Another reason to prefer canned cycles is that it can make it much easier for a machinist to understand what the machine is supposed to be doing at any moment.

Exactly, clear communications and comments make the code so much easier to navigate and understand.

@@MLCCADSystems Also it's the programmers job to make a toolpath that matches the print, but the machinist will optimize speeds, feeds, doc etc. and editing long handed doc is a pita, especially on tapers. The canned cycle is a necessity so I can tinker with the doc to break the chip. The doc and feed required to break the chip varies based on material condition, chipbreaker geometry of whatever insert is on hand, tool height error (affecting rake angle) from crashed turrets that will always get fixed after the next job etc. etc.

My problem in particular was that when I programmed the drill then bore. It didn’t register the hole size from the drill And just tried to do a g70 pass for the bore.

Thank you Sherman for taking the time to create such a thorough video of what it takes to create the CAM side of a lathe operation. Your efforts are very well organized as well as intuitive. I also like the fact that you took the time to show in, several instances, more than one way to "skin the cat". I have been programming for 25 years in G-code but for reasons I won't go into here, I find myself behind the times with this approach to metal working. I have been attempting to learn Mastercam on my own through videos such as yours and others ... (Titans of CNC comes to mind). My question to you is... do you think it will be enough to attempt to learn Mastercam this way or should I consider enrolling in a professional institution that is industry certified and would be what a potential employer is looking to see on a resume? I know this may sound like a silly question as MLC CAD Systems may very well be just such and institution but clearly I'm not familiar with MLC. I would encourage the opportunity to reach out to you in a way/forum that is a little more professional than just the "comments" section of a KZfaq video and thanks again for such an outstanding tutorial!

Hi, Michael! Happy that you're learning from our content. although strictly learning on your own is a viable route, but if you wanted to learn the ins and out of Mastercam from an established institution we provide training at MLC CAD Systems. This procedure can be followed on any model that Mastercam can import. Search around for 3D models online (3Dcontentcentral.com, grabcad.com) or see if one of the Signature Parts will work for you, it is available on Mastercam's website along with many other free resources like posts kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hranl8mou5nYias.html

Your video is very helpful! Have you come across something like when master cam would post G-codes but machine would do something else? I think this issue has to do with machine configurations. How would you fix the problem. Thanks in advance!
@MLCCADSystems
@MLCCADSystems 4 жыл бұрын
That is a very odd thing indeed, and would likely require an expert to help you troubleshoot it and narrow it down to the Mastercam project, the post-processor, or the machine control itself. Some CNC controls and variants can have special quirks that you have to know about and understand to work around or adapt your code to. If you are an MLC CAD Systems customer please reach out to our team to discuss your issue, mlc-cad.com/technical-support/, and if you need help with your post we can offer that service to just about anyone, mlc-cad.com/service-inquiry/ Good luck with your machine!

It has taken nearly 3 years to get mastercam as i like it for our Okuma multus B400W and thats ONLY for the milling side... not started on the lathe side till now and i expect there to be alarms galore. My Mastercam reseller in Sweden is excellent and my agreement covers this very in depth and very demanding area. Its a little odd i think that such a complicated machine is not already set up for this. Our post processor NOW posts at the top of every program... a tool list WITH load monitor info and load monitor Nr and operation Nr Also each operation contains the load operation Choice of Nr AND the load operation axis to monitor. Everything now posts clean. It has been a very long and laborious job with a high demand from my side to get it this way. I dont think anybody at work could comprehend the dedication it has taken to get us this far. And now we start with adding the clean posting of lath operations. Once done though.... the enjoyment of working with the machine is much better. My only concerns has been with management not understanding this and the worry of new mastercam versions messing up this mountain of work.

Whenever people create jaws they use "parameter" instead of "chain". Chain does not seem to work. Following the instructions for chain does not work.
@MLCCADSystems
@MLCCADSystems 2 жыл бұрын
I asked one of our experts to test this and Chain worked on their file. It could be caused jaw geometry with overlapping or duplicate contours creating this problem, or not trimmed properly. This is a perfect example where your local reseller will be able to look at your files and workflow to help you figure out the best way to proceed. Best of luck!

@@MLCCADSystems I am using 2020. First of all, directions say to draw in upper quadrant. Which one? There are 2 upper quadrants on my planet. A right and a left. I tried both. No good. Secondly I tried a very simple geometry using a rectangle from the rectangle drawing feature. 4 entities (lines connected). No duplicates. All sides trimmed with no breaks. I used top view as stated in the instructions at Z0. No good. Nothing I see works. After I select the chain, it says to select the geometry, which I already did, over and over again.
