My father was a First Shirt back in the day before it became a special duty assignment. It's not for the enlisted to find the Shirt, the Shirt finds all his enlisted personnel and introduces their self. So they can see him upfront before having to locate him/her.

Our son was given the title First Sergeant of the 114th Electronic Warfare Squadron. This is a great video that explains what that entails.

I was in the Air Force during the late 90s. I wound up being sent to PSAB, Saudi Arabia. I had some difficulty coping with stress and anxiety. I got to speak to MSgt Armijo, the first sergeant. I will never forget him.

That's a great Wingman. The Air Force is full of great people!

I agree it was my experience too. The first sergeant was the guy that handled the airmen that bounced checks. He was the guy that the civilian PD called when an airman got a DUI. He was also involved with families that were in horrible domestic situations. I was young single but responsible so I never really saw him. To me it took a special kind of person to do that job. Teaching people life's lessons that they should have learned before they entered the Air Force.

A First Sergeant is someone who will do everything possible to earn the respect of every enlisted individual under their authority and do everything possible to provide answers to those same individuals in regards to any question(s) they may ask.

I was a close friend to my first sergeant. Chief Triplett even decided to pull a joke on me when I was promoted to staff sergeant. This joke included my flight chief, shift commander and the commander of the security police squadron which I was assigned to. Everyone had fun with me, but that was okay I was promoted. We had one incident where I was ordered by the first sergeant to arrest an airman that had damaged one of the walls in our day room. Then the first shirt asked me to call the commander for a telephonic search warrant of the airman's room, we found more than enough to convict the airman at a courts martial including live rounds he claimed to have lost! I was the dorm chief so anything related to the dorm I reported directly to the first shirt, then advised my shift commander of my actions! I was able to pay the first sergeant back for the joke he designed when I got promoted!!

Thanks for the video. Things have changed since my time (early 80s) when my first permanent supervisor told me “If you can leave this unit and the First Sergeant doesn’t know your name, you’ve done a great job.”

Thank you for watching. Yes, things have definitely changed.

I remember seeing this video shortly before I enlisted and now I've been in for about 16 months. In tech school, my roommate got tangled in an ARI and the shirt there seemed especially determined on having the book thrown at my roommate. Ever since then, first shirts have kind of made me nervous. I had to talk to ours to process some emergency leave earlier this year and that was fine. But for the most part, shirts still make me nervous. They're there to take care of you, but they're also the one you're talking to when you're in trouble. I suppose YMMV, depending on the situation and who the shirt is.

True, but remember that if you stay out of trouble....you don't have to worry about anything. They're position is to take care of what needs to be done both positive and negative for the commander. Congrats on your Air Force journey.

I remember watching Iron Eagle as a kid and falling in love with the glam that went behind all that. How has the onset of the drones in this day in age affected the Air Force as a whole? Do you think they will ever engage in air to air combat? To me it seems like they are a good thing in the sense that they protect a person away from enemy lines. I can see that they can take away jobs..or do they not take away jobs? Just would like your angle on this since you have been in the Airforce so long.

I'm not well versed when it comes to drones. I like the idea that they can do surveillance without a body in harms way. We still need people in the Air Force so it may affect the numbers but I would imagine minimally.

My Airmen shouldn't have to come find me, introduce themselves. I will find them and introduce myself. :-) The Shirt.

Sir I ship out on Tuesday any tips on Bmt and the Air Force I'm open electric too so any tips on that thanks for all your videos and I hope to wear the same uniform as you
@yourmilitarymoney8 жыл бұрын
BMT will be challenging, it's meant to be that way. Remember that if you put in the effort and adapt quickly, you'll be fine. You'll be a part of a team that is in the same situation as you. Find a reliable team mate(s) and work together. You'll go in as an individual and graduate as a member of the Air Force! Don't forget that. Open electric to me means you'll be part of Civil Engineering. During BMT you'll find out what job you get and most likely your technical training will be at Shepherd AFB in Texas (?). Good luck and let me know what you thought about BMT when you can. You got this!

+YOUR Military Money See, this is why I'm so interested in joining the Air Force. I know there's great people in every service, but you and +Kyle Gott are so supportive of everyone and it's very awesome to have that support and welcoming.
