Having trouble getting Dolby Atmos or DTS to work with your TV and Sound bar or Receiver? Not any more...
I tested the OREI HDA-939 using an XBOX Series X with:
- A TV that doesn't support Atmos or DTS
- AV Receiver / Sound bar
- TV that supports Freesync VRR but not DTS
If you have a TV or monitor that doesn't support Atmos or DTS and your sound bar or receiver does, this is your solution.

This extractor provides digital audio including Atmos and DTS over HDMI eARC for your sound bar or AV receiver when your TV doesn't have eARC or support passthrough. It also provides optical and coaxial digital audio output and stereo analog output.

My soundbar supports Dolby Atmos but not DTS decoding. Am I still able to get DTS?

Unfortunately no, this extractor is meant for cases where the TV does not support ATMOS, DTS, or even both, but your soundbar supports at least one of the two formats. The extractor allows DTS or ATOMS to be sent to the soundbar in cases where the TV will not forward the stream.

This is for audio only. It supports Dolby Vision pass-through but does not add it to TVs not supporting DV.

@@askdrtk Will this thing passthru audio via the hdmi out to an e-arc soundbar, having 7.1 atmos, while also having an 5.1 stream via the optical out for on a receiver. Working both at the same time hdmi and optical ?

Hello, I'm interested in using this device to connect from my AV Receiver to Television, and split the eARC output to my soundbar. Have you tested toggling the inputs from a receiver to see if the hdmi handshake continues to work? Thank you.

Thank you very much @askdrtk for posting this! I purchased a Bose 900 Soundbar and of course my TV only has an ARC port and does not pass Atmos to the soundbar's eARC input. I DID purchase recently the HDA-931 model extractor which I believe in spirit is meant for the same use case, but I am experiencing some stuttering and audio artifacts when sources that try to pass through a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal to the soundbar. I am working with OREI tech support as well through a support case, but wondering if you have experienced something similar with this model? Also, do you have to select on the unit between 2.1ch, 5.1ch, or 7.1ch? Or does the device do that all on it's own? Appreciate your help and info in putting together this video!

Glad to help out! I haven’t tested the 931, but I can tell you I have had no issues with the ATMOS or DTS on either my soundbar or receiver with the 939. You can manually set the EDID for channel count, which will be required in some configurations, but I have found the default mode to work reliably…plug and play. I will say that HDMI cables are notoriously unreliable when you start getting into higher resolution and refresh rates. Even when they are spec’d correctly, I have found many video and audio glitches to disappear after swapping out the cables. If you haven’t already this might be worth trying.

@@askdrtk thank you. I am using the cable that came with the soundbar for example and I was suspecting if I should make sure all the cables are rated at the right bandwidth. I may look to replace cables prior to declaring the issue due to something else. Hoping this won't be too expensive as I know certain cables can be $$$

I have bose 650 and projector so I want to add a 2nd atmos sound bar so can I use this to have 2 outputs 1 to bose 650 for 5.1 and 2nd to spundbar 7.1 to play sound simultaneous without any issues

Hi again, i just bought the device but it doesn't give me those options with all the audio formats, the device is HDA-934 can you help me how to connect it i have Samsung tv, serie 6 and vizio soundbar with subwofer dolby atmos so if you can help me please. Thank you

Question: my tv supports atmos but only has 1 arc port.(the tv is the reciever).would i use the arc as the output to the orei? Now i have a samsung 990b sound bar ( it has a earc input) that is presently taking the arc out put from the tv.do i need to run another hdmi cable from the orei back to the tv?.aparently the audio from a standard arc output is not atmos but some kind of hybrid compressed signal.and will i hear a major difference for the money? Thanx much,good vid.( why would my samsung tv support atmos but not have earc? )couple years old but not a dinosaur yet.

Arc can do atmos but the compressed version same goes for dts over hdmi arc it can't to do dts:x which is uncompressed/ higher quality

Why does DTSX not work with your setup? I was looking at this device to get access to DTSX. My TV doesn't support DTS. My receiver supports DTSX.

hello sir i have dolby atmos soundbar only one hdmi earc output...my tv dose not support dolby atmos..but hdmi arc port available my tv...if i buy this device that can i hear dolby atmos audio in my soundbar...

Yes, this is one of the main use cases for this device (ATMOS when TV doesn't support it). You would connect your TV to the HDMI TV output on the extractor and your soundbar to HDMI Audio output, also on the extractor, to play ATMOS on your soundbar.

This will not work because this doesn’t have hdmi EARC out. It only has hdmi out

Yes, this is meant for TVs that do not support eARC or have eARC but will not passthrough ATMOS or DTS in cases where a soundbar is to be used for ATMOS/DTS. TVs and soundbars with eARC and ATMOS/DTS support do not require an extractor. For TVs not supporting eARC or that have eARC but not ATMOS or DTS passthrough, from the extractor connect HDMI out to TV for video and connect the "audio out" HDMI to the soundbar for ATMOS/DTS. This eliminates the need for eARC and/or ATMOS/DTS support on the TV. (same as the config I used in the demo except I used an AV receiver for audio instead of a soundbar)

I don’t have a Bose, but it works with both my Sony Soundbar and Denon receiver(Atmos and DTS on both). Source connected to HDMI in, TV to output 1, and Soundbar to output 2.

Hello sir new subscriber here,do i need an external player like xbox,or bluray player for me to have a loseless atmos?i have the complete sonos arc surround system.Can i obtain loseless atmos if i only use the tv apps like netflix if i use this?thank you

Hello and Welcome! You would need an external player as this device does not receive audio from your tv. The purpose of this extractor is to provide lossless audio in applications where your tv will not pass the lossless audio from external sources back to your sound system and so instead the extractor sends the audio from external sources to you sound system. Glad to help out. Yes, with an external device such as a PS5, Apple TV, etc. you will be able to play all available audio modes that are supported by your Sonos surround system as long as the content itself includes those audio modes.

I don't understand why you have this device when you have a receiver that produces Atmos. Now I have a TV that doesn't support Atmos and I've got a Sonos Arc I wanted to know if that'll work directly and your video is not showing me that

I used the receiver as the audio device (in place of a soundbar) for demo only with a TV that does not support ATMOS. This works the same when using a TV not supporting eARC (ATMOS/DTS X) with a soundbar that does (your application). Actually, the extractor is most useful in situations like yours when you have a TV that doesn't support eARC and / or a soundbar that doesn't pass HDMI video out to a TV. (The HDA-939 is specifically made for your setup.) You would connect the source to the extractor, HDMI input, then the extractor HDMI video output to your TV, and finally the extractor HDMI audio output to your Sonos Arc (the same as in my video except you connect the Arc where I connected my receiver). As in my demo, you will have ATMOS (as well as all other modes supported on the ARC) available. I hope this helps out!
