Not too concerned with long ranges. We live in the rain forest of Oregon. :) Much elk hunting is done at 30-40 meters. Will be the same for 2 legged targets. The clearest shot on our property is less than 100 meters. So for home defense its 12 gauge buckshot & a 9mm MP-40P. 25 rounds baby! My .308 has an old German military style side mount scope. Sometimes things are too close to use the scope, so it is good to have iron sights too.

Folks we aint seen the last ammo shortage or price increase yet. Every time we have had one its taken longer for supplies to reach the market for availability and the prices have significantly increased every time. If you aint got it now, you need to move before they raise the parking rates! I agreed with you all the way down to pick #6...what does the Creedmoor do that the .308/7.62x51 can't adequately give comparable performance on? Yes the creed bucks the wind a bit better and shoots a little flatter, but is the difference so great I need both? If you need more range/power...why not a 7mm Rem Mag, 264 Win Mag, 300 Win Mag or 338 Lapua if you need to shoot at extreme ranges? In a SHTF situation...what % of your shots are gonna be in excess of 500 yards you think? While long range shooting has exploded in the last 5 years, how many shooters out there have the skill required to consistently hit at 1000? Not hating, just sayin'...

False. 7.62 NATO typically has less pressure than 308 even though they are identical dimensionally. So a gun chambered in 7.62 NATO cannot and should not fire 308 but a gun chambered for 308 can fire 7.62. Fortunately most new guns fire both and are built to fire 308. It just older ones chambered for the NATO cartridge that you should be nervous about.

Mossberg 12gauge pump, can’t go wrong there. I use a combo of #4 high brass, slugs, and 00 buck shot. AR-15, AR-10, AK-47, Springfield M1A .308 also a go for me. For the 12 gauge. Bird shot really isn’t the best option. The pellets are too small and can be easily stopped. You should really be using buck shot or slugs. Slugs are lethal out to 400+ yards. At that range you’ll have about 4+ feet of drop. So it’ll be hard to hit a target at that range. Buck shot spreads about an inch per yard. So a 25 yard shot should have about a 25” pattern. So it’s important you pattern your gun. The 22 lr is lethal out to 400+ yards. So it’s definitely not something to underestimate. For home defense situations the fbi released stats showing a gun fight usually ended after 1 shot from a shotgun. 10+ from a 22 gun. And 5-9 from a mid caliber handgun like a 9-357 magnum. So a 45 and 9 have basically the same number of shots needed to end the fight.

My 12 gauge loads of choice: 1) Hornady Black .00-Buck, which leaves the muzzle at a soul-shredding 1600-fps and sticks it to all lesser buck loads of any brand name, like the master it is. 2) Hornady 1-1/8 ounce solid lead slug - this might as well be a precursor to the 500-nitro elephant gun. My handgun calibers & loadings of choice: 1) .45-ACP, in 230-grain Hydrashock Hollowpoint. Internal organs, shminternal organs! Know what I'm saying? This loading to be fired from either a Ruger stainless steel 1911, or an Auto-ordnance WW2-Milspec M1911A1 with 'U.S. Army' roll markings on the side, or from their semiauto M1928A1 Thompson Submachine gun with 16" barrel and 100-round drum magazine. 2) .45 Long Colt from Buffalo Bore, who makes the most powerful versions of really anything. Specifically though, everything from Hydrashock Hollowpoint to tin-hardened plain unjacketed lead, in the heaviest grain-weights & highest muzzle velocities/energy ratings I can get my hands on. This, to be fired from a stainless steel Ruger Vaquero. 3) .44 Magnum, again from Buffalo Bore, who makes this 360-grain unjacketed lead round that will grin smugly as it proceeds to physically pimp-slap your soul out of your body & straight into the next alternate universe! This one, to be fired from an all stainless steel Ruger Blackhawk (which is intentionally built to withstand +P loads) 4) 500-S&W Magnum, to be fired from the Smith & Wesson 8.38-inch barreled 5-round X-frame series revolver they sell in stainless steel. My rifle calibers & loadings of choice: 1) 5.56 NATO - NOT .223, I mean military 5.56 NATO. Specifically, the M855 Green-Tip, which has a steel penetrator core in it for shooting through kevlar and thin sheet steel (such as incoming hostile vehicles). Also, the red-tip tracer rounds - after SHTF, when we are free to say "what the flip are the Geneva Conventions," I plan on hole-cooking some fool tard who thought robbing me was the way to go. 2) 7.62 NATO - Again, NOT .308... I mean military 7.62 NATO. Again, the steel penetrator load, and the tracer round - see above for reasons why in each case. This, to be fired from the Armalite AR10-A2 with 25-round magazine. 3) WW2 military-load .30-06. Ask a few dead "nat-zies" why I favor that one. This, to be fired from the Ruger stainless steel bolt-action Guide Gun, which seems to be effectively Ruger's modern threaded-muzzle take on the WW2 M1903 rifle series once made by Springfield Armory. This is the perfect sniper, as it first of all fires the round that showed the whole European side of WW2 who was boss on this planet. And second, because its threaded muzzle just screams "please stick a silencer on me after SHTF!" 4) .50 BMG, for use in a bolt-action .50 sniper model - these, in whatever loading I can legally acquire. This round was putting ventilation holes in invisible souls since WW2, and it will continue to do so until the end of the age. THESE... are MY calibers to stockpile by the ship-load, thank you.

But, here on this channel you talk nonstop and are very knowledgeable about many many topics and you never have to go to a reference sheet or anything of the like, are we witnessing a miracle here? I am a Vietnam Veteran and I have buddies who are far gone from War scars and they can't even pay attention let alone run a KZfaq channel. it's just creepy to see all that you are capable of with your knowledge! yet claim from the VA.

For safety and knowledge, I have seen test done were the 9mm FMJ, penetrates over 9 in into ballistic gel at 450 yd... the tester was aiming over 6 1/2 ft above the target. But this is educational... in World War II captured Americans, would report on how the officer that captured them, would look at our 45 ammo and be freaked out. Psychology in action

It’s where you put the round. Getting a CNS shot with 9mm will do the same as the 45. It’s when you don’t get an ideal CNS shot where larger diameter rounds best 9mm. However, now your caveat is capacity where you have more chances with 9mm and in case there are multiple threats. Everything has a tradeoff.

You only need 223, 9mm and .22lr, mostly 22's. Get set up to cast 160 gr lrn .38 bullets, sizing them to .356" for 9mm. and drive them just 800 fps, or you'll get bore fouling. You'll have to add a bit of antimony and tin to your scrap wheelweight lead-alloy. Stockpile primers and powder, so that your 9mm components go twice as far. Get some airsoft and .177 lead pellet guns. Use them when you'd normally use .22lr and use a 22lr conversion unit or 22lr understudy for 3/4 of what you'd normally do with 9mm and for your sub 75m snapshooting practice, instead of 223.

Since you are talking about band wagons, yeah the 5.56 will reach out to 500 yards, effectively??? Not so much. The 6mmARC and the 6.5 Grendel will both be super sonic out to 1,000 yards, can be used for hunting and defense. both of those rounds carry way more energy than the 5.56 from the muzzle all the way out to 1,000 yards and unlike the .308/7.62x51 they will fit in an AR-15 platform!

A GOOD 223 silencer renders full power 223 rds every BIT as 'tame' to use as the 22 unit on the AR, without the silencer Doing so saves you 40c per shot. (as vs 223 prices) This savings and the 10c per shot savings with 9mm lead reloads, the 8c per shot savings of airguns vs 22lr, and not needing range fees or travel expenses, swiftly pays for the airguns, the 223 silencer, the 22 lr pistol and conversion unit for the AR, as well as the casting and reloading gear. The Lee 1000 progressive loads 500 rds per hour. A 20 lb propane pot and a "turkey roaster "E bay) can melt a 50 lb cast iron pot of lead, and a 6 cavity Lee bullet mold (Midway USA) will cast 800 bullets per hour. then you can size/lube about 800 bullets per hour with a Lee hand sizer and their single station reloading press and Alox bullet lube.

With over 45 years of experience in the business and from the old school, I agree 90% to 95% on your list, I'm not a big fan to using birdshot, the way to go is O, 00, 000 or buckshot, if we are going by your scenario, also I would prefer the 30-06 over the 6.5 Creedmoor, will have a wider range of bullet weight one can use, from the 55 gr. Accelerators, all the way to the 220-gr. power point and out to 1500 yards with a good scope. All is true, better to get it now before the ammo is gone and don't forget about all the other items one is going to need, for a possible chance of surviving, food, water, medication, bedding, clothing and how to stay warm, fire making, don't leave anything to chance. Another thing to take into consideration, place ammo in sealed container, with anti-mousier bags in them and keep all ammo stored in an environmental control environment, extreme cold in the winter and extreme heat in the summer will damage your stockpile.

300 Mag is better as you can switch from 150 GR. to 180 gr. with no difference in impact on Target except at very long range. I have owned 30.06 and also have 6.5 Creedmoor and only got this caliber because when i bought Ruger Precision it did not come in 300 mag at the time, but of course now does, but the creedmoor is good too. I have owned a lot of different calibers, but have always had to re-sight for difference in bullet weight, but never with 300 mag.

A lot of comments about .308 being the same as a 7.62x51. While close, after many jumps into the deep end it seems the .308 will shoot the 7.62x51 safely but the opposite is not necessarily true. A WWII military rifle chambered in the 7.62 should be safe with the .308 but civilian versions probably are not. This is about as widely debated as you can think, but I’ll run the consensus that the .308 is safer shooting either but still buy the exact ammo it requires. I’m less confused after looking at 25(?) article, but not 100% convinced.
