This is the way I’ve lived my adult life….doing (almost) everything ourselves. We built an addition (with new kitchen) to our old house, turned two rooms into one, built a double garage, and poured the driveway. The house we’re currently in - we stripped wallpaper, scraped old textured ceilings, added a bathroom and kitchenette in the basement, re-did the floors, built a new kitchen, and added a shed. I’ve always felt that the reason we live as well as we do is because we do most everything ourselves. I love quilts, so I took up quilting. My husband does most of the home repairs. We rarely eat out because we eat so much better if we stay home and cook. I look forward to seeing future projects on your home place.

So you call 5 roofers and only 4 actually come to look at your project. Then one doesn't ever send an estimate, leaving 3. One estimate is so high it is unreasonable, leaving 2. One of these can't get you on his calendar for months. Leaving one, who says he can come out next week, but when the day arrives he never shows and doesn't answer his phone. If you can do it yourself you will be better off.

I don't know much, but as a Canadian, I can tell you about the Maple tree. When the leaves die off, Cut the Dead off. Tar it. Dig some holes around the trunk, approximately 4' away from the center of it. Drop worms, fish bits, etc. to help the roots find nutrients. Over the winter, you know what happens. Good luck! Having watched Billy do so much repair work on the rooves of his Chateau , between he and Simon you should do a bit of consulting with them over your roof repairs . The local repair people seem totally disinterested and sketchy at best .
