As a self taught drummer who's been basically winging it and learning by ear for 25 years I've found from your lessons that I was actually doing a lot of things 90% correct. Your lessons have quickly made that 10% that was missing into 3% missing from my need to practice more often. I wish KZfaq and Dr. Beatdown had been available in the early 90s when I decided to play. Thanks for all you do Dr. Beatdown and the rudiment shirt not only looks good on this guy, but it's a super helpful practice aid when left on a hangar in front of me.

I was a nice self taught drummer in the 80s. I could keep a nice beat even played in some money making bands. Stopped drumming in 86. 32 years later. I got a drum kit. Had no Idea what a shuffle, ghost notes or types of rolls or that drills even existed. Well I’m listening and damn Soooo much good stuff to learn. Where would I be if I would have learned a few things earlier in life. I couldn’t even do a proper roll. But Oh! There are many type rolls 😂. I’m 61 and learning and about to purchase the drummer for hire t shirt for support.Thank you Dr. Beat Down Brown.

I started playing in the late 80s but I'm like u I thought myself everything except when I was 10 a guy showed me a 4/4 beat and I took off thinking I was a decent drummer until I watched Rob the first time and I was blown away by what I was missing and how many things I had right already. I play the guitar and bass too and these videos have helped tighten up my playing on those instruments too.

What am I doing right now?? I *already* have my sticks out, ready to go, of course! lol As a righty, learning open versus closed strokes/multibounce, and good clean rolls, drags and accented notes on my left hand, have been crucial. Still working at it as always, and these exercises are great for that! Phenomenal playing and demonstrations, Rob! Thanks for being a great educator! Happy drumming, everyone!

Been in a process of convincing myself to learn (read: PRACTICE) ghost notes. Being a rock/metal self taught guy, I've been hunting for a really simplified way to apply the concept...BAM! Pretty sure I just found it! In addition to being a super informative lesson, on a fundamental "tool" to add to the kit, I really like how there is no stopping, no filler, just one lesson after the other, a little jam, and now go practice! It's getting harder and harder to watch "instructional" clips without leaving early. Thanks for both!

Hi Rob! Big fan from India, I have just begun drumming and although I have a tutor your videos are just helping me perfectly with the rudiments. Love the workout videos especially. My coach is only concerned about my speed, and you my friend have taught me the importance of control before anything. Can't thank you enough for your efforts. Can you please make workout videos of paradiddle , five stroke roll as well? I'm trying to learn paradiddle but cannot do it with a fluidity. Please help. Thanks once again.

the depth ghost notes can take your beat to are invaluable. I don't consider myself any sort of a talented musician. I just punch away on my akai. I really appreciate this video regardless of my skill level. I've always wanted to learn many musical instruments. piano is on my agenda these days. just wanna rock like Billy Preston or Billy Joel. but in the mean time I'll continue on with reason. thanks for the video it was very informative and the camera angles made it really easy to understand.

Question...Do you use a change of position on the impact point of the snare head at all, (along with the dynamic change)?...I've often moved the stick off center a bit to get that 'ring' from my snare (using a 1989 Brady Jarrah ply snare - 5mm shell). Your snare is a terrific sounding bit of kit btw!

Rob, Back checking this video out again (reviewing your info, great stuff!) and wondered if you could make a $90 snare sound as good dynamically ... with the ghosting to be precise ... quiet but accurate ghost notes. The shell of this one makes the accent sound like a gunshot and seriously increases the dynamic range. I would like to suggest that the notation be kept on the screen when you are playing. Plenty of room on the screen not to interfere with a little bit of magic ...
