It's amazing that people think that the brain is that simple. I guess for all I know, the brain has a mayor that decided on the zoning districts and what goes where, but I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. Or even if that's how mayors work, to be honest. That could very well be somebody else's job!

@@idontwantahandlethough in AP Psych in high school, i did learn about diff regions of the brain controlling different body parts & their being like a "left hand area" that literally gets bigger if you use your left hand a lot. This was 12 years ago. I'm sure we talked about the "left brain / right brain" myth & while I don't remember the class as well as I'd like ... yes. Brains are complex lol.

@@idontwantahandlethough On Mayors, it depends on the municipality. In my city, generally the staff works with people & businesses in the community to figure out what zoning is needed to build a certain type of business or residence. Then the staff presents the re-zoning to the full 7-person city council at a meeting (twice per month) to be voted on. Sometimes they pretend to try to make residents aware of the pending rezoning in their neighborhood before voting on it.

Also, I wonder whether the "more mature" thing came from how September kids are the oldest in their year group at school (at least in the UK). And in comparison, summer kids are the youngest, and that's why we're thought of as being immature. Interestingly enough, that's also why September kids are studied to be most likely to get higher grades and be better at school/college sports than others. There's _almost a year_ in age between a September kid and a August kid from the same year group at school. Due to how year groups are counted. It starts at September, in my case. If you count there being 1 months difference between these months, you're comparing the September kid to the August kid of the year above. _I know because, being born in the summer, I've had the experience of having to wait until near the summer holiday to finally not be _*_that_*_ kid who's still 12 while everyone else is 13 as an example_ Obviously, age isn't everything though. But it's interesting how your birth month could actually affect you statistically.

Look at this picture of a tree. If you see a tree that means three weeks ago at 5 o’clock in the morning you awoke to a strange noise. Upon hearing said noise a cool breeze hit the back of your neck. Terrified, but unperturbed, you go to investigate only to find you are alone. This is peculiar considering you have a roommate. Alright so who was your roommate? @@b.castilho4011 there is an ongoing problem of people using outdated and/or ineffective methods in psychology. Hell, some people still use polygraphs. Also, what college is teaching you that Rorschach tests are still valid tests? And anyways, from the beginning Rorschach tests were not even intended to be used so broadly, they were focused on identifying schizophrenia. The controversy surrounding them was most recent in the 1990s into the 2000s, with some holdouts in the early 2010s, from what I can tell. Also, there were various issues with meta analyses being conducted by Rorschach test proponents that seemed to go unaddressed at the time. Also even the more scientific tests can be questionable due to how much we still need to learn about personality. Or how tests are formatted can limit what sort of answers we can even get. Or how some things can't really be made into discrete categories. Plus, removing cultural biases from these tests can be difficult. I mean, something like level of literacy and/or language fluency may even be a confounding variable depending on how the test is presented. So how we can use the results of these tests are limited and have to be used carefully.

@@Chelseajustwatches I’m sorry to hear you’ve also had to experience this same bull shit. The recovery industry so predatory. it really sucked going through rehabs being treated like a criminal in a place I’m paying to help me in a desperate time of my life. Obviously they’re were good people sprinkled in but most of the time it was overworked, underpaid, and inexperienced people caring for us. It really sucks our society views addicts even addicts seeking help as criminal and deserving of punishment to justify abusing the people in their care. This has been my experience at multiple rehabs.

A lot of people fall prey to unqualified people. It's not normalized enough that you should only be going to professionals for mental health advice, and that going to quacks and "gurus" can actually hurt you. I think this is in part to specifically the US not having free health care like almost literally everywhere else, and people not having access to mental health professionals. It's really a shame!

These animal related ones just make me laugh cause I'm sitting here, autistic with a special interest in tigers cause they're my favorite animal. So as soon as the word "animal" is uttered, I just go "tiger!" So it literally just means nothing, I just really love tigers lol. Then the optical illusion ones are always just so boring cause I can see both images immediately except for that chicken one, that one was so small that I had to turn my phone 3 ways to see it.

They totally don’t use these tests irl, they just take some basic personality test from facebook akin to your favorite color or the first letter of your name determining your financial success, sometimes switch some things around to not get called out for reading ancient facebook posts and just come up with new ones some time after posting the last one, or they make a bunch at the same time and just post them at different dates. Like they literally make so many they wouldn’t be able to keep any friends around if they kept asking those, these tests are just low effort content that gets views.

the walking through the woods, animal, house, cup, body of water one was used as a writing exercise during my degree and honestly it came up with some really fun poems, but most hilariously my ace ass wrote that "i can hear the sound of water but i haven't found it yet" and my friend who is the opposite had written about jumping into the ocean. coincidence? yes, obviously, these tricks are dumb, but it was actually super fun to use as a jumping off point for some weird poetry

LOL HONESTLY and like especially with the black and white ones - ss an example you would most likely see a black figure in the middle of white background clearer than something coming out of its outline and the same in reverse as with the most popular one with the white candlestick or smth in the middle and two black faces surrounding it as outline. You would most likely see the white separate figure in the middle, it's just how your eyes work and not your brain XD

In psychology class we call these phenomenon wherein someone would give out a set of generic and vague characteristics and someone may think said characteristics do describe them as Barnum Effect. It was derived from a pseudo psychological tests utilized by showman P.T. Barnum. The questions, descriptions or circumstances often at first feels or sounds so personal but upon closer inspection they're actually very generic and anyone could fit into the said descriptions, these vague and generic statement are called Barnum Statements.

For the “your second favorite animal is how you perceive your partner” one my only thought was….my second favorite animal is a badger but my partner has the personality of a cat. He bites, her hisses, he knocks things off of counters, he really likes shiny objects, he sits anywhere he can wedge himself into and he likes cuddles but only from people he REALLY trusts. He is not a badger, he is a (slightly feral) cat and no one can convince me otherwise.
