I never gave much thought if any to the idea that all food plots don’t need to be table top flat..Your unconventional ideas make food plotting less time consuming and more affordable. Thanks for another eye opener video.

Hey, just wanted to say that your rain video has saved me big time. I used to have to watch radar all through the day to see if rain passed over my property. I was on the weather apps constantly. Now I check my app once a day and know what fields got rain and how much. I love it. Also, must be getting about time for some update videos on your test plots and videos like you soybean/pea test.

I know several counties here in Arkansas rent these out! Don't pull fertilizer buggy with 1/2 ton truck or smaller. 3/4 ton and larger can pull them but go 45mph max and take plenty of room to stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it! Yes sir, safety is key…I go no more than 30 mph when pulling a fertilizer Buggy or any piece of farm equipment, and that’s only on wide open good roads. About 10-15mph on back roads. Thanks

Wes, I love your content. When using a no till, how do you plant clover seeds with winter grains? I've heard that pulling the small seed box tubes and just letting the small seed tubes bounce around works well. Any experience with this?
@DIYfoodplotpro
@DIYfoodplotpro 11 ай бұрын
Chris, thanks for watching and commenting, glad to have you on the channel! I don’t have much experience with this question to be honest, I mostly use tillage and or broadcast on top of the ground. The small seed boxes should be used with clover and the large seed attachment for things like oats, wheat, and cereal rye. Wished I could help you more, but I just don’t run a drill very much at all. I Hope to in the future! Thanks
@BrettBaker-uk4te
@BrettBaker-uk4te 11 ай бұрын
Best to use the boxes as intended. You'll be able to use less seed than if broadcasting it.

Great advice. However, What does a guy do that only has a tractor with 25 hp or less?
@DIYfoodplotpro
@DIYfoodplotpro 7 ай бұрын
Well that fella really has 2 options, either do conventional till on his plots, or buy one of the small drills. There are several old tractors that are 40-50 horsepower that can be bought fairly cheap, that would have no trouble pulling this drill in the video. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Farm co-ops have fertilizer and lime buggies for rent also, but they dont suggest pulling one loaded with a smaller size truck like my Nissan Froniter. So just be sure towing or pulling a no till drill or buggy to your plot is done safely.

Clark thanks for watching and commenting! My local co-op had fertilizer buggy’s but I’ve never seen a ag lime spreader. Yes sir, safety is key, pulling lots of weight back there, slow go for sure. Thanks

I am not familiar with the no till drill but do have access to one. How do you set seed depth for the larger seeds versus the smaller seeds? Can you plant both large and small see at the same time? For example oats and clover, or soybeans and clover? Thanks for your video and time. I
@DIYfoodplotpro
@DIYfoodplotpro Жыл бұрын
Jack thanks for watching and commenting, yes you can plant them at the same time, there will be 2 separate seed boxes on the drill, one for large seed one for small seed. Seed depth should be the same when planting both.
@carrollsanders9376
@carrollsanders9376 Жыл бұрын
@@DIYfoodplotpro the small seeds just fall on the ground and the closing wheel runs over them. If you sow annual clovers pull the tubes off the small seed box and let them flow out randomly, it will help keep out weeds.

The drill that my county has is much larger. They require a 100hp minimum. I wish I could find someone with a smaller drill in my area to plant for me, but I will have to find a disk instead.

Wow I’m surprised at, most folks who don’t have a drill aren’t going to have a 100 horsepower tractor either. Do you mind me asking what state that is in?

@@DIYfoodplotpro this is in North Texas, Fannin County. It seems they are aiming primarily at the ag industry and not too focused on the smaller crowd. Makes sense to narrow your use case with limited funds, but it would be nice if they picked up a Genesis or similarly sized Great Plains for the smaller operations and/or food plotters.
@Isaacmantx

Also, they have raised the drop off fee to $150 minimum now… 😭 pretty hard when working with 1 or 2 acres of food plots!

Yeah that would be nice to have a big one and a smaller one. Both of the ones my county has are the smaller ones. It’s super hard to justify buying a drill for food plots only, I plant a bunch of acres and still can’t justify it…though I sure hope I can one day! Haha Thanks for watching and commenting!

Roy, thanks for watching and commenting, the answer is no. This is exactly what these programs were designed for. Commercial farms are largely going to have there own equipment so they can get over acres faster. These can be used by anyone, especially food plotters! Thanks

@@DIYfoodplotpro The other option is to by an old bean drill and to cut it down, you can usually find an old 20ft bean drill in good shape for $2000, you cut it down in half and make 2 ten foot drills. Keep one sell one. You can even on rare occasions find 14 foot used notill drills and make two 7footers. But that takes work.
