Does it work the same for speakers sold locally that feel the need to remind you what brand you bought every time you turn it on? "Powering on. Welcome to Altec Lansing" is buried so deep in my mind I'll never forget it

Yes, the switch basically cuts power from the loudspeaker element until you WANT them to produce sounds, at which point you flick the switch on and restore power to the individual speakers :)

I accidentally discovered a method of voice removal using my Bluetooth speaker while the instrumental continued to play in the background. All I did was disconnect the negative tweeter cable from the PCB board, and I was able to play any song and record instrumentals that I couldn't find anywhere else.

Easy way : This Extreme had way: Separate ROM chip, use ROM chip decoder to decode chip and MP3 file, put own startup sound MP3, for example this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mtyPp5uA0qeyqJ8.html (this is not mine video) or leave blank. Could have used a monostable 555 timer to generate a mute pulse during startup for this as well, saves a button press and a nasty hole. But what should i expect from someone using plumber's soldering tools on electronics.....

It's been few years and this is the only solution I could find, (same as presented in video) it's simple but not effective. Why? Well because each time you press something on M (mode) you get a notification also when the battery is low this woman yells at you. If you turn off your speaker there is no indication of wtf you did which button press counted or didn't and turning it back on can also creep in some surprises. Also each time you do this a speaker gets a volume boost and makes loud thump noises on button press which would drive me insane and it isn't good for the speaker anyway and lastly the battery notification is still there yelling at you. I would actually have no problem with these voices being present, my main issue is that they are insanely loud, they are twice as loud as the system itself on maximum. It gave me a headache and didn't used it ever since. I am not joking, my ears were ringing for days and I had massive headaches. I seen these tossed out into the trash because of this and it really bums me out that we pollute the planet in this case because of stupid chip that have loud voice prompts that cannot be replaces or modded. I hate throwing things out and with it I have couple of these laying around waiting for a fix or to reuse for something. So with that said I have a question equally a suggestion of how to fix this. Is it perhaps possible to replace a chip with one that doesn't have these voices in but maybe some more low volume sound prompts, also maybe with a chip that can be modded so you can place your own sounds in. For example if you take a chip from some cheaper trash grade poorly sounded one (usually the pocket portables ones for your phone) and replace it into a better unit such as a bigger soundbar (which I have) I would bring life into these soundbars. They sound great (the ones I have) but the issue are these sound alerts. What I gathered this is a driver chip that also contains the sounds and so far we couldn't find the way to hack it. If you remove the chip the device will stop working. It have some drive properties, it isn't simply a sound chip. If that works then I could source a ''throwaway'' smaller unit and take chip and parts from that and solder it into the soundbar. My next step would be also solder in a led option so each time I switch between I get a blinking notification what I am doing. And if it's a device on or off etc. Since my soundbars don't have a light at all.

Good luck trying to solder a microchip, I've actually thought about this quite a lot while disassembling an old Chinese speaker I had laying around (battery expired) and apart from the firmware on the chip that likely isn't intercompatible with other speakers, the soldering skills and tools needed to successfully perform such a mechanical brain transplant really isn't worth the hassle.
