Everyone’s journey and reason for getting locs is different. Instant loc is a journey of its own. People should not judge but rather embrace the growth of the community.

As someone with mature instant locs, I gotta say it is 100% still a journey. I really dislike this new ‘cheating’ narrative, because throughout my whole journey I never really considered my journey any different. I still had the ugly stage, and all the different stages everyone else had too. Instant locs were just most affordable for me, and I wanted an influence to how they would turn out. But as a semi-freeformer, my locs have truly grew into their own shape and style. Its so crazy the foundation I made for myself nearly 3 years ago has allowed for my current locs to prosper, and to be able to see the changes as they happened. I feel like people saying it’s cheating are just trying to be divisive. They are just another way of starting the journey, not a shortcut to mature locs.

For people who say it’s cheating: Should disabled people who can’t maintain continue to keep up their comb coils or two stand twists in the starter phase not have locs? I didn’t want to shave my head. I have long covid. I could no longer maintain my afro so I got instant locs, yes because I like them, but also because I can’t always maintain my hair. I think people don’t often think about the reasons why disabled people do the things they do. It’s not always because of convenience or because we want something instantly. Some people need modifications so that we can take care of ourselves. With the muscle soreness, fatigue, aches- I can’t do long wash days anymore. Whether that’s with natural loose hair or with locs. Just not possible for me. But I also know not everyone is disabled. But some people are. I think people should just mind their business and not make assumptions 🤷🏽 My instant locs are changing, but it just doesn’t fully unravel during the started loc phase. Much easier to maintain. I think my preferred method would have been two stand twists but I’m happy with what I have and am embracing it 😌

I think I would have tried instant locs if I knew someone who offered that service. When I wanted to get locs , no one I knew was taking new clients so I started my locs with two strand twists. Best decision ever. So proud of me!

I started w instant locs my first set and went thru all the stages, the only difference was that it was more uniform (ie. the whole loc started budding at once instead of lil bulges) and I didn’t realize it until I went back and looked at those old pictures. Same journey, just diff look.

This was a very good point of view. I think everyone should do what they think is right for their own individual journey. I thought about starting my locs with instant locs because I have a loose curl pattern and I thought it was going to take forever for my hair to begin the locking process. I eventually decided against it because I wanted my locs to form however they wanted to and I wanted to watch them as they changed and came into their own.

I had about 3 inches of new growth and 4 inches of heat damage i instant loced my hair because i did not want to cut my length nor did i think i would be able to maintain it having two young kids and a full job and business always moving! Lifestyle played a part. Now 1 month in i love my locs less time worring about a style.

Hello, I love this channel I watch you often holistic flo your channel is very soothing, and very informative. I have been on my journey for three years as of October 15 of this year 2023. I have enjoyed the journey. I know it ties my hair looked at a little suspicious but I didn’t care because I was in it for the long run. I had no intentions of doing instant locks, because I really wanted to experience what happens to your hair. When you take this journey I wanna see everything that my particular head would put out and show me in its maturation. My hair is locked at this point in time. And I absolutely love it. Those who did not, or were confused at the beginning of this journey are no longer in looking at me like I have lost my mind, and that they really didn’t like the way I was looking in those suspicious moments, lol. Now I’m getting all the admiration of my hair and what it looks like now, as opposed to what it look like when I began the journey. Thank you for explaining how you thought about the instant loc situation. I have no opinion one way or the other about it. I’m just glad I did my journey the way I did my journey and continuing with this journey. Thanks again for all your info and your channel.

Definitely not! It’s definitely its own journey on its own. Ive started with comb coils, 2 strands & Interlocking nd Instant (Yes i know 😀 I had to restart 2 different times) Im tired of the loc progression im ready for it to mature alr !! I have hair that takes longer for it to loc also so thats a pain 😭 I have a disabled cousin and She got instant because its low maintenance. Instant locs are also not mature locs you still have to go through the stages it only skips abt 6-8 ish months.
