I received my 150-600 zoom lens three weeks and and was just able to test it out today (03/21/24). First impression is "wow" and the quality appears great. Looking forward to using it extensively. First big project is the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, the primary reason I purchased this lens.

As a disabled person who loves photography, equipment weight is paramount and this lens at over 2kg is far to heavy and not one I could even think about using.

Disappointed with the price, and the weight of the 150-600mm at over 2kg what were they thinking. I’ve just sold my Sony A9 and the 200-600mm that is over 2kg to come to a M4/3 because the system WAS lighter… then, you stick a lens weighing same as my old Sony 200-600mm that I just got rid of, OM SYSTEMS - have you lost the plot?

You can't be thinking if you thought 150-600mm could be anything else. If you don't need 600mm of reach in M4/3's then that lens is not for you. Simples!

The equivalent to your 200-600mm Sony lens is the 40-150 zoom with 2x TC. That weighs less and is smaller and costs less and has a wider zoom range. Or even the 100-400 zoom which has a longer reach at 200-800mmFFE. What does the Sony 300-1200 zoom look like? Hmm, I don't think they have one.

Are you forget that in M4/3 sensor, the 150-600 will look like 300-1200 in your Sony.

@@johnathanlo7636 But it will weigh the same too, my ownership experience of the Sony A9 with the Sony 200-600mm using 1.4x and Sony DX setting, even reducing the image to 11mp will still be superior IQ and less noise than the OM Systems kit so where’s the benefit for me 🤷‍♂️

@@alangauld6079 I’m sorry but you’re wrong… Sony 600mm with 1.4x and using the Sony DX mode will give almost 1200mm, granted only 11mp but it will be a superior IQ to OM-1 even at 11mp. I have hundreds of such photos… the whole reason for me moving to M4/3 was to go lighter. And for the most part it is, that is until this new 150-600mm lens. The other thing is one can buy the Sony 200-600 + 1.4x and still have change from the price of the new OM systems 150-600mm.

To OM System: Disappointed with the modified full frame optical design that results in the bigger size and heavier weight than otherwise necessary. Also disappointed with the high price tag if the intention was to minimize the lens's R&D costs. The actual lens performance may salvage some of those and we have to wait and see when actual tests come out. Would your superb 150-400mm f/4.5 be the last great Olympus (or OM Systems) lens, a more convenient birding and wildlife alternative to another great 300mm f/4? At least, as a bona fide M4/3 lens with excellent construction and image quality, it's hard for anyone to complain about the even higher price tag.

Thanks for your feedback. Product introduction is always a balance of time/cost/viability. We have been aware of a demand from many who could not afford the 150-400 price especially in the birding world. This lens has had some tremendous feedback in terms of overall quality - especially at 600mm. Pushing for ultra compactness can come at the expense of quality so that was one consideration. It is prices between the very competitive 100-400mm and the 150-400mm and simply offers something that no other system can as things stand

Next lens needs to be a 12-75mm f/2.8 with IS.

I had the opportunity to shoot birds in Panama, similar conditions to Costa Rica. Most of the time in the thick forest I didn't even use a TC with my 300F4, not enough light. Sorry but a TC on a 6.3 lens would be useless in these conditions.

Did you shoot with the OM-1? I shoot with OM-1 moving wild life with up to ISO 12800 and remove noise flawlessly with Topaz Denoise AI. That's exactly the gear I always wanted.

Yes I use the OM1 and some lots of shots were at ISO 12800 at F4 in the deep forest. I do not go above 12800. I use Topaz as well.@@robertfrank9168

Thank you for your feedback. The lens is not for everyone - we have many others. If excellent reach at a price, size and weight far lower than the equivalent in most bigger systems is what you are looking for - this is for you .

Light weight... Hahaha The Panasonic 100-400, F4.0-6.3 is less than 1000g.

Yes and our 100-400 weighs less than the new lens too. As ever these things need to be taken into perspective. To gain this angle of view on larger systems would be a lot heavier.
