Denis villeneuve said the script for the third one is nearly done and the working title is DUNE: MESSIAH. And yes, he also added that he wants to take a break from this story and pursue other things before he can come back to it.

There is yet another chapter that is up in the air and depends on the 2nd movie being a box office hit in order to go ahead. Hopefully Part 2 is a big hit so we can get the final part of the trilogy.

@@1Fuss There is your cliffhanger, Paul going blind, but the story doesn't end there. Duncan returning in the third movie is also another story which can be hinted at in the cliffhanger for the 2nd movie. There is a lot of material in the third movie that can be built up at the end of the 2nd movie. A skilled director like Denis can create a cliffhanger to whet the appetite of new fans to Dune and make longtime Dune fans happy that storylines they know are going to make it to the 3rd film

What’s crazy is the budget for Part 2 is less than Part 1. Part 1 had a budget of $165 million, Part 2 has a reported budget of $122 million. Take notes Disney.

@@Noone91875No, it’s mostly miniatures and practical effects. The CG is used only to enhance, and where it’s needed. It’s not relied upon like most movies nowadays.

Children of Dune and beyond would take a lot more films, and I absolutely hope they make them all at least to God Emperor Dune. I think a break to let Timothee age a bit wouldn't hurt. He's suppossed to be much older in Children of Dune. At least 10-15 years.

I honestly believe that the Dune book series would be best told on TV. With the budgets that some of these shows have, Dune would have fit in perfectly. The world and characters are so fleshed out on the page, the TV series format is really the most proper way to tell the series.

About 19 years [spoiler for first 3 books follow] . . . . . Dune Messiah begins 12 years after the end of Dune, and at the beginning of Children of Dune the twins are 9 years old.

Without getting into real specifics, I am very curious if Denis will include the major "setback" that Paul and Chani experience in the book, because that always hit me really hard in the book, and will likely go a long way toward drawing the audience into the depth of their relationship.

With the last one my expectations are, every shot is going to look like a masterpiece. And it will be tied together with a killer score . Definitely finding the best screen in my area. Still a tad butt hurt it got pushed back .

I really feel from what they've shown we actually MIGHT be getting to the end of Dune's first book with Part 2. Denis supposedly has said he needs to take a break before continuing with Part 3, which to me says Part 3 is not only very possible but likely going to be based on Dune Messiah. I can't imagine he'd be okay with taking such a break unless Part 1 and 2 complete the story of the first book.

Part 3 was supposed to be Dine Messiah. Dune part 2 was always supposed to be the end of book 1, and based on the trailer, and the fact I’ve read the book about 6 times, it is.

@@jcs1025 This. This trailer shows the end of book 1. There isn't enough after the battle to extend book 1 into t a third film. part 3 will definitely be Dune Messiah, which was a shorter novel anyway. Though I have to wonder how Deni can do better than the SyFy messiah scene of the twins birth.

Villeneuve recently said he wants to make Messiah eventually and the script is almost done. This one finishes book one.

The main reasons he wants to wait to do "Messiah" is twofold. 1) He's already signed on to other projects after Dune Part 2 is done, and 2) he wants the main actors (Timothee, Zendaya, Pugh, etc.) to age up a bit more since there is a significant time jump between "Dune" and "Messiah".

This definitely is the end of the first Dune book as the scenes in the trailer happen at the very end of the book. I too read the book a few times and undoubtedly one scene in particular only happens at/near the end of Book 1.

He's just finishing the script to part 3. He is shooting part 3 but after a break. A break is needed as the 2nd book (will be done in one film) is set 10 years later.

I’m actually a big fan of the original movie, I even own the 4 hour version. It was made way before it’s time, people weren’t ready for it. The score by Brian Eno and the rock band ToTo is Epic, a quintessential Science Fiction Soundtrack in my opinion. And the cast at the time, A Stellar Cast with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood at the time.

Agree - the '84 version is a bit cheesy and dated, but very underrated. And, to be honest, I was a little disappointed with the delivery of "silence!" slap-down in this trailer ... Kyle MacLachlan's delivery was much more convincing. You can really feel how powerful Paul has become.

While I still won't watch any trailers (or reactions to them, sorry, but I'll like the video anyway), I already have the day off work to catch the first screening of this in IMAX. And, if word of a re-release of Part One in IMAX is true, then the plan is to re-watch Part One again in IMAX the night before seeing Part Two. As an old af guy who grew up with Star Trek, who had his DNA rearranged seeing the original release of Star Wars, and then have been there for pretty much every major sci-fi release to date, AND who had the "Dune" book as a teenager but couldn't get through it and never read past the very beginning of it, Part One just blew me away to the point where I would throw every other franchise in the trash forever (well, film franchise, I would have to keep "Firefly" for TV) and only keep "Dune". I full expect Part Two to make it a Grand Slam for Denis, on the heels of Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and Dune: Part One. We'll just have to wait and see if he does Part 3 (he says the script is basically finished) next, or if he takes a break and does another film in between.

Personally I think it would be too much for just one person to go into the next chapters. The next stories might not have the popular appeal that the first Dune story. It get deep and weird.

No, it isn't just you. Everyone should look up John Schoenherr's paintings and drawings for the magazine appearance for Prophet of Dune and Dune Messiah. Schoeherr was one of the best illustrators of SF.

It's unlikely they continue the story at least in cinemas. Maybe a series. The story gets weird. Like, really, really weird. Even with Dennis Villenueve's masterful work with this first chapter, it's struggling to find an audience. The next chapters are going to have an even harder time finding an audience.

Did he say that this looks better that the original dune which came out about 50 years ago!?that's the most KZfaqr comment ever! Of course with the modern technology and filmmaking process you'd expect it too....I know certain KZfaqrs weren't alive but try to comprehend things outside your world view of maybe things weren't as advanced as they are now. 60 years from now people probably be looking at this tech now and laughing

I enjoyed the first one but was disappointed at a few of the changes, ommisions from the book. For example dropping the iconic line "mood is for cattle and women" when Paul says he is not in the mood to practice. But the worst is when Stilgar meets Leto and spits on the floor. In the book it is Paul who realizes it is a sign of respect and saves the day. It is a crucial signal that he emmerging as something new and more than what he was. They just tossed that whole thing out in the movie. Sad

Dune 1 was beautiful, but hella boring. I don't understand the casting of Timothee in it. He feels shoehorned into the franchise for his beautiful jaw line and locks.. that's the only thing I can think of. He's a good actor, but was horribly miscast (in my opinion). He's burdened with the syndrome of the chosen one 😂😂😂😂. If you disagree, please list reasons why he's perfect in the role, 'cause i honestly can't see any. don't just at me with " he's amazing and you're wrong". I need details, I need explanations. He looks dead in the character, adds no flavour to it, zero personality and zero emotional depth. Mamoa is just.....Mamoa and Zendaya wasn't given much to work with. Goodness me. I have no good think to say about it besides it was beautiful 🤷🏾♂️

Every shot looks brown and grey and blurry. Colorless, same as Dune 1, Wonka, The Batman, Napoleon, and every modern movie. What crap. Villeneuve sold out :(
