Here's how I used a simple mono room mic to define the character of the snare sound in this mix.
This mono room track was a major factor in the drum sound, and you'll see the simple trick I used to bring out the snare ambience more than the rest of the kit in the mic.

Was thinking about trying a mono room mic on an upcoming project. Set in strone now. Really like what you did with that gate... very interesting and I'm gonna nic it! 😁Brought a shotgun type of tone to the snare for my ears. Almost sounded like you put a short plate on it with a gate. That woulda been my first guess. Good job! Say no to samples though! 😖 Thanks for the vids!

Thank you! I actually do fake room mic with a room reverb (bedroom musician with fake drums in a laptop :D). But I feel like your approach might work with my way of doing things. I was low passing too harshly - all the way to 2k-4k. Also, I noticed this video is smoother than your other videos. Bumped up frame rate? Loving it.

If you're using something like Kontakt drums there can often be a room sound that you can print and expand similarly, too

Why is your mouse moving so smoothly? Because of 60fps? How do you record your screen?

You can use OBS to record the screen, and for audio routing you can use VoiceMeeter Banana to get both mic audio and DAW audio. There's a tutorial on KZfaq somewhere.
