here's a few tips for diy railroad layout construction Find a suitable set of plans online Find a mate who wants to build one too so you have someone to encourage you (I discovered these and why they work on Jareks hobby club website )

Cheers for this, I've been looking for "building a ready to run model railroad" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Piyaliyah Uncommunicative Preference - (search on google ) ? It is an awesome one of a kind product for discovering how to build a model train railroad easily minus the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my m8 got great success with it.

Found this channel last week, and have been binge watching! Your old layout was great, and has inspired me to start my own 00 layout, glad to see you're going to be making a new layout mate, even with your current boat situation, since this channel is great.

How great! I am working on a camper van as a living space and I really want a train around the room. I have three meters to play with, so I can have a couple of fun elements. I haven’t used n scale, and you’ve not only given me some ideas, you’ve given me the courage to try them! I just soldered for the first time putting my electrical system in, so I was tickled to see you just as giddy as I! Thanks!

Welcome to N gauge! Glad to see the trains have made it on to the boat. N gauge is ideal for those small spaces and even if you can't find space for a smaller oval layout you can still build a decent end-to-end layout on a simple shelf. My first N gauge layout was 7 feet long by just 8 inches wide. A simple country station, small goods yard and 3 road fiddle yard hidden behind that. Now with DCC you can make everything automated, from your points to your trains, and run it all from a laptop/pad/phone or have it completely automated so you can just sit back and watch the trains come and go. DMU's are ideal for smaller layouts as they can run in either direction without the need to turn around. All the best. Mike.

Graham Farish 379-480 is the product code for the n gauge power clip that is compatible with your controller (Graham Farish is N gauge Bachmann), not that you need it now with your soldering. Good choice going with the Schools class loco Southern is my favorite steam era company.

I used to do 00 but i had limitations as to size as my house isn't big enough for the plans i have for the future so i sold the lot and now am looking to go into N class as i can save space and build big i live in Rugby and i want to remake the railway as it was in the 40s in the industrial part of rugby i have found the original plans so it will be a massive undertaking as there will be at least 50 to 80 points to install and figure out how to operate i will be using a computer to run it in the end as i would not have enough hands to change the points manually it will take a few years to build obviously and a lot of dosh points aint cheap so watching channels like yours helps me greatly the more information i amass the better for me so looking forward to watch you progress .ps i have subscribed like and clicked the bell .

Nice to see a train running again , plans sound good but have you ever considered having a small terminus station in the middle instead - of corse this means you can’t run trains through the station but it could be a fun idea. Either way sure you’ll do something great with the space. All the best

You might consider getting the Peco books such as plans for small layouts - They have very tight curves which modern locos cannot handle but they are full of ideas you can pinch for your layout. In your position I think I would consider a guitar-case layout, two long narrow trays each about an inch or so deep hinged like a guitar case so when it is folded up it is a long (probably 4-5 foot) but narrow (say 2 feet) box with the delicate track on the inside. That way you have the fewest tracks to connect together (at the ends) but you can have nice gentle end curves. You may need a carpenter's help making the case.

Well, on an area basis you can get four times more into the same space as you can with OO/HO. It's a good way to go if you want to show a train in context with larger landscape. BobUK.

I Love Workin on N Gauge Even though I Also have Ho as well I know 3 things In model Rail road that Everybody Knows 1. Don’t Rush it. The more you rush it it won’t work when rushed . 2.TAKE YOUR TIME When Working on the Layout. 3. Take Pride In your Model Railroading 4. You Want to Spend your Money Spend it Model Rail roading instead of Goin to a Bar instead. My wife and I come home then I head to My Layout when working on it LOOK it Over it will come to ya.

Hi Dan, so glad to see you up and running. And now with N gauge. Welcome to the club! I can appreciate you want to keep it simple, however may I suggest a large dividing wall across the middle, so you see the train enter the scene, stop at a station, maybe?? Then ride on. Around the back you may consider two or three lanes for an of scene fiddle yard. Doesn’t have to be complicated, but it gives the train a sense of journey. Obviously it’s your choice just food for thought. Ive recently started my new layout if you fancy a look. ‘Piccadilly Model Railway’ on Facebook.

Since you are doing the N gauge, I wonder if you could do a rail around the top of your walls. Maybe a foot from the ceiling you could see the trains but they would be out the way for everyday moving about.

Great start Dan. With me being from the U.S. is double O (OO) the same as HO in the states? With the smaller N gauge i can think of all the possibilities of running your layout (over time of course) all around the inside of Able's Ark. I think it will be a great way to spend the winters nights next to the fire. Also, use this winter to try snd figure out a way to put the old OO on the roof next spring. That would be way cool. Great job Dan

Great Dan. I love your videos. It’s just sad that there aren’t many videos being uploaded at the moment. I’d love to see you build a nice model railway in n gauge on a board. Maybe that could be a small series. I’ve got a series on my channel on how to build a model railway for beginners from start to finish. Hope this helps
