But that would probably mean that the continentals have to adopt part of US and part of English system. I can only pray this never happens.

@pup1008
@pup1008 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ben_Dover_911 I'm not so sure about that..... I think the very first people to set foot in what was to become the UK came from the region of what is Russia today. But then I think what were to become the Russians came from Viking blood - "Russo" means red haired as a lot of Scandinavians were. After that you had people moving up from the Celtic tribes of Northern & central France. The Romans didn't really interact or interbreed with us, I think we were considered below them. The Vikings certainly did a *LOT* of interbreeding, most of it forced but there was a lot of legitimate relationships too . After that I would say the German Anglo Saxons made up the bulk of migrates to the UK. I don't think the Normans had much genetic impact, only a dominant force in relation to rule.

@@pup1008 I dont even care for this "culture" except some great writers and English literature. But I prefer German philosophers . They were the best after renaissance and the connection between German and Greek philosophy is bigger . Also classical music , painters etc. In ww2 England involved Greece in the war ... I would like Greece to be neutral or in Germany s side.

Racist in what way...? Are you confusing racism with sectarianism perhaps? A lot of NI people are more direct than some other British but racism isn’t something i would really associate with them.

@@michaeljose8122 Don't get me wrong man , i've been working there for six years and most of them are very unwelcome with emigrants especially after the brexit vote , but yes you can find good lads as well.
