This is the first in our short series of videos introducing airbrushing as a way of painting your miniatures. We have taught airbrushing classes to people all over the world. Using Warhammer, Bolt Action, Star Wars Legion, and our own 54mm models and busts amongst others. They are a fantastic tool to have in your painting toolkit.

Good introduction video on airbrushing. One thing I would add is to not switch thinners from different brands. Even though they would all work fine, it's very useful to get to know how yours behaves in your airbrush and you don't want to relearn that when you switch products.

Well, this is serendipitous. My brother got me an airbrush and compressor kit for Xmas, and I hadn’t yet tried it out, since I haven’t been able to buy any models since then. I finally placed a Forge World order for some models that arrived yesterday, and I was planning on trying the airbrush on them today- so your video being posted is just perfect timing! Thanks for the tutorial- I’ll let you know if I have any success. Enjoy your weekend! Edit- I guess I have a couple of items that I still need to purchase to get started. I've just been reading some comments about the Cult Of Paint Airbrush on a couple of YT Channels. Apparently, it would seem that it's hit or miss whether you get a good brush with the Cult Of Paint branding on it. I've read some comments about the front end not sealing properly which keeps blowing air back into the cup no matter how tight you make it. Another reported that the air head was screwed in extremely tight and had to be removed with a pair of pliers badly marring the finish. It has to be screwed back in EXTREMELY tight or air will leak through the nozzle o ring backflowing into the paint cup.
@cultofpaint
@cultofpaint 3 жыл бұрын
With the thousands sold, we suspect its less hit and miss and more a handful of people have been unfortunate, and as usual it tends to be those who have had a negative experience that will make their voices heard on the internet. We wouldn't have worked with another manufacturer on our brushes as we know and have used H&S products for years, their quality and attention to detail is outstanding. With the way the threadless nozzle system works it is imperative there is a good seal on the headset. Should you be unfortunate and receive a brush where the o-ring has for some reason failed then contacting either H&S directly or Element Games where you purchased the brush from is an easy way to get it sorted out. They have excellent customer service. We couldn't be more proud of the two CoP brushes and it's awesome to see how many hobbyists have picked them up and are enjoying their painting.

Thanks for this guide. What do you use to stop paint going everywhere when working inside?
@cultofpaint
@cultofpaint 3 жыл бұрын
If working for any length of time we use an airbrush extraction booth. There are some purpose made ones or also plenty of guides to fashion one yourself. There are some great collapsible card ones people have created which help keep the overspray contained but don't require any power etc. Provided you have decent ventilation then these are a great solution if space is at a premium.

@khendon2393
@khendon2393 4 жыл бұрын
A basic airbrush setup, such as the Master AIrbrush and Compressor or similar on Amazon/Ebay is perfectly fine to start with for around £80. You can prime, base coat, zenithal and glaze with it no problem at all, it might only be insufficient later on when you want to get to advanced techniques and spot highlighting, then you might want to upgrade the brush itself. That is optional though, many people don't bother. It's also one of the most cost effective things you can buy in this hobby. It saves you tons of time, allows you to prime and base in any weather, it makes your paints go further. One 200ml pot of Black Polyurethane Surface Primer or similar for around £8 will last for thousands of points worth of models. It also goes on thinner, is easier to strip, and has zero complications compared to spray cans. You can use all of your existing paints just fine through an airbrush, just have to thin them. All of that for the price of one large model from GW.
@cultofpaint
@cultofpaint 4 жыл бұрын
Save the money on the compressor rather than the airbrush. Pick up one of the tankless AS series compressors ( they often come with a free cheapy brush, although 9 times out of 10 it will be garbage), then if you can we'd recommend our evolution. It may seem like a big initial outlay but you'll get a very high quality brush that can do all the jobs you need of it and will last you pretty much forever.

How important is a booth to spray in? That’s going to cost another £70 or so looking on amazon. If i get one I’m going to need to be able to pack it away when not in use. Does it need to be near a window for ventilation?
@fruitytoots4133
@fruitytoots4133 4 жыл бұрын
I've been airbrushing for over 12 years now. And would only ever recommend a compressor with a tank. Not tankless. No pressure drops, higher ability with psi, for example, if you want to use it for something else or terrain perhaps, and last a lot longer. My last tanked compressor lasted 8 years, using it for many hours a day. It's not expensive when you think of the spray can primers you wont be buying anymore and the amount of paint that wont be wasted anymore. Its expensive but its not. Buy the best you can afford and you will be good :)

I had a question about the respirator. Do you not need one of those vent hoods, if you use one of those masks? The issue I have with an airbrush is I have limited indoor space and I can't easily open a window to hook a hose to due to energy costs, so I've not really figured out how I could actually airbrush indoors. Would a mask solve that problem, then?
@cultofpaint
@cultofpaint 3 жыл бұрын
The extraction booth is great for redirecting the fumes and keeping the over sprayed paint from settling on surfaces. The respirator is important whether you have one or not. If you have a look around online you’ll see people have fashioned some homemade ones from plastic storage boxes, or just a simple collapsible type from foam board that helps reduce the over spray. There’s lots of options, but the respirator remains a much more important piece of kit.

If the more expensive brush can do everything, I'd rather get that. Also am I OK getting a cheaper compressor to start with, or is it worth paying the extra for an iwata or something up front? I know I can get a compressor with a tank on amazon for like 70 or 80 quid, but it's probably very noisy I would assume.
@cultofpaint

I was reading descriptions on artis opus, and it doesn't mention the two pronged cap coming with the evolution. If it doesn't come with the Evo, where would I get one from please? I think I would like to get both brushes TBH as they both look great, and it would be good to save the infinity for detail work, and have the Evo as a proper "workhorse" I may end up just getting both at the same time, but if I was to just buy the Evo first, I'd want t make sure I had the two pronged cap to protect the needle.
