If , like me, you have been a life long "Birder" who has taught beginning Bird finding and identification classes, you've undoubtedly found that many such beginners, either show up with binoculars that are very old and seriously malfunctioning - or new ones ill-suited for the use and user. In either case, many such people simply do not know how to use binoculars, let alone set them up properly for their personal vision parameters. This results in spending a lot of time helping individuals to set up their binoculars, ( if they aren't hopelessly out of alignment) rather than looking for and at birds. I don't really mind that, but sending them to view this excellent video when they sign up for my classes before our first outing will be so helpful. Thank you !

I've found that adjusting the independence focuser is best while looking at something much closer, even a few yards out. It's easier to tell if a close object is in perfect focus than it is a far away object.

Were you in my kitchen when we unpacked our new binocular? The written instructions did nothing to dispel the mystery of setting it up. Your video answered all our questions and probably saved a huge domestic! LOL

Another great place to find a lens cleaning kit is at a camera shop. The same care is taken for camera and binoculars lenses. Avoid blowing on your lens to get a piece of dust off. You will end up with saliva and whatever else you've recently eaten or drank on your lens. I carry a camera lens brush in my case just for such situations. Great video. Lots of good basic knowledge here!

Greetings! Thanks for the star chart and resources online. I am must starting out using a Celestron 15 X 70 set of binoculars. I am in Brooksville, FL which I believe is about 28 degrees north. Still having tough time seeing Andromeda but may be just training my eye. Tried using lines from Cassiopeia, etc. Last night, Feb 11 I was out at just after sunset. Tried Stellarium and a few resources to find out an answer before emailing. In my East and West sky just after the sun dropped down I saw objects one on top of the other on both the East and West horizons. Are these the planets since we are near the Ecliptic? I bought a Celestron Sky Master pair of binoculars and although views good - I got neck strain from the angle of gazing - hence more interested in trying out a scope.

I just got my first pair of binoculars and although I’ve set the diopter, I haven’t marked the position yet. I’m going to use the same method that I use to evaluate a new camera lens. Mount the binoculars on a tripod, targeting a black and white road sign. Then set the left and right diopter and mark the right lens position. I don’t trust my hand held attempts enough and it’s much easier to be sure black and white print is sharp.

Hie ive got a question . I bought a Nikon aculon a211 8x42 and I’ve tried everything but I can’t seem to get the inter pupillary thing right I mean no matter what I do I can’t get the view as one single view . It’s like what you’ve said the Hollywood view . Is there any suggestion ?

Good video, I wish I'd seen it before buying a pair of Barr & Stroud 12x50 Sierra binoculars at £12te9 at a local camera shop. I wanted a pair for some amateur Astronomy and asked for 10x50 first, the shop didn't have any 10x50's in stock so I bought these 12x50's instead. When I bot them the eyepieces had covers but not the large lens, I commented on it, but I was told it was normal with these bino's. I had my 1st try at Stargazing 2nite and found the shake to be intolerable +nothing 4a tripod

very nice video. sorry if this is a silly ques but when you adjust the binoculars for your eyes does it only adjust to what u are looking at and thus would need to adjust when you look at a new object or to ones eyes and thus no matter what you look at it will already be at its optimum settings

I found a New Old Stock of Winchester WL-1050WR for Canadian $40 (US$32/£25) which came in its original packaging including a Steel Box, A Nylon Pouch and all the straps. I couldn't find any details of Winchester Binoculars online - I know that they are a now defunct Ammunition company from USA famous for their rifles and also made rifle scopes. The box and the documentation state "Winchester is a registered trademark of Olin Corporation. Winchester Optics are distributed in North America by Vanguard (USA) Inc.” I know Vanguard makes some pretty decent mid range sub $250 binos. What are your thoughts about this purchase of $40 Canadian? Here are some specs: Porro Prism (Ofcourse from the looks ) 10x50 Eye relief: 11mm Exit Pupil: 5mm Angle of view: 6.7 degrees Field of view: 351 feet at 1000 yards Weight: 1.87 Ibs

In my experience, "rubberized" becomes sticky and needs cleaning off the "rubberization ". I no longer buy rubberized things.
