Probably your best video! It takes confidence to expose your own skiing the way you did and hats off to Geri for his eye and commentary. Also think it's a great idea for your top guys analyzing each other's skiing.

Thanks for the comment Sam. My ego is surprisingly not as big as people might think 😂. I am glad you liked it.

Definitely the best video of this series. Always enjoy looking at higher level skiers. Definitely want to watch Gerri’s skiing and analyse it!

Great video and MA. We need to see more of these. Geri's skiing is truly inspiring and exciting. His short curve turns are mind blowing. Please tell him to post more of his skiing to KZfaq.

I see you’re up to number 7 in this series. Loving it so far. Great lessons for any level. Having my son who’s not skied yet watch these so he can implant a visual of correct positioning to aspire to.

Appreciate exposing yourself to constructive instruction and finding out how late you came to skiing. Would not have known. ThIs also gives people a chance to know how good the instructors are, should anyone be interested in considering taking your clinics.

Agree with both of you. Left foot is the stronger due to better separation. Left footer you could be better separated and you use your muscle 💪 to finish the turn causing moving to inside and and pinch of rotation. Ski more powerplow and snow plow on steeper terrain to maintain separation on weak side.

Very interesting. Looking forward to Paul's comments on Geri's skiing. And please do this sort of MA on the whole instructing team.👍

Making a basic medium radius "ski school" turn is always difficult. The reason is that they aren't dynamic enough to really make a strong reverse camber. When Paul was was more dynamic the skis were bent and then released in a linear manner, the turn flowed. An analogy is driving a car where the driver moves the steering inward until the apex is reached and then the steering wheel moves back to the neutral position. In skiing the neutral position is the edge lock or transition between turns. In driving if the turn is made too fast then there is a skid where the driver tries to recover from without crashing. In race skiing a "J" turn is sometimes made to get a large part of the turn in the fall line before making a harsh movement at the bottom of the turn where the forces for skidding are the greatest. This might work well for slalom but not so much for a GS turn where many times a smooth "S" turn is the fastest. Making that perfect ski school parallel turn without getting into a contrived static position is always difficult. It requires patience without looking static. Most of Paul's students make the quick turn and subsequent long edge lock, which they think is a medium radius turn. I know Paul doesn't jam his turns like his students do, (i.e. he isn't afraid of the fall line). For an expert skier like Paul, the first third of the turn is the difficult to master. Mikaela Shiffrin is the best at being early but making it smooth. After skiing for many decades I can say that elusive first part of the turn is like what a U.S. Supreme Court Justice defined as pornography. He said, "I don't know what is pornography is, but I know it when I see it." For me I can't define that perfect first third of a turn, but I know it when I see it.

Thanks for the detailed comment. Lots of thought put behind what you are talking about. Nice analogies too.

I'd love to see you and Geri dive intro differences between the "Austrian" way of skiing compared to "Asian" (mainly Japan & Korea). Geri's style is heavily influenced by the latter, which especially outside of Asia, makes him quite a sight (also in Asia of course, however, there are hundreds/thousands of skiers that have a comparable style there taking part in technical competitions).

Great video; getting better and better quality. I'm glad I could see the asymmetry before Geri :D but I thought the piste was slanted (but I guess not?). To clarify one thing: you meant power vs balance? I.e. using power to stabilize instead of being in perfect balance and not "fighting" it that much? Or?
@SIAAustria

Yes something on those lines. We will clarify further.

@Geri - "It's not about the age..." YAY! 🙂 @Paul - around 2:27 you said, "One of the things I was trying to avoid was the strong alpine position." What did you mean by that? @Both - yes, let's continue with commentary about the trainers in addition to the students. There's plenty to learn from both ends of the spectrum.

With your knee injury do you ever use a brace of any kind? Or do you think it’s totally too restrictive. I’m an older skier 75, also a personal trainer in very good condition. I have arthritis in knee and a meniscus issue. I use a Shock Doctor 875 brace that allows me to ski and workout fairly aggressively. I’m getting better at skiing especially long turns since using CARV the last couple of years and get to ski about 40+ times per season. Hoping to drop my hip a little more this year. Your instruction and videos are great. I love them. Thanks

Thanks Daniel! I would like to talk about this one a little more on a Podcast and explain in some things as the short answer is "no" I do not use any type of knee support but I must explain why in more depth. Let's talk about it!

I would love to hear about why and how you can ski aggressively and not be more vulnerable to injury without a brace/support of any kind. Getting ready for ski season in Maine USA. I look foreword to hearing and learning more.
