You shouldn't over simplify needles phobias. All I have to do is see the doctor in the white coat and I'm gone. Phobias sometimes intensify as you get older as well. I've taken valium before a blood test once and I was still so anxious I wouldn't let them. No one likes to be afraid - I wish more medical professionals would understand that.

This!!! It’s not the fear of the pain or the needle it’s the whole ritual of the alcohol swab to the doctor/nurse prepping the vaccine

I got a vaccine in a grocery store, I barely even hyperventilated. Had to get a vaccine at a doctors office? I cried, I shook, my brain went numb to speech (couldn't comprehend what people were asking me) , I had tunnel vision, I nearly puked. And the doctor hadn't even entered the room yet. I'm almost 30

My phobia is so strong, and it gets in the way of SO much SO often that sometimes I wish I was dead so I wouldn’t have to live like this. It’s the needle, the buildup, the fact that I don’t feel safe in the room or the entire building, and so much more that makes it absolute hell for me. I’m one of the people terrified of the needle and getting COVID, and I couldn’t care less what’s in the shot. I’d drink the fucking liquid if I could. I tried to talk, to listen to music, to watch a video, all of it! But for my first COVID immunization, I still had to be held down on the floor while they did it. This fear is so much more than just a bit of nervousness like some people think it is. I don’t like living this way. I’m miserable. I’d give anything for them to just knock me out, do it, and wake me up. No matter how much I try, I can’t make myself get it done.

About a year ago (2021) I was also deadly scared of needles and got panics attack so hard that it was hard to breath and cry. Now I don’t try and overthink needles so I don’t panic at all mostly never, I have been trying to overcome it because I’m supposed to get vaccinated not so far away. Just don’t try and think to much about it and when you do, don’t think about the needle to much and just think about how harmless it actually is☺️❤️

@@creamcakecoffee YOU CAN"T! While I do believe you had a fear of them it might not have been a full blown out phobia were your subconscious is flooding your brain with stress hormones. Where you Super Ego is losing a war against your own Id and your fight or flight reflex takes over. The question I ask you is how can you not think about it? Something my shrink told me that no one on needle phobia youtube video want you to know is that needle phobia become a self defense mechanism, you are fighting your self and losing since it fears that this can hurt our life or our way of living. How bad can it be? I had Leptospiriosis and Amebostatis, lost 40 pounds in 3 weeks weak and feverish lving over seas. had a friend that died of Lepto in Hawaii... no needle. Cellulitis of the foot almost lost it... no needle. Covid left me looking as blue as a smurf. Could not breath and started to hallucinate... While we know needles will not kill us, yet how can we fight something we fear more than death?

I was terrified of needles but it's a near unnoticeable slight numb poke... What you're imaging the pain as is 10x more painful like when people say its like if you pinch yourself but no... Pinching hurts more actually and the pain lingers while the needles pain is numb and over instantly. I watched a bunch of these last night to hype myself up for my vaccination. I had a huge phobia of needles since I was tiny due to traumatic experiences but I got my first vaccination 30 minutes ago and it was laughably painless lol.

It’s horrible. It can’t be explained, unless someone who has it really explains it. I’ve gone to therapy for it, and it helped for a bit, but then with my last COVID shot, I freaked. It is such an awful thing to feel, it’s different when you’re having a panic or anxiety attack when nobody’s looking, but having a really bad one while multiple people aren’t trying to help, but get it all over with is not good. Every time I think about shots or blood tests my stomach sinks. I do honestly wish they could just punch my head to knock me out, or have me inhale some of that sleeping stuff then bring me back when it’s over. I don’t know how many people relate, but I do feel for all of you, as I know how it feels.

Personally I never fainted or got dizzy. But a month ago I was getting my school vacations and I had “numbing cream” (I don’t know how to spell the proper word) and I still panicked. After they removed it I started freaking out but eventually I gave in but I was panicking for so long that the creams effects were gone and I felt it and immediately I shot up and refused. What’s worse is that nothing really calmed me. I tried looking at my phone looking away but I still felt stresses and panicked. Long story short I only got 1 of 2 shots and in a few months I am going back as if I never got the vaccination and am getting another one.

My main needle phobia is the blood draw procedure. I can go get a flu shot and be fine usually because the needle is in the upper arm. I cannot fathom the idea of a needle going into the vein in my top elbow and blood coming out. It's so bad I can't even watch other ppl get blood drawn. I have to completely leave the room. Also even seeing ppl with that wrap around their arm after blood draw makes me weak and feel like fainting. Anyone ever heard of this type of needle phobia? If they drew blood from a vein like lower down near the forearm instead of the elbow I could probably do it fine. I think for me it's not the needle itself but the location it's going. Help???

Sometimes you can go into getting an immunization and feel just fine, being willing to get it, the the second you've gotten it. Your body may just make you feel very unwell and dizzy. I went into the pharmacy to get a flu mist, I wanted it over a vaccine, had no issue getting it. The second I finished getting it. I got really dizzy. took about 2 minutes to collect myself. And within a 1 minute walk from the pharmacy to the parking lot, I lost nearly all my vision, and had to lie down in the parking lot for a moment to get myself together. I was still dizzy once I get in the car. I've found running the AC on extremely code and just laying back in the seat and closing my eyes for a bit helped me out a lot. I recommend taking an ice pack to place on your head and chest/ back to cool yourself down. You will feel that little bit better if you push yourself to get your own vaccine. At least you'll last longer compared to not wanting to get it. Not easy, not a great solution, but it helps me at least make it into the pharmacy to fill out the paperwork and make it to chair in a waiting room before a lot of my issues kick in. Try to let them know you need your immunization as quick as possible to reduce the amount of anxiety you'd get before receiving it. I was that kid in the family that hates shots, but would get to go before anyone else in my family so I could get it over with and not build up more stress from having to wait.

100% relate to all the comments here. I had been a needle phobic ever since I had my first baby vaccine but I’ve somehow miraculously gotten over it and it was right before the pandemic hit. I thought I’d share how I overcame it here. 1. Exposure. The hardest part is the first step but repeated and frequent exposure really cured it for me. 2. Therapy. Before I had to get my teeth fixed I knew I couldn’t run away from the anesthetic that I had to face so I tried therapy. The therapist did CBT which I can’t really tell how it helped my recovery but what I got from the sessions was a safe place to vent out my fear. 3. Repeated painless exposure. I was lucky to have nurses who were absolutely amazing at giving shots and blood tests so I think that asking for a person who is known for making the procedure painless is a big help.

I need to get a frenectomy so I can properly close a gap I have with braces. I’m not nervous about them actually doing the procedure or nothing I’m just terrified of the fact that I have to get injections for it. I don’t even have a date set for it and I feel lightheaded just thinking about it. And I don’t want to be this terrified, but I am and I feel like nobody understands it and they just think I’m being dramatic or overreacting. Like I build up all this fear and then I get it done, faint, and then I realize how little of a deal it is. But no matter how many shots I get, every time I hear that I need another one I wanna hide in the forest forever and never have to see a needle for the rest of my life. And the worst part is Idek why I have this fear. When I was younger I was constantly in the hospital and I had to get tied down to a chair just to get an IV, but I have no recollection of that at all. Just pictures. And I’ve tried everything but it’s of no use and I really don’t wanna go on with the rest of my life with this dumb fear. It’s really frustrating like I wish that when I faint then they would just inject me so that I don’t have to experience it. Also I’m really just hoping that I magically don’t need the frenectomy anymore cause its FREAKING ME OUT. Like I just want them to put a mask on my face to knock me out, inject me and then I’ll be good. But yeah I’m really reaallly reaaaalllllly REAALLLLLLY scared and for what. 🤦‍♀️ ok ima stop now I’m giving myself a headache 😅

So as someone who has developed a vasovagal syncope to needles and have gotten passed some of the issues present, here are my thoughts. The issue is entirely due to your own panic response and anxiety. Which in tern creates a feedback loop in which you are unlikely to improve at getting needles. When I was younger I loved needles (moms a blood tech and would taek my blood, I loved watching it go through the tube), except one year I went to get a vaccine and the pain was overexaggerated to me by my mother. When I got the shot, I was so anxious because I thought it was gonna hurt I had my first bad experience with needles. Ever since then I had issues getting needles. Over covid, I had to get so many vaccines my anxiety for injections is entirely gone and I don't have a vasovagal response. However, when I get my blood drawn because I consider it different in my head, I have vasovagal response to it. For whatever reason, I can't seem to get over the blood draw fear yet.

The bedside manner of the doctor and the nurse makes a difference. If you ever had a basal cell carcinoma scooped out without being deadened due to drug supply chain problems you will never look at a shot the same way. I had a spot that was suspect and it had to get scooped out. When they scooped I actually saw stars. It wasn't pain because it never throbbed and ached it was just a hurt. But I never knew a hurt could be so bad you see stars. It lasted less than a second but what a second that was.

So, don’t let us poke you! If you have bad veins and you know where you generally get your blood drawn, let us know, it helps a lot.

It's not the needle that hurts for me... ITS THE BANDAGE
@shuttzi9878

I noticed that too yesterday when my blood was drawn again. When they applied the "bandage" I was obviously focused on the place i was nedleed and even hours after the procedure i felt like i was still being needled which made me feel like i couldn't move my arm much. But then i took off the bandage when it was the time to do so and eveything that i perceived as a needle pain disappeared. Turns out its not the place u were needled that stings but rather the bandages that are grabbing ur skin too much when u move the arm to the point where the skin is being stretched too much, then it starts "stinging".

I have a fear of needles, but will and have gotten a lot of shots. To me my fear comes from the pain. They say it's just a little pinch, but nope, it's either a large pinch, or sometimes it's even a stinging pain. I'm all caught up on my shots, but OW

I get really severe panic attacks before getting my blood drawn/ vaccinated etc. I'll start shaking, crying, and laughing uncontrollably. Even just thinking about it makes me want to crumble myself into a ball. I'm also about to get a minor surgery that requires anesthesia and that requires an IV and that thought TERRIFIES me. So I've been scouring the Internet for anything to help me🙏 if anyone has any tips please please tell me🙏🙏🙏 but on the bright side of all of that I'll never be tempted to do heroin😅

This is so stupid and over simplifying the issue... It's a phobia. All I need to do is look at a photo of a needle or hear about it and I break out is a cold sweat and feel super nauseous and like I am going to pass out. It's a fight or flight response. The only thing I have found to help is drugs beforehand and really talking myself up like "ok you just have to be strong for 5 seconds, 5 SECONDS". But I cry every time , shake, and hyperventilate.

For me its not that it hurts its when I see and feel it in my skin. From when I was younger people thought that am scared of the doctors but no I don't have a problem with the doctors its just that from when I was younger doctors wouldn't ask me where I want to be "shot" by the needle they just did it. They say that I have good veins on my right hand. From that hand they would never get blood and try at the same spot or at another until they made me cry. And now because of that me or some other people that have that phobia won't go to the hospital because of the doctors or because the needle makes them anxious :)

Every time I get a vaccine, I just go to the hospital normally, but when I'm in the waiting room I just start getting massive anxiety and sometimes even start to tear up from fear, I try to be brave trust me, I don't like to look like a crybaby with a fear of needles, but then when I'm done I try to tell myself "It's okay we are done, no need to be scared now" But then I just start to get nausea, feeling dizzy and seeing things way too bright or blurred, my face feels cold or hot and I just want to lay down, but I don't understand why it happens beacuse before I was taking vaccines normally with no issue, but now it has alredy happened 4 times, lying down does help me though, I luckily never fainted but always felt like I was going to, I'm trying to get over my fear but when I try to calm myself down it almost never happens

Genuine hatred of needles, i almost pass out and pour sweat when giving blood. Just got put on TRT thinking it would be like a diabetic needle, naaah, its just over an inch long, and you have to go all the way in to the muscle. I am really struggling getting over the mental hurdle, the image of the shot pops up in my head randomly all day long. Told my wife she's going to have to knock me unconscious. I wish I was exaggerating.

This is great for middle of the road needle phobes, but for severely phobic patients this is not at all helpful. You are not only underestimating the severity of the problem and the number of people who suffer, you suggest that fainting is the only functional neurological or functional neurocardiovascular event associated with needle puncture. There are those who suffer seizures, paralysis, left ventricle dysfunction, neurocardiovascular shock, severe paroxysmal pulmonary hypertension, angina, afib, and even the big old cardiomyopathy itself. These people are not even going to enter your clinic because they know, even though you may be a very kind and skilled physician, you are probably completely unaware these conditions even exist. Think lyme disease and POTS thirty years ago. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy ten years ago (this, by the way, is NOT a benign condition).

Last year I got my covid vaccinations, shot 1, 2 and booster 6 months later. I’m so fucking proud of myself for doing it, I suffer with such an intense phobia of needles it makes ,e feel like the walls are closing in, the worlds ending, I feel like throwing up and embrace the idea of becoming unconscious. Watching anything related to this phobia made tears well up in my eyes. I hate this fear so much, even when nothings happening I think about it, and whenever someone even brings it up and conversation I need to leave the room. As I’ve gotten older (I’ll be 15 soon) it’s only gotten worse and I want to beat this retarded irrational fear out of me. I view it as uncontrollable and I don’t even recognize myself when I’m panicking about it so badly. I hate that feeling in my chest and that light headed feeling I get whenever the topic is brought up
