Becoming a Buddhist monk or nun is truly a meaningful and worthwhile way to spend your life, and to be of benefit to others. It is so fortunate that the monastic tradition started by the Buddha is still alive today, thanks to the devotion, dedication and efforts of many thousands of monks and nuns in Asia over the last 2500 years. Although there is great benefit in becoming ordained, the life of a Buddhist monk or nun also carries a deep responsibility for oneself and for others. Geshe Tenzin Losel (Graham Woodhouse) explains in greater details how to prepare oneself for ordination.

this is Mike from Iran, I am 32 and have been tired of being in this mechanical life where everyone is trying to deceive others, I have had some studies around spirituality and have been practicing to be good and do nothing but loving other creations, I have a feeling that my journey now demands a time being away from all these poisons big cities under a mentorship of a master, I believe we are here just to increase our conciseness frequency and nothing else and all these money and luxury life is nothing, so would you please help me find my way of finding what's the next step for me

If the aspirant is from a developed country and wants to ordain in India or Thailand it's also necessary to be financially sustainable for about five years until fully integrated in that social structure.

I love your videos. Hello sir, I am a researcher on Buddhism in Bihar. Don't you want to know and see where the first Tibetan Sangaram was opened solely for foreigners. This is north of Patna on the northern banks of the Ganges. Xuan Zangs lovely book led me to the Sangaram. According to him three Sramanas from across the SNOWY MOUNTAINS (From the area around 'Taro Co' lake in northern Tibet) crossed over to India on a pilgrimage to holy Buddhist sites. Indians fail to understand who they are and no one gives them food and shelter and sometimes beat them up. They were lying by the side of the road dying when the King rode up. He inquired about them and when they told him their story, the King realised a Sangaram was needed for foreigners only where Indians won't be allowed. So this can be regarded as the first Tibetan Sangaram in India. Those days Indians had pierced ears because they wore ear rings. Foreigners had unpierced ears so this Sangaram was for unpierced ears. Those days Indians didn't know about Tibet so this Sangaram was for unpierced years, meaning foreigners. Today that Sangaram is a village and that King is the local village deity. This story proves that Buddhism went to Tibet prior to Xuan Zangs epic journey to India. So Tibetans will have to study how and when Buddhism went to Tibet. Because Xuan Zang seems to infer that Buddhism went to Tibet much earlier than what the great masters claim today.

@@trishala731 if your reason to become a nun is not to study the dharmma, but to escape from the world because you feel you have failed , this is not a good reason and is actually disrespectful to those monks and nuns who have done such amazing things with their lives by becoming ordained. You get ordained in order to immerse yourself in the teachings , not because you will somehow not get hurt- trust me, living in a monastery as an ordained person does not make life easier and does not guarantee you will be spared from negative things happening to you. In addition, you decide if you get hurt and what hurts you.. your life is the result of your karma, instead of feeling hurt, think about it.

@@veskovarbanov that is the end goal..to learn how to not get affected by negative things So you say if someone cheats on me, thats because of my karma? I don't believe it, i have never cheated anyone in my life..still if it happens with me, how can you say it's a result of my karma?
