Happy to see it. Coming from upstate, It was always frustrating switching from Grand Central to Penn Station to get to Long Island.

It's crazy how this was below everyone's feet for the past decade and not many people knew about it, NYC's underground is so vast I wonder what else is hidden below the city

What should be mentioned is that the project really started 60 years ago. The LIRR trains are entering Manhattan using the dormant lower level of a rail tunnel built in the 60’s. The upper level of the tunnel has been serving NYC subways since the late 80’s.

I remember for weeks after 9/11, tanks at the entrances and military with long guns stationed all over the sidewalks not sure if that place would be the next target. What a difference twenty+ years make. Beautiful

So happy to see this. They left the iconic structure and spectacular main hall at the top but saw there was a huge opportunity below, replicating what so many great mass transit stations in Asia and other parts of the world have done.

between this and the Moynihan station at Penn, the LIRR and Amtrack have gotten serious upgrades. I can only hope they start focusing on Penn more and NJ transit cause that is still a mess and half of NYC commuters still come from across the pond

Love how you can take Metro North from Poughkeepsie directly to an LIRR train without worrying about how to get to Penn Station.

I remember as a little kid watching an episode of "Extreme Engineering" on Discovery channel in 2003 covering the construction of the East Side Access and the new terminal. When I get the chance to visit New York City, this is definitely one of the destinations I'll check out.

As a tourist, I'm still awed at the incredible achievement that is Manhattan... It's stunning. Yes there are obvious issues with safety and such, but i feel like sometimes people seem to forget how absolutely massive NYC is. Every time i leave, i immediately want to go back. Americans should be proud to have such a monument to human perseverance.

The energy of the MTA CEO about improving transit is exquisite. Also I love the fact the West Hempstead, Far Rockaway, Hempstead, and Long Beach Branches nor the existence of Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn aren't even acknowledged on the LIRR map at
