As photographers and videographers, sometimes it's the things we're Not doing that's hurting us in the long term. One thing we're not doing enough of is standing. When MotionGrey heard that I'd hurt my back, they sent over one of their standing desks for me to try out. Let's see what's involved, and how it holds up to day to day use!

Wessssssss! Welcome back. I'm sorry to hear about your injury 😞.. that's gotta be soooo frustrating, but somehow you bounced back! I injured my shoulder a few years back and I had to rethink about how I carried equipment and held the camera. I have one of those waste holsters too! I feel for you bro. Take your time, and stay strong. Love your content and style🏁🏁🏁

Great to see you and the update! Hope you are feeling better. How is the back brace and chair working? Did you get a new chair? I bought the Fully Standing Desk a few years ago (frame only) and it still works great. The frame came with a seven year warranty so that was really good. I bought a 7' long Linnmon black/brown tabletop from IKEA to go on top of the frame and it is still amazing for the amount of space I needed. It holds my MacBook pro, 27" monitor, Satechi multiport hub, Logitech MX Keys wireless keyboard, Logitech MX Anywhere mouse, WD MyPassport 4TB backup drive, Samsung SSDs, Creative Lab speakers, halogen desk lamp, project planners, a small inspiration book, small framed photos, an Intuos Pro, and several lenses. It sounds like a lot to have on one desk but is actually very clean and minimal. Hope you keep getting better. Would love to hear what is working or not working for you. My lower back has gotten a lot better over the past two years through personal rehab exercises, walking and weight loss. I also use my Purple seat cushion to keep pressure off my lower back.

That is a cool option you can adjust the weight distribution. For my 9to5 i use a mini rolling sit/stand desk and I have to use weights to offset my light, monitor and anything else.

With the weight of the legs on this thing, though, my computer is honestly pretty insignificant, and would be very hard to knock over. This thing is Heavy.

I have crook back as well, I can't sit on an ordinary chair for too long, nor can I stand still in one spot for too long. Core exercises have helped a lot but sitting can still be a problem. I'm thinking of getting a recliner ( to relieve the pressure on my lower back) and a sit/stand desk.

Great review! You try multiple monitors on it? If so, how do you find they fit?
@WesPerry
@WesPerry Жыл бұрын
Yep, I have two 27” monitors on arms attached to it now ;) They definitely monopolize the space a bit, but since they’re on arms, they’re pushed back to not really covering up any of the desk anyway.

Just bought my first standing desk! What are your thoughts on it now that you've had it for a while? Do you use it that often? I mainly got it because I edit a lot of videos. Hoping it will be worth the investment. Thanks for the informative video!

Well for one, thankfully my back has gotten a lot better since this day! Entirely possible the standing desk helped me get there. These days I mostly edit sitting, but when a client is in the studio (which is fairly often) I raise the desk up to eye level so the screens are at an ideal height. I have two 27” monitors attached to it and clients love the huge previews that pop up (one is mounted vertically just for this purpose).

Hi Wes! I’m so sorry you hurt your back! Wedding season has to be very painful for you. I’ve had you in mind now that I’m doing more weddings. Do you find that your Godox flashes seem to stop firing as you are doing candids and such during the reception/evening? It seems that they are, but maybe it’s only the ttl preflash I’m seeing. Are they overheating? Any help is appreciated.
@WesPerry
@WesPerry 2 жыл бұрын
All depends on what power level you’re actually using. I almost never use TTL, as I like to remain in control. After a certain number of flashes at certain power levels, they will indeed throttle down. I typically use a couple AD200’s at 1/16 to 1/8 power at receptions, as at that level they stay super fast all night.

I plant them in the cleverest spots that I can. I add a third light during the dances usually, as a backlight.

I mean… I can stand on it when it’s at standing height? Haha It’s quite sturdy. It does have a little wobble to it if you push it/hit it, but just a little.

@WesPerry
@WesPerry 2 жыл бұрын
As long as it has some adjustability to run under the steel cross bars, I don’t see why not. It’s all quite thin under there for the most part.

On my table the cross bracket it 10” in from the front, and once you get to it, including the power supply, it is 2 5/8” thick.

@@WesPerry Indeed is it. And supports over 500lbs - although I haven't tested that much weight. lol
@WesPerry
@WesPerry 2 жыл бұрын
I spoke with the manufacture out the weight ratings. It’s essentially 100lbs per leg, so it has to be distributed evenly. If you put 200 over one leg it may fail. So with the Uplift it’s entirely possible that it’s simply 125lbs per leg…so don’t get cocky with the corners. Haha
