I admit it.. I have been bitten by the speed bug. There is so much to know and learn.. and I'm enjoying every moment of it. This is the MCD 4WD XS5 Max FT-R I got from www.CardinalRacing.com. I know I am a "beginner" with these larger on road vehicles, but I have a few years of RC under my belt.. so I thought I would dive right in.. and have some fun.
I outfitted this car with a GPS unit from SKYRC.. that records its PEEK speed onboard. I have also installed an MGM Controllers TMM 40063-3 for Cars X2-SERIES PRO 500 AMP (63V capable) Electronic Speed Controller, paired with a LEHNER 3080 sensored, brushless motor - Both Capable of 15s Lipo. That is insane.
ESC: www.mgm-controllers.com/tmm-4...
Motor: www.mgm-controllers.com/en/se...
I am learning on 8S lipo.. and tuning the car after each run. There is so much to comprehend.. I am looking forward to installing a proper, high grade Gyro System to help keep the car straight at higher speeds on an uneven surface.
I am using a Reefs RC "Beast 2000" Steering Servo, delivering just under 2000oz of torque at 12v, and over 2000oz at 14.8 volts. I got this servo at www.ReefsRC.com !
Lets get into some deets:
The XS5 MAX is designed with a 1:1 scale realism of a mid-engine supercar. We developed the XS5 Max with advanced modelling techniques. Sophistication and refinement were the main inspiration keywords while creating the body. Sculpted twisting lateral surfaces gliding from the front to the back both vertically and horizontally creating a dynamic design language. Styling features such as wide muscular fenders, low roof-line and vertical head lamps help forming a powerful stance. Besides styling works a special effort was put on the aerodynamics of the body to create a balanced down-force on the front and on the back to keep control on the ground for dynamic cornering.

love it! regarding the toe settings. this is the only way it goes. toe out in the rear = overstear an instability. toe out on the front = over stear and instability. to maximise stability. sett sligt toe in on rear. then sett more and more toe in on front until the car is stable. toe angle also pulls from negative toward possitive while accelerating. hope this helps. keep the vids coming, they are gold!

Hi dude, usually a bit of toe out actually reduces steering twitchiness and helps keep the car going in a straight line.

@ald3nt3
@ald3nt3 2 жыл бұрын
that sounds wrong. Toe out gives more oversteer in corners (your inner wheel steers more into the corner) but reduces straight line stability, whilst toe in gives more straigth line stability and reduces responsiveness of the car That's why RWD prefers toe in for increased stability and FWD prefers toe out for increased responsiveness

Should get foam tires, though I'm not sure if they make them for 1/5 scale. Foam tires have way more grip than rubber. You are correct, toe in makes it more stable, but at the sacrifice of amount of steering (though you still turned down dual rate so it obviously wasn't a problem). You typically see toe out more on drift cars. Great video, can't wait to see you smash 100kph!

Thanks for sharing. That thing drives with authority! Now, I too, will share what I have learned about these magnificent little vehicles and their geometry. What needs to be understood is this is a c-hub car, and it will exhibit a positive scrub radius by nature. This is WHY under acceleration, the front end will twist into toe in. C-hub cars also tend to turn the vehicle under power very well due to this force. However, under breaking, the front will twist into toe out. It is mostly agreed upon that toe in will make the car more stable and track straighter under hard acceleration, so this is why many suggest to give a degree of toe in (I use calipers to ensure turnbuckle lengths match) Now here's my main point: by contrast, pillow ball geometry (arrma) will have a negative scrub radius and basically do everything that I just explained, but opposite. The rear end of pbs cars tend to dominate steering, and this is why they power slide oh so well. Now, if one is more accustomed to driving something like an infraction or felony on road, it is going to take some major adjustment on the driver's part to get a handle on this c-hub car. Like you said, the main factor right now in improving the handling of the setup is going to be more wheel time. It helps me to think about the physics of these forces when tuning my cars. Hope it helps you in some way, too.

As someone who's never done speed runs I'll say that you seem to be fairly close to a good setting already. As an ex professional tire fitter I can tell you that too much toe in is not good for a all wheel drive. If the front wheels are parallel at standstill, they will naturally toe in a little when they start to drive, depending on how much slack is in the steering etc. More so in a FWD car. The eventual effect is to make the steering vague and liable to wash out from understeer. The fronts pull against the weight of the vehicle, and will try to rotate forwards on the kingpin. Yes there is some "push" from a 4x4's rear wheels, (that obviously a pure FWD car doesn't get) which kind of stabilizes and, mm, yeah, partly negates the effect at the front, but it's swings and roundabouts. So, if you can measure the toe angle, and because this is scaled down, I'd say do not have more than half of one degree toe in if the setup is free of slack. I know this is not 100% helpful, but it's just to give you some ideas. 😁👍

Just out of curiosity, do you all have any really big parking lots that you could use for the speed runs so you wouldn't have to worry about hitting trees or sliding off the road and messing up that beautiful car

Nope. Literally. Also - No one really understand how large this car is.. Im literally crossing a football field in 12 seconds at this speed already

Maybe paint it to look like lightning McQueen. Either way it looks bloody incredible! Goes even better! You are one lucky man.

Damn so close to 100!!! That was pretty great right there, little surprised that it took that wipe out like a champ but bigger should be stronger right? Way to go tho, almost there and then what's the next barrier to break?

I may have missed it but what is your goal speed?

Nice runs . The stock wing looks great but you need race style massive downforce for on road RC cars IMO and experience . It really needs to push down your suspension compensatory to your speed . Aerodynamics are also important when your trying to do several hundreds of MPH in scale .
@TheRealRCSparks

Yes, I achieved 300 mph in scale today

Personally I have a little toe out on the front for speed runners. It looks like your rears have toe in like most rc's so toe in on the front aswel will make twitchy. Next time you go out take a wrench so you can adjust it after each run 👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

She seems to be pulling to one side under power. Perhaps you can adjust the steering trim
@CallHerJEM

Yep. That’s what we do offline. No one wants to actually see the nitty gritty of every adjustment. We want it to drive straight too.

Awesome rc, you can also turn down your Steering Sensitivity (expo) to help with high speed passes 👍🏻 Good first test run, what potential it has 💯

I know what you mean. That RC is next level. It needs a wide road or large car park to drive on 👍🏻

Looks like this beast will be a tuff one. Once car pulls one side on throttle and the other on brake, makes it hard to get it right. Reminds me of the traxxas xo-1

Im by no means a professional in the speed run area either, toe it out slightly and see how the car drives. I think you may find it less twitchy. Love the build Medic. Long time subscriber here

As per Forza tuning tips: Toe out will help with straight line stability, toe in will help it corner, at the sacrifice of straight line stability.

I don't know if you have a gyro on the car? But, it looks like you definitely should have one in it. It should give you more stability at high speed.
