So, why was the check made out to her and not a two-party check to her and her body shop? It’s to protect the finance company because they technically own the vehicle!

@@calvthomas6153 that’s what they always do. Have you ever seen a car on the road beat up and crappy looking like they got in a terrible accident? The insurance company makes checks out to the person who wins the claim and sends it in their name. Then they have a choice if they want to use it to fix the car or not. When a lady hit me and was found at fault, they sent me $300. I never took it to the body shop😬. It was not that big of a deal to get fixed, but no matter what she was in the wrong, damage was done and I had the option to take it in or keep the money. I think it’s fair that they do it this way. The defendant was just a hot mess and greedy!

I would have not been able to cash the check or even deposit it in my account. I saw another comment on here from a an ins adjuster who confirmed this.

But everyone I’ve ever known just got a check in their name. I live in Florida, not a rural area; public transit is not widely available here at all - and chances of anything in walking distance paying enough for rent + car + car insurance is slim to none (let alone add ubers). Its pretty acknowledged that the USA was built around needing an automobile and a discussed problem particularly in adding to the poverty cycle.

You would be surprised when they say there is no bus in their big city neighborhood. I have one, not dependable, but it is there, for I do not drive.

It’s possible to be friends with an ex. Not every relationship has to end horribly. I own a house with my ex. We live together. Have four dogs together and date other people. I live upstairs he lives downstairs. We have our own master baths but we share the kitchen dining room etc

Oh no! My mom co-signed for me and I never missed a payment in all the 6 years it took to pay it off. My mom respects me because of that and I can ask for anything. Even when I got laid off a few times, I paid her the car note first out of my unemployment. That’s a trust you never want to break especially because parents will do anything for their kids because they love them. I hope she does better as she gets older.
