The EVF is a wonderful feature of your Nikon Z mirrorless camera. It can show you a preview of exactly how your photo will look including depth of field. But what many people do not realize is, that the EVF only shows depth of field until a certain F stop, and it is lower than you may think! Check out the video and learn my friends, learn!

Big Like and thank you. Just got a Z 6ii for an early Xmas present and it is my first Mirrorless experience. Still feeling my way around and spend half my time trying to find things in the menus or trying to understand things I have never seen. This is very informative. I appreciate your factual presentation and useful training subjects. Happy to have subscribed. P.S., you may not realize it, but when you say "nice to see your smiling face again", I am one of the ones who smiles back at you. 8-)

Hey man, great stuff and very helpful, I'm a Z50 owner and was hoping you might be able to help. I have my preview set to the record button just like you do, great, no problems except that it also engages AE-L AF-L lock when pressed. I do have back button focus setup but don't know if this is by design. It's actually good to be able to combine those, like a 2 for 1 button. Thanks in advance!

I assume for landscape photography you could use depth of field view to check whether foreground, mid ground and background are in focus?
@ShutterSpeak
@ShutterSpeak 2 жыл бұрын
Yes- this would apply to landscapes, macro, and even portraits if you are looking for a sharp background.

Good to know the workaround… Hope Nikon takes this limitation off through firmwire if possible.
@ShutterSpeak
@ShutterSpeak 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it is a firmware issue. It has to do with the amount of light being picked up by the sensor. AS I understand it there isn't enough light above 5.6.

Hey Joe! Happy holidays big brother! I still think you are watching me on my web cam. I’m 87 years old and been shooting Nikon for over 50 years. I got lenses older then you! All this technology is a bit confusing, my great godson helps me with my computer and without his help I wouldn’t know how to turn on this complicated computer. I’m used to the days where film was like ammunition and you conserved your film for something important. Now with there gosh darn digital cameras people just take pictures of everything and anything as they don’t value there shots. I think a good exercise for everyone would be to go out and limit yourself to 24 or 34 pictures that way each shot becomes more important than you think about what you want to shoot rather than just shooting everything. But what do I know,!
@ShutterSpeak
@ShutterSpeak 2 жыл бұрын
I remember those days of 24 or 36 shots very well. But you've got to keep up or get run over, right? Thanks for saying hi!

How would this work with manual (AI, AI-S etc) lenses? Would it preview correctly as one stops down the lens?

It should work exactly the same provided the camera knows what the f/stop is the lens is at.
