Thanks for joining me on this tour of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport! Today's tour covers the world's 4th busiest airport in 2020 and home to American Airlines. This mammoth airport personifies its state like no airport could, but even at such an incredible size, we still have to get around it!
Dallas Fort Worth's five terminals host hundreds of destinations for American Airlines and 27 other airlines, and connect tens of thousands of air travelers each and every day. Many of its international routes have also returned in the wake of the pandemic, making DFW a worldwide travel center once again.
See each and every terminal, how to get around, and where to find what you need during your time at DFW!
I do a lot of original research while preparing these videos, so please leave a comment below if you have questions about the tour or navigating the airport, and I'll do my best to answer them! Or, share your own thoughts and experiences about DFW!
Finally, let me know where you'd like to see next! Stay tuned for new flight and airport videos every two weeks!
Please travel safely!

DFW is on the northern county line of Dallas and Tarrant Counties, just halfway between both core cities of the Metroplex. I like how the airport was placed back in the '60s and '70s when it was constructed at that time.

This is about as slim as connections get these days, but the airline designs them to be doable. The people mover gets you from one side of the airport to the other in 10 minutes at the most, and it's usually a 5 minute walk at most from the gate you land and the Skylink station. You'll likely arrive at your gate during the boarding process.

I love this airport, probably the best engineered airport of all. The way the separate each terminal but yet have each one connected still by the Skylink. It's just ingenious. This airport even though it's got a competitor in Dallas. This airport by far makes the process of getting through checking, TSA, and really smooth. Foot traffic in each terminal is little to none depending on which day. But even on busier days foot traffic still flows immaculately. Now once you get to the gates it can be bad traffic wise But overall, It's crazy how well things flow here at DFW International.

@MilesByFoot
@MilesByFoot 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't visit the corporate aviation terminal so I decided not to cover those. I imagine most folks flying a small airline will do a bit more research than the average traveler (I made the same call with the JSX connections between HOU and DAL earlier in the trip.) It's really difficult to keep airports cool. Lots of people, they're built over hot tarmac, and there's no shade. Can't have the planes hitting trees! Airport authorities and engineers have to work extra hard to keep things cool, especially in a city as hot as Dallas. Sometimes it works better than others! Even my love for airports starts to wear down after a long layover. This particular tour of Dallas was after a marathon visit of my own; I think I was there for 10 hours this time.

I'm wondering about the actual check in process. Do you still have to remove your shoes? Also I'm having a hard time figuring out where and how to park for a few days while I'm away. Would you make video about that process if allowed? Thank you
@MilesByFoot
@MilesByFoot Жыл бұрын
After hearing from several commenters like yourself, I think there'd be some value to a video like that; thanks for your input! Most passengers are still required to remove their shoes when going through the TSA screening process, with the exception of young children or seniors over 75. If you sign up with TSA's Precheck program, I believe you don't have to remove your shoes, as well. If you're speaking specifically about DFW's parking situation, I might recommend the airport's website, which will give information on parking, as well as off-site lots that may offer a lower cost parking solution, but include a bit more of a hassle, such as a shuttle.

@MilesByFoot

You don't have to take the SkyLink; A and B are connected through an airside walkway that crosses the central road at DFW. However, it's almost certainly faster, especially if you're in low-numbered A gates (A20 or lower) or high-numbered B gates (B20 or higher). The higher your B gate, the farther you'll have to walk to get to A, and the lower your A gate, the farther you'll have to walk to get to B.

hi i had a question on parking where should i do long term parking as i’m going out of country for a week and my flight is from terminal D should i do a terminal garage parking? or the north end parking like which is better thank you
@MilesByFoot
@MilesByFoot Жыл бұрын
Generally, the farther you are from the terminal, the cheaper the parking. Terminal parking will be the most expensive, but most convenient option with the shortest walking distances to the terminal. Like many big airports, you can reserve a parking spot ahead of time on DFW's website, which can save you money and time. At DFW, all terminals are connected past security by a people mover, so where you park doesn't matter as much as it might at other airports. If you're not flying on American (you can check in at Terminals A - D for them), you can take a free landside shuttle to Terminal D to check in; just allow an extra 15-20 minutes if you use a parking garage. As of now, you can park in the Terminal D parking lot, which runs about $13/day if you pre-order online ($91/week), while you can park in the Terminal A parking garage's "saver" section for around $9/day ($64/week). You can also reserve remote lot parking, too, where you take a shuttle from the lot to the terminal, and they run between $5 - $9/day. When parking remotely, allow 20-30 minutes extra to get to the terminal. DFW also offers off-site, independent parking with shuttles, which can be even cheaper!

1st September I will fly from DFW to Narita Tokyo, but on my ticket paper. It is not written which terminal I should to go. Just say 'not available' What terminal do I have to go to. Can anyone help? 😀 I'm very nervous. Because this is my first time for me
@MilesByFoot
@MilesByFoot 11 ай бұрын
It depends on what airline you're flying, but it appears that the only nonstop service to Narita is on American. If that's the case, you'll *very* likely be in Concourse D. It's not a certainty, but every flight to Narita from DFW in the last month departed from Concourse D. The aircraft used is a Boeing 787, which is large enough they can only fit it at certain gates, which makes it easier to be confident!

@MilesByFoot

They're not in the same building, but if they're on the same airline and the flights go to similarly sized airports, they are likely close together. Even if your connecting flight is in another terminal, the airside train can get you to any terminal in just a few minutes.

You can't go past the TSA checkpoint without a boarding pass for an outbound flight. They can meet you right outside of the checkpoint or on the curb. Just make sure you know which terminal they're landing in!

Any information for handicapped seniors to get around the airport and bring their luggage?
@MilesByFoot
@MilesByFoot 2 жыл бұрын
The Skylink between terminals is wheelchair accessible and can be reached by elevator, and within the terminals, there are motorized courtesy vehicles that can take you around, like the one you see at 3:13. These can all be arranged through American, if that's who you're flying, either ahead of time (my recommendation) or from the check-in desks. If you're connecting here, you can also request them when you land from the gate agent, but allow quite a bit of extra time to transit when you do this (45-60 minutes extra, I'd say, especially during peak traffic times.) Check as much baggage as possible; I wouldn't bring more than a backpack or purse with you. The spaces between gates are huge, so I'd recommend courtesy vehicles for anyone with mobility concerns.

One big airport to another big airport! If you're flying American Airlines, you can use Terminal A, B, or C, head inside, then check your luggage with an airline agent if you have any you can't carry with you. While you can do this with an agent, you can also use an automated kiosk. I'd recommend an agent for your first time :) After checking your bag, head to the TSA checkpoint beyond the check-in area. The TSA agent will need to see your ID and your boarding pass (or the QR code on your phone). Once they've verified your documents, you'll head to a line where you'll place everything you're carrying in plastic bins to be scanned by an x-ray machine to make sure nothing you're carrying is dangerous. This is pretty extensive, so you'll need to empty your pockets, take off your shoes, jewelry, and sometimes even your belt. I always chew gum when I fly, and it'll even pick up a gum wrapper in my pocket if I forget! Large electronics like tablets, game consoles, and laptops need to be taken out of the backpack, suitcase, or grocery bag you're carrying it in and put in its own bin to go through the machine. You can't carry large liquid containers through security, nothing over 3 oz (empty containers are fine). To earn extra brownie points, put any liquids you do have in a clear Ziploc bag and run them through the x-ray machine separately. Once you're clean, a TSA agent will have you walk through a special machine which scans your body for dangerous items. Just hold your hands above your head, elbows out to the side while it does its thing. The TSA agent may need to wave their magic wand (a handheld scanner) around your body if the scanner detected something unusual. If you have medical devices in your body, like a metal plate or a pacemaker, it's a good idea to tell the agent if you're selected for additional screening. This whole security process is pretty short, about 10 minutes plus waiting in line. Thankfully, DFW has.lots of small security checkpoints so long lines are less of an issue. Once you've cleared security, you'll exit into the airside part of DFW. You can now move freely between all of DFW's gates, restaurants, shops, and the people mover. For your first time flying, I'd say plan to arrive at the airport three hours before your flight. Once you're more comfortable, you can slim this down a bit. Your airline app will tell you what gate your flight is, and there are monitors throughout the airport, sorted by destination, that are good, too. When in doubt, use the monitors. Be at your gate 45 minutes before your flight; boarding usually starts 20-30 minutes before departure, and will be boarded in groups. Check your boarding pass to make sure you know which group you're in. I hope this helped! Check out some of my flight experience videos to see what it's like on board and in the air!

@@camillemorgan2393 if you only have a personal item, you don't need to go to a gate agent or kiosk, even, if you've already checked in for your flight. If you checked in online or via your airline's app, you can get a mobile copy of your boarding pass on your phone. If you do, you can go straight to the TSA checkpoint as soon as you arrive at the airport, no agent or kiosk needed!
