Your son's little voice in the intro just melts my heart. I'd love an updated yarn pantry tour! It's so interesting to see the kinds of yarns people choose... or maybe I'm just nosy. Thanks for keeping me company while I work on my Mini Mock Neck :)

I enjoy holding yarns double for many reasons! 1. Can create a different fabric that isn't achievable by a single strand. 2. Warmth! I think more air can be trapped in because the stitches don't seem to have as much gaping in between the stitches. I feel like socks with yarn held double are warmer than single stranded socks at the same fabric gauge. 3. Breaks up variegated yarns when held with either the same yarn from a different skein or dye lot or even with another solid/tonal. 4. If going for a scrappy look, can marl a bunch of yarns together and use odds and ends. Thank you for sharing the academic + the life experience aspect of horticulture! We're big on being outside and try to have memberships to the arboretums in any state we've lived in. Our children enjoy identifying plants and if they see something they don't know and want to learn more about, they ask and we talk about it! My husband and I both grew up gardening and my MIL is also a Master Gardener so we all learn a lot from her. I also LOVE ice cream, gelato, and sorbet!! Just. So. Good. In the summer I'll often make our own just to always have some on hand in the freezer.

Have you heard of 1000 Hours Outside? It started to get kids off screens and outside. I’m an adult but I’m doing it, I started last September. When you talked about getting outside with your son I thought of that. Fun q&a, thanks for sharing!

Loved learning some more about you, Hannah! I definitely know who I’ll hit up the next time I’m planning a trip somewhere. 😉 I think the ecophobia can definitely be translated to adult as well and I know my feelings toward nature and the environment can sometimes leave me a bit distressed. But learning more about your horticultural/environmental studies has been fascinating. Thanks for sharing! ❤

I love your Ranunculus. I just finished my first one with long sleeves, and I'm thinking to do a short sleeved one now. I think holding yarn double also allows for marling and fading colours really nicely.

So fun to learn more about you. I’m also a trip planner!! Right now I’m obsessively saving things for our Washington trip. I think actually for me the planning is almost as much fun as the going! Also, mohair held double…. I think I like this for a couple reasons (1) it helps prevent pilling and the fabric tends to show less wear (2) while it can be warmer, it also is fantastic for transitional knits. I have worn my PoppyTee and Collett Tee so much in spring and fall. I noticed they both are fingering and mohair. So I’m going to lean into that this spring.

I have held yarn double many times. Some reasons are to use up, say, two fingerings because you have it on hand. It makes a little more dense fabric but works well and if using different colors, can marl the coloring. I’ve held two fingering double for DK weight socks and, no, you cannot feel the yarn. It makes for nice, dense, cushy warm socks. Holding the two fingering double knits up a bit heavier than standard DK weight does so could be bulkier in your sneakers. Would be great in boots. If you use two ‘light’ fingering, it is more like a regular DK weight but you should give it a try sometime. It’s very satisfying. Even for house socks. They are just warm and soft. You can also use fingering and mohair for DK socks which is lovely too. I think a lot of people just like to experiment and use up yarn on hand. Works great for using up leftovers or yarn on hand too.

I love these q&a videos, Hannah! I think your horticulture degree sounds so fascinating! I'm hoping to have a backyard garden for the first time this year and I can't wait to get started. For holding yarn double, I've never worked with a mohair/suri + wool combo, but I often hold fingering weight yarn double to get a DK or Worsted weight. I have a lot of fingering weight in my stash so being able to hold it double means I can make more projects that I wouldn't be able to otherwise.

sometimes holding yarn double can make a more durable/pill resistant fabric as compared to holding yarn single as the lighter weight yarns tend to be more tightly plied compared to heavier weight yarns (especially bulky yarns)!

Where I'm from up in British Columbia, Canada, we have a local ice cream shop that is also known for their unique flavours. Some of the best I've had there are cinnamon toast crunch, earl grey, strawberry elderflower, brown butter blueberry waffle, peach basil, blackberry chèvre, and rhubarb cardamom. It's incredibly dangerous how close I live to this shop...
