Now every time you hear about someone’s expat journey on a podcast or in a blog post, you feel a bit jealous of them and irritated with yourself.
You think, why can’t I Iive that kind of lifestyle?
The truth is, you can!
But you’ve lost faith that that is even possible. So instead of taking steps to make your dream a reality, you spend way too much time pining away for a life abroad without taking meaningful steps to make it happen.
You find yourself making excuses and procrastinating. And time passed.
Now, you are no closer to living abroad than when your dream found you all that time ago. And now you feel stuck.
You are frustrated, and you tell yourself there has got to be more to life than what you are living. Anxious, annoyed, and stymied, you relegate yourself to living your dream through the stories of those who are living their lives in foreign countries. And day after day, the walls continue to close in on you.
And COVID-19 has made things even worse. Are you kicking yourself because you didn’t act on your plans and move to that place where you feel so free and alive before the pandemic struck and completely stalled your life?

Regarding older women moving abroad: I've wanted to live in France since I was 4. I'm moving to France in a few days. And starting a new business. I'm 78 going on 48!

As Patricia says, it's important to know what you are running to, not just what you might be running from. Without that positive draw, you could be making a mistake about the right place to move. If it's France, then why is it France? It might be Italy or another country, but it's critical to have that draw, that enticement, that leads you to that place on the planet. I knew, after 32 years in Asia, that I didn't want to live in the US again. France attracted me for many reasons, most of which are still valid after a number of years here.

I want to move to France because I lived in le celle saint cloud as a teenager with my father and loved it. I do have to say that I was attacked, cursed and spit on and experienced more unpleasantness in France than I have throughout my life and am never afraid to go out in the states but I still just want a change, a challenge and the lifestyle in France. I am American and grew up in Turkey, Iran, France, Japan and the US and feel that political extremists are everywhere and that half the population has drank the Kool aide and gone over the edge and need to blame "others" for their own limitations. I will definitely be looking at Patricia, Adrian and Patty for guidance and encouragement. I'm a 63 year young single woman that will spend my "Golden years" travelling the world and loving all the people I get to share this beautiful planet with. Thank you for this wonderful conversation.

After venturing out of the USA for the first time, in 2014, I started thinking about life abroad. I would go on trips and return telling my coworkers that I wanted to move to whichever country I just visited. They would say, you want to move to every country you visit. LOL 😅 Well I found a beautiful country where I attended an annual festival, took photos with the locals and broke bread with the village leaders. I fell in love with Poland, in 2022. The Carefree Expat Incubator program has been very helpful with me finding my why? It continues to make me think deeper and keeps me accountable with my goals to move abroad to another country. I’m thinking about doing a 1 year mini retirement to France on a NLVisa. Spend extra time with my toddler, have an adventure, etc. thanks for these videos, they’re great!

I am a single woman in my late 50s hoping to make the move to France in two to five years from Florida so I devour your content. Wish it could be next month but I have obligations here at the moment. Patricia Brooks is brave, really brave, and very determined. Congrats to her. On the politics, I beg to differ. The major threat in France today is the extreme left, by a long shot. The level of intolerance the left has unleashed, especially since Oct 7, including antisemitism, is unparalleled. I'm fond of my culture and think France is still a beautiful country, but I worry about the extremism of the far left (and you know who I have in mind in particular, Adrian).

Ha -- I loved that you started in motion in Jan 2017 - that's when I got my Irish passport! Haven't used it to relocate yet -- but it makes me feel better to see it in the drawer!

Hello, wow Patricia had expressed exactly how I feel , everything she said is exactly all my thoughts about France. I was thinking of moving to Quebec as well but then the weather there is too cold and I studied French all my life since kindergarten and have never stop learning French although I am living in the US. I have tried to convince my husband and son to move but that will be impossible so now I need to decide as I am getting older and I want to live in France before I become too old. I have the same fear as Patricia as well , money and leaving my family, especially my son . I watched all the videos about France and learn French on a daily basis with youtube and I got so jealous about those people who are so lucky to get to move with their family and there are time I did not want to watch anymore videos cause I got so depress .

I have dreamed of living in France since I was a little kid and unfortunately my husband is so against moving abroad , he thinks France is expensive and he refused to listen to what I told him and I am so miserable living in the US ! so unhealthy, dangerous and work until you are 80, so sad

@@user-yn1kk6ri8p Have you considered the financial aspects of just hopping off to France. Pensions, what would you do for work. (which as a resident you would be taxed heavily with obligatory health and retirement funding on your part if you work as an independent or shared cost with employer if you could grab one of those low paying jobs in France). I have no idea what age you nor your finances but even if you worked for 10 years in France you would probably only have a monthly pension of less than 500€. And France doesn't pay. You might be lucky to make $2000 net a month but only in Paris and that will not get you anywhere. A person is considered rich in France when they make (in conversion) about $4000/ month net. It's a joke! Your husband is right when he says France is expensive because of the extremely low salaries and cost of living and you as a newcomer would not find a job so easily. How are you going to deal with administrations. You may think you speak French but you'll never really know until you experience the country. When I arrived here France was referred to as the most successful Soviet experiment in the West. I arrived in 77 when I was 24 and as soon as I had mastered the language I promised myself I would never be a salaried employee here. I have always worked for myself but my conditions were and are much different than yours would be. I have seen so many come and go from many nations. Bright eyed Americans with that can do spirit only to leave a few years later when they realized it didn't work out and lost a lot of money or take a much better paying job in another country. So please. You will not convince your husband nor son so consider your next move very carefully.. And you don't have to be sad about not living here. You can visit often. But see the real France. Wow, what incredibly powerful and critical responses: "What is the worst thing that could happen?" Answer: "Going back to the USA and getting a job." Also, Adrien said that her worst nightmare would be having to return to the US. Did anyone process what they said. Amazing.
