There is a distinct look between digital photos compares to film photos. Digital is often sharper, grainless, and with more contrast. The perfection of the digital devices that creates the photos is its greatest flaw (from excellent metering, flawless autofocusing, low light capabilities, etc.) The limitation of the film is its character. Its unpredictable outcome is its strength. We do everything we can to mimic that limitation of film photos and videos (video is just a series of motion jpegs). Grain produced in most software and digital cameras is monochromatic; dehancer creates both monochromatic and color grain. Dehancer allows you to control your grain in the shadows, highlights, and mid-tones. Dehancer also allows you to sharpen your photo by using high-resolution grain instead of digital pixels. And achieving the best film look from a digital camera requires, in a sense, turning off all sharpening, contrast, noise reduction, and dynamic range from your digital camera.
