My husband was pickpocketed in Paris as we were out doing some window shopping in the 1st arrondisement. He always carried a shouder bag, medium sized and zipped shut of course but someone managed to open it in passing him and helped himself to what he probably thought was money. When we got to our hotel in the Place Vendome he saw that the bag had been unzipped and the inner compartment was also unzipped. What had been removed from there was his cardiogram!!! I bet the thief thought it was a handful of Euros and of course he then made off only to discover a cardiogram. Serves him right!

I was in Paris once and thankfully I'd heard of this trick so I was prepared. A young girl came up to me asking me to sign a petition, however she wasn't speaking just gesturing to her clip board. So I read this top and it read, in English that she was deaf and dumb and therefore was collecting money for the charity. I said 'I don't understand because I don't speak French' this confused her because it was written in English, not French, so she starting speaking 'just sign and please give money'. To which I shouted 'you're speaking, it's a miracle'. Her little group of girls all looked shocked at me and it made other tourist that they were trying to entice look and know it was a scam.

Thx 4 raising awareness. The last story reminds me of in Barcelona, two guys on a motorocycle tapped on our car window to tell us we had a flat tire, so we parked. They parked next to us, one helped us with the tire, the other went in the car and robbed our stuff. Then they both fled. They had actually slashed the tire themselves when we were at a red light.

Great advice. Mine would be to never take the metro if you can walk, or share a cab with someone else. I was nearly pickpocketed on the metro in Paris the other day, but felt the hand in my pocket and shouted at him to get his hand away. Boy was he shocked when I also shouted out to everyone in the carriage that he was a thief and a pickpocket!

I’m in paris right now, someone got my wallet and someone else tried to take my phone literally right out of my hands last night. Insane here!

This was an eye opener for me....now I understand Paris isn't the safest place all of us think it is. When I go there I'll definite wear a money belt and tuck my money as well as my phone in it. Thanks for telling us what to watch out for!

I’ve never been pickpocketed, maybe because I dress in dark colors and very European, I am quiet and suffer from resting b*tch face Syndrome, and coming from a third world country, I am paranoid about getting mugged/robbed anyways but that doesn’t mean I am immune to it. Paris is so amazing but these stories are so sad, they tarnish the experience for everyone after all.

My husband and I decided years ago that it is definitely worth it to take a taxi from CDG into the city after a long overnight flight. You are smart to Uber or taxi from the airport!

Not sure if others are aware that a cross body is only good enough if you have your hands on it all the time. I always used cross body and never carried anything in the purse of value. as that was elsewhere on my body. What I did not know is a knife can cut the strap and one pull without stopping they had my purse. Ever since that day i realize that if I had fought in anyway i could have been stabbed. That was a scary moment. They do make purses with steel wires in the strap that makes it impossible to cut without your awareness. I swear as many ways as we try to protect ourselves pick pockets have invented yet another ply to rip you off. Thanks as they are every where these days

can you put a decoy in your back pocket decoy wallet with fake cards and use anti theft bag with rfid blocking Slash resistant straps and use a padlock on your bag

OMG! Im only 5:34 mins in and I am blown away at the audacity of the guy that tried to punch you in the face. That is insane . Imagine him being mad that you weren't ok with his mom stealing your belongings..........

I met a lady getting off a train who had her purse slit open by a utility knife. Luckily, the blade got stuck in a paperback book she had in there and he could not get the knife out and ran. She scored herself a box cutter.

New sub~yes the violation would be traumatizing. I went to Paris in 2005 (totally different time/era. I had a flip phone I think, no lap top w/ me) Pointless to even bring the phone--no cell service. I got approached at the airport, my husband was looking at something and he is a big guy (we are divorced now) he saw what was happening and the guy took off. I had my purse next to my body and zipped-- the guy never got that close, and he wanted to have me go with him--it was creepy. A few years later I saw Taken...I was younger at the time...yikes. Who really knows I did not wear my wedding engagement ring to France because I was warned about pit pockets and thieves who will rip your ring off your finger...I am tall too 5'9 and I always thought this stopped people--but I have listened to another one of your videos I guess not--my Grandma use to travel and sew money into her bra ( it wasn't the digital age) it was an emergency fund in case she got robbed. This video was disheartening to hear. Sorry for you and your friend--all those people. Shame on those pit pockets--karma. It will happen to them--some lifetime. Thank you for the video.

My mobile phone got picked pocketed in Paris. I never got robbed in Chicago or NY.

Hearing about these stories makes me cringe. I spent the first two and half weeks of this month in Paris. I used the Roissy bus, RER and Metro quite often and am glad non of these incidents happened to me. To think that at one point i had over 2000 Euro in the Metro/RER/Bus makes me feel so lucky. The only time i became suspicious about pickpockets in Paris was at CDG where these old lady with her "daughters" asked me to contribute towards needy children. The close distance between us made me act fast hold my hand laguage tight in the front and quickly moved away from them.

I think the best investment I ever made was… zippered pockets in my underwear! Also Baggilini purses with clips at the bottom to clip my wallet and purse. Stay safe out there!

Anti-theft infinity scarves with a secret zipper pocket is a life saver for when you need easy access to your things. Put your phone and valuables in there while on the metro!! Also: I'm trying to imagine what kind of person one would need to be or how desperate one needs to be to risk the wrath of a person they're robbing! Seems like a very good way to get killed!

I got a locked sling and locked luggage but if you are a tourist and need to look things up on your phone, I’m guessing you’re totally screwed?

Someone who considered himself a pro at pickpocketing showed me his techniques long time ago, and I thought it would only work on naive or drunk people. I also thought "this explains why the French got screwed naturalizing its own enemies.
