3 steps I do to teach my horse to follow their nose around. This technique teaches your horse to stay balanced and follow the direction of the pull without getting too bendy.
I love doing this periodically to check in with my horse and see how responsive they are and now stiff of noodly they are. Ideally, they bend a bit but move their feet instead of just their head and neck. It's a simple, easy tool to train you and your horse to move quick!
This WILL translate into your barrel pattern.
Try it out and let me know how it went!

What do you think about not using split rains? Does it make a difference when barrel racing?
@WeCanHustle
@WeCanHustle 3 жыл бұрын
I train sometimes in split reins but definitely still use my gaming reins a lot at home and running. I think it’s good to practice at home what you’d run in.. so that means using the gaming reins

Hi. My horse likes to stop while turning. How do I encourage him to keep going around it?
@WeCanHustle
@WeCanHustle 3 жыл бұрын
Squeeze your legs. Keep your hands low and forward and ride it as well. Use your momentum to help encourage him forward motion too. Try doing that away from a barrel first

How can I do this with my horse who doesn't neck rein
@WeCanHustle
@WeCanHustle 3 жыл бұрын
This is an excellent way for your horse to learn what the outside rein means. You begin with what you want your ultimate cue to be(direct rein to come around) then the outside rein to teach him what it means and to bring his front end around. then the leg as more motivation! Good Luck

I just got a horse that’s been on barrels but not very well and is super super speedy when asked but he definitely doesn’t have a good bit for barrels and is trained to be a neck reined how would I make have tighter turns when he’s trained to do neck rein only
@WeCanHustle
@WeCanHustle 4 жыл бұрын
Equestrian Times what I would suggest is start using direct rein, he was taught that first before neck reining(which is awesome for a horse to know) Barrel racing does require a horse to know neck reining but we also need shape, you get that with your inside. So do step 1 of this video, try to get his nose in the direction you want. The best bit to start is a pull style but, like an o-ring.

But what if you have a horse you know can do it but won’t for example go around the barrel?
@WeCanHustle
@WeCanHustle 4 жыл бұрын
Olivia Mason think about making the required result easy and pleasant for the horse. So, If they won’t go around the barrel properly think of that being unpleasant. if they do it wrong, keep the pressure and go around a few times until you’re happier with it. If they do it good the first time move on.

i just got a new horse as a barrel prospect and i need a nice bit on him but i’m not sure which one. he doesn’t respond to a dog bone roller or even a normal dog bone, kinda a random question but he just doesn’t respond to my turns or me trying to stop him. Any recommendations??

The mouthpiece is only 1 part of the bit that will affect your horse. Is it an o-ring of does it have a shank? The rule of thumb is the longer shank, the more leverage and the more woah you get. But, a bit wont usually fix all the problems. It sounds like a communication issue you're having. If you like some more help - shelbyoly.com/ I am offering a coaching/mentorship program! I'd love to help further.

My horse was actually doing that. She wouldn’t respond to my commands very well and i changed her reins from split reins to barrel reins. Lol she responded to my commands so much better maybe she was just being funny but maybe try out different reins or bits or get a curb chain?

@@rubybeth7745 Thats awesome that helped! Sometimes a small adjustment goes a long way. To find what works is to definitely experiment until it clicks with you and your horse.

Kinzhorses sorta ish.. it’s more to get them to understand the first cue is direct rein to do a turnaround. My goal is to get a snappy front end. Not focus on their rear
