Two years ago I was curious about how leather journals and wallets were made so I watched this video, went to a tool exchange and I got an awl, 5 prong punch,and two edge beveler’s. Somehow with those tools, a box cutter, needles and very thick thread and some leather from my old couch I made the worst looking pocket. After watching little king goods videos, buying templates, buying tools and going to workshops at Leffler Leather in Australia two years later, I am a 14 year old boy with a dream to start my own leather working shop and teach what I have learnt. And that dream was all thanks to you so little king good thank you for helping me throughout my journey.

If you want a good supply of inexpensive leather to practice and learn with, re-purpose old jackets and other leather clothing from thrift shops, and keep an eye out for abandoned leather furniture that you can harvest.

@@RocketDragons Where I am currently (Germany) that kind of stuff still sells at such a mark-up that it's far far more expensive than just buying leather, like a leather jacket at a thriftstore might still be around $100.

@@RocketDragons Mark, thats a great idea but is the leather on furniture and/or jackets the same thickness? Ive never worn a leather jacket with leather as thick as people typically are using in all these wallet/bag videos I have been watching. I ask because yes, it would be a cheap source of leather but will practicing on thinner leather be any use?

And what does he gain from this? If you want something, YOU, and only YOU should go get it. It is no one else’s job to do that for you. Sure it would be nice of home to take a very long time to plan and then put up a kit to then sell to you but even if charges double the original price, it is still a less and a waste of his precious time and therefore, a waste of money.

The difference between a punch and a pricking iron is that the punch is used to punch holes right through the leather, while the pricking irons are used to make marks and then you'd use a flat diamond awl to put the actual hole in for each stitch.
@TheV1CT0RY
@TheV1CT0RY Жыл бұрын
No, you can punch right through with the pricking irons. The difference is that the punch makes holes and removes material while the pricking irons cut through and pushes the leather to the side. So you dont need an awl to make the holes. You can hammer right through with the pricking irons.

This is awesome! Thank you for the video. A suggestion, if I may, showing the holes for the stitching punch or the pricking irons would be awesome to see the difference. Otherwise, really nice to see the tools and explanations of what they do. Thanks for the advice, as well!
