To get pets (I think there's currently only a ginger cat and doberman), there's a house somewhere (I forgot, did this quest a while ago) and you'll see a doberman behind a fence. You basically break in and save the doberman because it's been neglected. You send the doberman to the new animal shelter thingy-ma-jig and you'll be able to buy pets for 5k each. Edit: It's not a Doberman, it's a great dane.

To gat any pet (orange cat or great dane) you'll have to go to a house close to where yours is. You'll pet the dog, break in from the back, find the keys to unlock the doors and finish saving the dog and bringing it to the shelter. Then mary will allow u to adopt pets for 5k each!
