I got to hear Geshelli’s upcoming new integrated amp at the AXPONA show this morning. Absolutely fantastic sounding with Mofi Sourcepoint speakers. First time experiencing Geshelli equipment. Thoroughly impressed. It may be my next amp.

@@crazyprayingmantis5596 They are estimating $1500-2000. Not final yet. Retro silver faceplate with VU meters. The case behind the faceplate is solid hand-carved wood with dovetail joinery. Balanced, old school pre-out/main-in loop design, built in EQ, all analog. Early orders will get a choice of wood and design for the carving.

I know a lot of people will take issue with a $500 entry-level product. But think about it in 1975. My dad bought a Kenwood quad receiver for $500. That’s like over $2000 today.

All depends on how well it performs to those at its price point as well as those higher priced. I have an Aune x8 with a Sparkos op amp and that combo would cost around $400 give or take. But its performance matches or exceeds other dacs at 2X the price.

That new AKM DAC sounds interesting, I'm sure Geshelli will do a good job with it. The Emotiva pre / DAC combo sounds interesting too and is something I'd be interested in if Emotiva would make better looking gear and ditch those awful blue LEDs.

So interesting question... I get that the new RMC-1+ unit will have use a TI chip because of the AKM chip shortage, but what if you're upgrading a current RMC-1? Are they just sending you a new unit altogether or putting new boards into the old unit? I would much prefer to keep the AKM chip in my current RMC-1, and it's really not cool that you'd have to choose between upgrading the HDMI + wi-fi and keeping the superior DAC chip...

Topping E70 Velvet also has that AKM 4499ex - I don't know what makes this one " first " ? and totally .. Emotiva was out in full force all weekend. Great stuff in either case! =) ( no pun )

Randy is entertaining but his non stop gushing over Geshelli, Emotiva and Schitt is over the top. I suggested he review the Topping E70 Velvet about a month ago. Of course he's aware that Geshelli 's AKM 4499ex isn't a first but he'll overlook it if it means he can pump Geno's tires one more time..

Topping, SMSL, Gustard, & perhaps some other Chinese manufacturershave already released models with the new independent digital analog architecture AK4499EX+AK4191 chips. There's even some brands getting a bit excessive, SMSL has a model that has dual AK4499EX chips for $959, Gustard has a dual AK4499EX network streamer for $1599, & the most excessive and stupid of all is the Astell&Kern SP3000 DAP which features dual AK4191, quad AK4499EX chips. So a $4,000 portable audio solution.

I was just at Axpona this morning and listened to the J2 AKM, E2 amp, and a pair of Grado SR325 headphones and was blown away. The resolution and sound was awesome. I might hold off ordering the J2 until the new 4499 DAC is available….it’s a dilemma.

personally, i'm most interested in that 8k upgrade board stuff being put into the MR1... that's the ticket. I wonder if the on screen GUI behaves better with the upgraded raspberry Pi smarts? i guess it doesn't reallllly matter if you can just connect to a webpage. Sounds like emotiva really are addressing some gripes here

Hi Neil, I've a J2S and Sparkos dual 2590 w/adapter coming soon. I understand the fit is very tight and might take some creativity to install. Any tips you could share? Thanks!

@@kenlyon8285 Hi Ken, the riser allows it to tilt ever so slightly, and that's the only "trick". The edge of the Sparkos adapter rests against the back of the RCA jacks. There's no chance of electrical contact. You can put a bit of hot glue on afterward to tack it in place, if you want to. This is an amazing sounding DAC, especially with a linear power supply.

As soon as I learned about the J2S, I had to place my order. Expecting it to arrive in a few days. So now it appears I'll be getting a third Geshelli DAC when this 4499 is ready. Good fun. k

Looks like your patience has been rewarded. The 4499 AKM is here! Just placed my order for the J2S with the Sparkos Op-Amps, and ironically, the following day Passion for Sound released his review of the 4499 AKM J2S with and without the Sparkos op-amps! Sherri was very helpful and allowed me to change my order from the 4493 to the 4499 version. Can't wait. Passion for Sound was very impressed which is saying something. Stay tuned.

I went in. Granted I'm a novice but it absolutely blew me away. Sounded vary similar to the Magnepans. Expensive stuff but the guy talked me through the process of ordering and DIYing a kit for the future.

Seeing the listening rooms ( hotel rooms) for the gear makes me think those spaces are probably closer to our homes acoustically, than say a nicely "treated" room at retail hifi stores. Would you agree with this sentiment Randy (and CAM subscribers)?

Ross, you know there are other dac designs like that where they have an r2r configuration with active resistances through a chip but not passive and a hybrid architecture with the delta sigma .. I don’t know the details, but I remember reading about it a long time ago.

@@shipsahoy1793 no I didn't. Only knew about delta-sigma and R2R as being separate architectures. I think one brand or more does R2R on a chip (is Schiit's "multibit" a chip based R2R?) but I can't remember the brand off the top of my head. Will be interesting to see (and hear) what these hybrid or dual chips can offer. All the KZfaqr reviewers always rave about how a R2R has "more natural tonality and a better and deeper soundstage" than delta-sigma chip based DACs, so maybe these can be a move in the right direction. We'll see.

@@rosswarren436 I don’t know, the r2r with passive resistances is probably a purist mentality, but the resistance tolerances are super critical on that. You’ll probably have people trashing the active resistances saying that it’s not as warm or natural or whatever, if I was going to guess, but as I said, I could be completely wrong, because I have no idea lol

Well, they have had their flagship CXN v2 out for a long time. This is their first entry into more "affordable" level streaming gear, competing with WiiM, NAD, and Bluesound. Competition is good. Glad it has Tidal Connect. Now, if more streamers would incorporate Deezer Connect...

Would like to know how their internal DACs and sound quality compare plus whether some output to digital better (less jitter) based on their internal clocks - if that is audible by mere mortals.

Glad you are not fixated on loudspeakers. I recently discovered that almost all of the KZfaqrs that cover loudspeakers 100% are made of wax. Granted they look incredibly lifelike but you look closely you will see that their lips don’t move. Also, sometimes they will start to melt if their equipment overheats. 🫠
