I’ve tried that, it’s works as far as making more gel but the hold will never be the same

We did this in the 90s with the black gel. We would pour half a bottle of pimp it up spray in with the water and shake it like our life depended on it. I held our hair together real good

How this works: Carbomer is in eco gel and a few others. It absorbs water very well, this is why you see she ended up with more gel. However, now the concentration of the other components is less because now it has more water, resulting in a weaker gel.

It’s better shaken not stirred.. it actually makes a full jar of gel.. I would not add as much water as she did .. due to the hold not being so strong.. but some ppl like a soft hold.. either way it works🤷🏽‍♀️

The problem with adding water to stretch products is it also messes with the preservatives that keep the products shelf stable and safe to use on your body. The products break down faster and start breeding bacteria, then you continue to use them 🤢 The same reason you shouldn’t water down soaps or lotions either.

disclaimer not for all hair types yes water will increase it but the hold will not be the same depending on your hair texture so if you have the four range from 4 a to c. use small amounts and stir gradually still having more Gel to water base

bro when she said last year she reminded me of something. my tt left my lil cousins over and they went the sleep for hours and hours and let me mention this was on new years eve. so when she came and got them she was like “how long they been sleep for?” and i said “since last year” because when she came it was like 1:15 AM on New years day (2023)

Water based gel never holds the same, essentially on slicked styles. You can buy gel that is that consistently so it may be useful to some people.

I agree it works. But with more knowledge in today's society on how products are made etc. Once you put water in any products you need to add a preservative to keep it from spoiling or ruining your hair. So be very careful. Please add some preservative and its magic and you get no worries. Only thing is if the gel was a strong hold before now it will downgrade to medium to soft hold. You would just need to add a bit for touching up daily and brush and you are set to go.

I don't recommend doing this cause it makes the gel not hold your hair good

You just diluted all the preservatives and added a lot of water, this is definitely about to give people scalp issues once that bacteria starts multiplying.

I hope you added some more preservatives to that as well. You’re leaving it open for bacteria and mold to form. The preservatives that was added in there when it was made was enough for the original formulation. When you do that, you change the formulation.

FYI: if adding water to something that’s going to sit around awhile use ‘distilled’ water so it will be stable (more or less)

It’s better TO SHAKE and not stirred! Don’t use so much water though but back in the days we mixed Pump It Up or Stiff Stuff in ours and that hood was AMAAAAAZING!!!!!

Yes it’s kool she was able to do this but Eco gel is very inexpensive in some stores it’s no more than 2 to 3 dollars so to me it’s really not worth doing that you’re really just diluting it

Oldest trick we use to do this in the 90's but added Aloe Vera Gel from the plant you had Gel for the school year.

Question: does it reduce the effectiveness of the preservatives and holding power of the gel? I'd hate for the gel to have an increased chance of bacteria growth that is eventually applied to my hair. Anyone have any experience with this and used the product long-term?

This is what's helping me through the Navy. But one thing though. The water dilutes the product. It doesn't slick it down after mixing it with water though. But it helps stretch it out til payday.

If you only put half a jar of water, it will have better hold than if you fill it with water. The hold is weaker with so much water

Whenever I see these videos it makes me wish I used gel so I could try it. I use oil in my hair so adding water wouldn't make more, it'll just make it watery. Sometimes I put the oil in my hair while I'm still in the shower so that I can rinse my hair after so it won't be too heavy. That's probably all that would happen if I added water in the bottle
