The histogram can be found on lots of drones and cameras, but do you know how to read one? This info can be used for many different times of cameras as well, not just DJI drones.

Awesome! I just purchased my first pro consumer camera, the Sony A6000! Since my internet is really bad bc I live in the country I don't need a 4K camera right now! You know I already have the DJI Mavic Pro! Is the Katana really worth the money? Thanks again for all your help and knowledge! Happy Histograming lol

I appreciate your end comments more than anything. I knew what the histogram did for the most part but understanding the practicality of it (relying on data rather than what looks "good" to our eyes) really put it into perspective. Thanks!

Thanks a lot Ed! For people without photography knowledge this helps a lot! I really love the way you explain things. And it is fun to watch some crazy videos now and then.. like the rescue mission for the lightning cable of the mavic. Its wonderful you always be yourself and don't want to compare with other youtubers. I think thats the main reason your channel is growing faster. Sorry for the spelling mistakes but I'm from Belgium so English isn't my mother language.

The histogram is helpfull indeed. But you can also enable the overexposure warning. Then you can do quick adjustments to just below the warning. Mostly you have a good setting then.

Very informative! Is it wrong to be adjusting the shutter speed to get the ideal exposure, or should you use ND filters?
@EdRickerVlogs
@EdRickerVlogs 3 жыл бұрын
It's not wrong to adjust shutter speed for proper exposure using a camera with a fixed aperture, so it can be done...but it's a heavy-handed workaround that isn't the intended function of shutter speed control. It has some unintended side effects such as a lack of motion blur at higher shutter speeds. It's better to use an ND filter to do the heavy lifting for finding proper exposure, and then only fine tune that exposure with shutter speed in smaller increments. For instance, an ND4 may be too light for a given shot, and an ND8 may be too dark, so I would probably use an ND4 and then very slightly raise my shutter speed to darken the image just a bit more.

Not mentioned in the video, but for those who aren't aware - you should aim to keen your shutter speed twice that of your FPS, and adjust your ISO to change exposure instead of the shutter speed.

also... If you're already at 100 ISO and your f-stop is locked then ND filters would be the next option. But that's a whole other video :)

Big over-light problems here with my MPP, I live on the coast and Have a dark forest bordering a white beach and a highly reflective ocean next to that. Even with filters it is better to wait for a slightly overcast day because if the south pacific sun is shining you aint gonna get any balance between those three surfaces.

Would it be ideal to have a lumetri scope instead of a histogram on screen? Or is that not possible? I know that it's not possible on the DJI app I'm just saying in general, would having a lumetri scope on screen help and if so, why isn't it possible?
@EdRickerVlogs
@EdRickerVlogs 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, perhaps that would be a good idea. I use waveforms on my other cameras sometimes, but the DJI GO is limited to the Histogram. You also have some overexposure guidelines as well similar to zebra stripes, but they seem to be pretty inaccurate and buggy for me. As for why waveforms and other lumetri scopes aren't available, I guess it comes down to the value of the app and the drone...who really knows!

this works for fotos, but not for videos for me. If you have manually shutter speed and turn the camera, you over or under exposure easily.

I would imagine so, the histogram is there to help balance your image before hitting the shutter button.

Hello Ed, maybe you can help me with something. I have the mavic pro by the way. I filmed my dauthers soccer game on 30 fr/sec in 2.7k ntsc. the RAW movie is perfect, but when I want to produce the movie in magix pro it automaticly selects a 29.97 fr/sec. Also no problem but after rendering the grass is blurry/unsharp and flickering a little. do you have any tips how to get rid of this. ps forgive my bad english. regards John.

hey ed , what type of ipad do you use. im gonna splash out on an ipad mini 4 for my mavic pro. or will i go bigger. phone screen too small!.
@EdRickerVlogs
@EdRickerVlogs 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, I use the iPad Mini 4, see here: amzn.to/2uj6KNV I use the Cellular version which is only $14 more than the Wifi version. Even though I used it without a cellular plan until just recently, it was nice to be able to buy the Cellular model to future proof myself in case I ever wanted to apply a cellular plan to the iPad (which I did recently and love it!). Regardless, you can use either model just fine with the drone, you just need to hotspot to it with your phone for any sort of internet connection with the DJI Go App. One thing I've found with the Spark is that it really requires a cellular model device since it connects to the device via Wifi and will override any sort of mobile hotspot wifi internet connection.
@EdRickerVlogs
@EdRickerVlogs 7 жыл бұрын
I should also say that I bought the 16GB model. The 128GB model price discrepancy between the cellular and non-cellular model is quite a big difference.

wait but won;t changing the shutter speed mess up the fps/shutter speed ratio? I thought if youre shooting at 30fps for example, you're shutter should always be 60.
@EdRickerVlogs
@EdRickerVlogs 6 жыл бұрын
ceeloc yes, but there’s no way around that if you don’t have some sort of darkening filter for the Spark. Raising the shutter speed is a necessary evil in that case.
