Blueberries have shallow roots and will only get moisture from the first 3 to 4 inches of soil. You would do well to water the blueberries and mulch them heavy. I've grown blueberries for years and I know the watering and mulching works because we've had several yrs of drought, but I kept my bushes alive and thriving. Got gallons and gallons off one bush this year. Fertilize your bushes in early February with a balanced fertilizer and give the trees all your coffee grounds. I save my grounds in an old coffee can and when it's full I dump them around the bushes, gives them a little extra acid that they love.

Hey ya’ll! I watch all the time! We live in Normandy, TN which is Middle TN. I am from East TN near the NC line in Greene County, TN. My brothers still live near Greeneville, TN. Anyway, we live a lot like ya’ll & grew up that way. Raised by my Ma & Pa, they were born in 1903. I learned the real way to live like you do! Want to tell you both, ya’ll are the best teachers for your viewers. You are brilliant & creative! My Dad was a family of 10 kids and they always had a big garden. Then when they all got married and had families of their own. Most of them had garden on their own I learned a lot and always helped my Dad and Mom with their garden. But I’m 65 now and I have to say you both have thought me alot at this age. I have passed what I have learned from you and passed it off to my kids. Thank you so much for sharing your life lessons. I believe it will make a big difference in the future for many.😊❤

We just went thru a Hurricane and 100 temps with no electricity. We had tones of water and l think it’s headed your way. I was the only of my hugh family that had no electricity out. Houston nneeds prayers lot of people suffering in this heat

Thanks for sharing all you folks do around there. It does inspire folks to get out and do anything they can to help feed their families or grow something they really like eat. Learning from you youngsters ( I am 79) has taken me back quite a number of years where they tried to teach me to be a farmer and now I wish I had taken an interest in learning the trade, so I am picking up things that were forced on me back when I was 8 & 9 years old when I was farmed out for the summers . Stay safe and keep up the great videos . Fred.

I know y’all are like me, I don’t plant (or plan) to fail, but it happens! If you play this game long enough, you’re bound to experience it. A good, healthy, attitude, like y’all have, gets you through much easier! Roughest June here in N Central Bama that I can remember but we’re starting July much better with timely rains. Dang temps are still high 90s but we are getting some help from the rains. Y’all keep plugging, we’ll keep watching!

Andy is 100% right, those are Red Bartlett pears! I live in the former Pear Capital of the World, Kelseyville, California. I'm always amazed to see how the east coast stays green all summer & the rain during summer. Here on the west coast, we usually don't get rain beyond spring & are lucky is we get fall rain. Winter is our rainy season & we've had a lot of droughts in the last 10 years. We have to have sprinklers or drip hose to even grow a garden & it must be daily. I'm sorry you're experiencing a drought. I hope you get some saving rain to recover some. I absolutely love your videos & your ways!

I feel guilty,we were in somewhat of a drought here in Ohio , but last night I got 2.1 inches of rain . I believe we still be dry , but the hurricane saved us . Wish I could send you most my rain cause you folks have it a lot lot worse . Your whole state of NC is in a severe drought. Like the videos.👋👋👋❤️

Never had any luck with fruit trees but bushes I can grow. I love shelly beans ( what y'all call October beans ) , crowder peas, purplehull peas. But do you plant okra? You two amaze me. Keep the videos coming . I so enjoy watching. Takes me back in time when I was young enough to do all that. I love how y'all educate from your trials and errors.

What a beautiful site on your trees (fruit) I just planted a nectarine tree. I have two nectarine trees, a cherry tree and the pair but the pair is already been producing for years. It’s 22 years old but I wish I would’ve planted at least 10 years ago more trees. I’m in the city. I have a small space but I still can plant trees .

Your garden is really impressive despite the drought! Your hard work and diligence to insects and animals shows by the plants! Positive outlook even though some plants didn’t grow or got eaten. I’ve had some kind of rodent eating my new plants so I have put a tomato cage and bird netting around my round containers. So I’m going to plant some more green beans. I’m in So. Cal. Again thanks for sharing your lives and gardens with us! You tell us valuable information and inspire us with techniques. I respect your life choices with your family and homestead!!✝️❤️

Considering all the plants and trees you have, you've done a wonderful job dealing with the drought! Am curious about the dried-up blueberries. I dehydrate them and wonder if any on your bushes could be considered the same, only air dried. Could they be reconstituted or ground up? Really enjoy these videos!

Lost my peaches and plums this year from not pruning or spraying enough. Brown rot fungus and worms. Also needed to thin or take off peaches for the rest to get bigger. I took off about a hundred peaches and it still wasn’t enough. Bet I picked over a hundred bad ones that were ripening. 4 year old trees i think. BT, neem, permethrin and copper sulfate used. Will start earlier next winter, prune hard and spray every two weeks til blossoms then start again after blossoms fall until harvest. Lesson learned!

Knock some of the fruit off the trees and you will get bigger and better fruit, I know it’s hard to waste it but we had to do it with pears before, watch the peaches for bore worms,

I haven’t had luck with pumpkins or melons until this year. I planted Kajari melons on my arched cattle panel trellis and they have done amazing! Two plants have made soooo many melons. I planted seminole and cheese pumpkins and they’re growing well but no pumpkins yet. I don’t know how y’all keep up with everything 😂 y’all have soooo much planted! I have a lot of variety but on a much smaller scale and it’s all I can do to keep up with it by myself.

So glad you all got some rain and pray you all (and all the farmers) get some more! Would love to see the patch of sunflowers and zinnias when they came up later in the summer. I'll bet that'll be beautiful! Whenever you all talk about sorghum, I remember my Grandma making dollar-size pancakes for us grandkids, slathering them with peanut butter and molasses, and having pancake-eating contests that way with our Pa (grandpa!). Oh man, they'd get 10" inches high and was SO good, but it's amazing I didn't have more cavities as a young person! Of course my Pa had dentures, so... 😂 I've always said "Have a good one!" too so I hope you all do. And God bless!

You always speak of muskadine. Had no clue what it is so got on the internet. It's a grape native to the southern states. I'm from extreme northern State. That's why I have never heard of it. i've never heard of it

Like I said in part one, despite the drought everything still looks good. The way I look at it, you have to take the good with the bad. As for the corn, seed saved from your fields under the stress we are experiencing, will produce a landrace cross that will have awesome traits as it pertains to drought resistance, vigor and tolerance. Just continue to have fun with it, and future results will make it all worth while. 👍🏽

When we planted field corn the outside rows always got hit hard by the deer. They'd eat half the cob and move on to the next one. We would cut them down with a machete, load them into a wagon and feed them to our beef cattle. It's a lot of work but the cows sure liked it.

This was the first year i had fruit on my trees. A co worker has fruit on his for the first time also. Has to be a star alignment moon phase thing i guess 🤷‍♂️

That second peach tree of y’all’s, that’s exactly what my Peaches look like! We’ve had enough rain in TN. Not too much either. But our tree is about 7 years old, it’s been struck by lightning, last year we had a very bad wind storm that I thought took it out. Well it’s loaded down this year. They’re just small and not ripening up👍

I still have not had one drop of rain. Glad yall had an inch!! My garden across the road is barely hanging on. My plants at the house are doing well cause I can water these. You are absolutely right about deer eating things that they don't normally eat. They are eating on my impatiens which they have never done. They stemmed my peppers including jalapeños

Y’all it has rained all around us . We in patetown had o for June and a half inch so far for July. So hopefully we get three inches out of this low pressure coming this weekend. If I can get some really good rain I will be replanting the garden . How it has done what it has been by the grace of God

We have huge blackberry bushes growing at the base of our driveway. They have all shriveled up and died. Of course, here in California and in our area particularly, we’ve experiencing a heat wave that’s in the triple digit teens. Mostly around 112 and 113 but we’ve had a few 116s and 117s. And we don’t water them wild bushes. On the flip side, they are growing up along the edge of a pond.

Andy I’m guessing that if you do have a good corn crop it’s going to be in the garden that’s in the garden beside your house and you were talking about the sorgam in your garden and I love sorghum molasses and it’s so high in the grocery store that you can’t afford to buy it and I have been to festivals that have it and it’s about $10 dollars for a pint jar of it

SQUASH BUGS. check out Tippers recipe for easy to make squash bug spray on her channel "celebrating Appalachia." I only have a few plants, so I made a small batch to put in a spray bottle. I used about 2 Tblsp red pepper flakes and one whole bulb garlic. Ground them with a little water to make a slurry. Poured about 4 cups boiling water over it and let it sit about 8 hours. Strained it into spray bottle. Sprayed squash plant (top and bottom leaves and all) in the early evening. By morning the young ones were dead and the big ones were dead or gone. Sprayed them the 2nd night just in case, but no sign of bugs. My squash plants bounced back and is bright and happy. Hope this helps. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for what you do.
