THE NARCISSIST: I’m on the verge of KZfaq burnout, caught in the wicked world of shoot, make, upload, repeat. It’s a good life, and this ain’t a grizzle, no, it’s more of a reflection of how I’ve been sucked into the belief that more is better and consistency is king. I’m sure this can be the case, but it sucks to live by it. And I haven’t fished in too long, and I like fishing. I’m patient when I fish. In fact it’s one of the only places I’m happy to wait.
Today is a day of attention restoration. Listening to my wandering mind. Paying attention to how and where a fish might be. And trying to do as much as I can while doing as little as possible.

Your comments reminded me of something Thomas Merton once wrote: When an archer is shooting for nothing He has all his skill. If he shoots for a brass buckle He is already nervous. If he shoots for a prize of gold He goes blind Or sees two targets - He is out of his mind. His skill has not changed, But the prize Divides him. He cares, He thinks more of winning Than of shooting - And the need to win Drains him of power.

"Slower with Uploads" - Welcome to my world! Beau, your candid reflection in 'Get Over Yourself' really resonates. The way you equate the relentless cycle of content creation to a fisherman's day out-aiming not just to catch fish, but to enjoy the solitude and process-strikes a powerful chord. It's a poignant reminder of the importance of balancing our ambitions with our well-being. Much like the Australian red fox, you find yourself in an environment you've adapted to thrive in, yet the pressures are ever-present. Here’s to finding more of those peaceful moments by the water, where the real catch isn't fish, but a bit of tranquility and self-acceptance. Keep navigating these waters, Beau, your journey helps all of us reflect on our own.

I've realised that, the older I get, the more I appreciate the small, uncomplicated moments that I can just enjoy for their own sakes. Over the years, I've tried to uncomplicate my everyday life to be more 'present', whatever I'm doing and, to my untrained eye, it looks a bit like you're doing the same, Beau. Whether I'm right or wrong, keep doing what you do so very well, mate. Goodonya.

I always love your bigger videos, but many of the more basic ones -- like this -- are great. A good reminder that any weekend day for most of us, we can head out and do something cool. I sometimes see friends on big vacation trips and think, "That looks like fun," but then they talk about being exhausted and how they burned their one bit of time off and were always on the go. Meanwhile, almost any weekend, my wife and I can hop in our canoe or go for a morning hike and walk away with more than some people I know doing bigger things. That's what I love about what you do: whether big or small, it's always good stuff with a real message. Thanks!

@@kiprs They really do, and youtubers need to take a joke, not take offense, get off their high horse and, yes, "get over themselves". What that bro said was a very appropriate commentary of this youtube culture we live in, where we meet people filming themselves. So instead of coming over to say hello or shake hands, they turn around and go away to not "ruin their shot". These people are doing content in public all over... they are everywhere... on the bus, on the train, while running, climbing, skiing, boating, whatever. Always talking to their invisible audience, having their effing gopros phonesticks tripods and their drones and talking by themselves about what THEY DO. It is annoying to the normal people. But... when you try to get away to some remote place like a lake or mountain or trail, and you see THE EXACT SAME PEOPLE, even there, is DOUBLE ANNOYING. I've seen people getting angry, rightfully so, when people drive their drones over the lake, scaring the fish away. This is asshole behaviour. Or doing shitty "challenges" or pranks on people who are not in on it. This is the sad reality on "content creators". Of course some are different and I think Beau is, in all honesty. He takes a joke, enjoys what he does and does not bother people. This content, I like. But overall, most people are sick of youtubers.

I always loved that your uploads are not as frequent as the usual content-mania, we're living in. For me it was such a core quality of your stuff, that it happend in a different pace. A pace, which felt so much more natural, genuine and healthy to me. I make my living from being an Artist myself and I definitely know that nagging feeling, you're describing. But I truly believe that especially we as creators should be aware, that keepin up the fun is not a trivial side-hustle, but actually our Main Quest. To go again that dulling hurry and fight for the space, the calmness, the patience and the love, which that golden spark of creativity needs to glow.

This hit home. I love the simplicity of life. I felt that when I was a missionary for my church and again when I was a river guide. I felt lighter and more joyful in those experiences because of how simple life was at those times. Ambition and providing for a family have complicated life a bit. But like you Beau it's all for the betterment of myself. There will be a time when my kids are grown and life will become simple again. But for now, I will have to bask in the few weeks a year when I can escape from work and my kids' soccer games and spend it fishing and white water rafting. Thanks so much for this. Hoping each new one will do better than the last. Obsessing over analytics and subscriber numbers. I had a burnout last year and I'm glad I did. When I hear you reflect it provides moments of instant clarity & realisation, it’s like someone flicks and switch and boom that thing I was worried about or not worried about is pulled into focus. It’s the same with your video about training for the ultra marathon. I’ve got into running recently and I’ve been constantly trying to do better or run further or run faster, and I hadn’t thought it would burn me out. When I watched your video about training ‘with tech’ for the first time and not chasing the numbers it was the same feeling of realisation - why am I worried about this when I should just be enjoying the run? Part of what makes your videos unique is you, and if that means your faults as a person as well as your personality, then that’s what makes your content work. Keep doing what you’re doing 🙂

Life is like a water butt. It starts fresh and full of potential, Slowly, over time filling with water. That water can bring life and energy to that, can absorb. The more we drain that butt, the less that is left. Take from it too often, it shall become empty. But give that butt some time, it shall refill, brimming once again. You can't keep taking from what is empty, you need to give things time for the ideas, the spark, the fire within to bring life to our ideas. I love your content beau, I think your spin on things is just great! It seems we are all trying to find some meaning to what we call life. And your content definitely strikes a match within me. Thank you for all the effort and time you go to, to share a small glimpse of your journey through what we call life!

Brilliant storytelling and an enjoyable watch. It's great how these simple reality shows with a person filming themselves and some clever editing and dialogue have become so popular. It's actually, really inspiring that in this day and age, the simple man can survive outside of his natural habitat, and maybe even find new lands.

This one really hit home Beau. It's the reason I've always struggled to be consistent with my uploads. There's relentless pressure to create videos that are bigger, better, and more... everything. If a video doesn't have great click potential, why even upload it? You're right, the fillers are the ones that we want to make, the ones we make for ourselves, the ones that are fun for us. You rock.

I love your content man, and everything you said. IM so tired today. I love how one video takes off and the next can sit for a day or two. I love listening to everyone talk about "how" the AI works, news if you figure it out it will change, just leave that alone lol I might have just woken up but everything you said in this video is so fitting to my last week of life. I not doing anything today!

Beau! Even though that adventure-loaded blue hat pinned way high up the barn definitely had its charms, I love that shining pink flashy new hat of yours, as well. Guess life seasons change, but with it, we adapt and learn to love our circumstances. Wish you more adventure-filled hats(no matter how the adventures actually look like), time for running, fixing and enjoying every bit of life! Good on you.

Hey Beau, I just wanted to say thank your for your videos. I'm following since, I don't know anymore how long. Probably since the running a mile every hour video. For myself your videos are great way to calm me down because you as a person are just as calm as it can be. Even the videos which are more energetic do that for me. Because your videos are somewhat you. Authentic. I'm grateful that I can look into your life as an Austrailian and how you think and react in certain situations. I live in Hamburg Germany, a high density human area where time is of highest value. As it's for me watching your videos to ground myself I think it's always important to understand each other and your videos are doing a great part for it extending my horizon. Always think outside of the box and look around the corner. And keep your brain young. Quality over Quantity is in most times a good idea to keep yourself sane. I hope you get what I mean. :)

Thanks Beau, You've reminded me to get back out on that particular body of water in my kayak and paddle as far upstream as the water level permits. Take some coffee and a jetboil or just light a fire and wait till it boils. Keep it simple. A brilliant place to spend a day. Don't know that I've ever caught a fish there though. Cheers, Ken B.

I work full time, have a 2 year old and a child on the way. I have maintenance on my house and all the things that come with a normal life. I have been throwing a lot of my energy at KZfaq over the last 2 or so months. You certainly do become a workaholic. I've been burning the candle at both ends. I don't get a large reception to my videos as my channel is small and niche, but I still enjoy doing it. Keep making videos mate, I enjoy yours and they seem to be the most down to earth ones I see on KZfaq. Thanks.
