Jocko Willink
Jocko Willink is a decorated retired Navy SEAL officer, author of the book Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win, and co-founder of Echelon Front, where he is a leadership instructor, speaker, and executive coach. Jocko spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy SEAL Teams, starting as an enlisted SEAL and rising through the ranks to become a SEAL officer.
During his career, Jocko was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and numerous other personal and unit awards. In 2010, Jocko retired from the Navy and launched Echelon Front with Leif Babin where he teaches the leadership principles he learned on the battlefield to help others lead and win.

Jocko has inspired me to make positive changes in my life. I quit drinking and started working out more. I’m 9 months without alcohol and I’ve started to lose weight 💪 if you’re reading this, please don’t give up on your dreams. You just need a nudge in the right direction 🙏

Congratulations on the alcohol victory. I've also had that goal I've improved but still stumble. I had some recent hardships which is when it became a big problem but thankfully coming out of that except for the drinking. When I'm sober I have so much energy and clarity everything unfortunately alcohol is all around us kudos to you hope to join you at the sobriety mountain soon.

I’m proud of you. How is your conscience? Clear? I am on week two of no alcohol. It’s hard to get after it when single and a father. But girls don’t want a overweight man. Just like I don’t want a overweight and lazy girl. It might be a Tate thing to say, but everyone thinks it….some just settle.

BUT it took me a full TEN YEARS of, "Stumbling (relapsing," before I was able to totally quit. Relapsing is part of the process. You got this, brother!

Hey Jocko, great work. I a the Vietnam era Marine who drove you from Newark airport in New Jersey to the Hyatt Regency in Princeton. I really enjoyed our conversation except for the part when you told me I could have enlisted to go directly into the SEALs. I was a US Naval Sea Cadet while in high school and they never told us that. That pisses me off because I love the water, being wet and I love the water. I know I would have made a great SEAL and I don’t get cold in the water no matter how cold it is. My whole martial arts school wanted to get out of a cold lake’s water in upper NewYork, because it was cold and they were shivering. Not me. I loved it. I am not a quitter no matter what. My senior drill instructor got pissed off at us and said he was going to exercise us until he got tired and had us going for hours. My thought were, well he can only PT us until I pass out or die. Never quit. Enough said. I admire your work and would have loved to have served under someone like you. Unfortunately, with Vietnam ending, there was a mass exodus going on and not many like you stayed around.

In the end, what holds us back are our fears. For a lot of people, the idea of their mortality is terrifying. Even if you have religious or spiritual beliefs. *Dont plan for it. Don’t talk about it. @@Bleach420 Nope. I accepted reality for where I'm at, and focused on the goal. It was a good idea, but I have some steps to finish and experience to gain to make it a reality. I'm learning from the best people at a job that benefits my end goals, and helps me better the skills necessary to make it all come true. It's not an easy dream, but it'll be successful and the cornerstone of the market. I know it won't be done either, because I know my competition inside and out from years of research. I don't want a half success, and I want to be sure I structure it right to protect the success I'll create from takeovers, etc with the business structure I'll be choosing. You can't rush success or greatness, and I'm building a solid foundation first.

Listening to the wisdom and experience of those before you is invaluable. To ignore their message or knowledge is a huge mistake. History is “his story” and many details are omitted in books and manuals. My grandpa had a seventh grade education but was the smartest man I have ever known. RIP paw paw.

At first when I listen to Jocko it makes me feel like an enormous pansy. I've never been in combat, I don't know how to fight, largest thing I've ever killed is a turkey... and I realize this guy would tear my head off. But then I think, well I'm glad he's on my team. Comforting knowing guys like this are the ones fighting for the United States.

I worked as a chef for years. Jacko's talk on modulating the intensity hits home. As a chef, I always tailored my motivational style to the individual. Some respond to a heavy hand ( USMC DI ) some to a Dr Phil. As a leader, it's up to you to sort out how to motivate your line cooks .

Nah it's perspective. Goggins went from insanely overweight and obese to survive 3 hellweeks in BUDS whereas Jocko was probably already fit, athletic and ready for the program. Goggins had to dig deeper into his mind whereas for Jocko it was just another tough army training exercise.
