You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice kzfaq.infoUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

Love my DW745. My rip gauge is marked in inches *and* metric which I also love. The mm scale really helps when sneaking up on a cut. The action of the rip adjustment is very smooth as well. This saw is powerful for a small saw (or a large one). I ripped red oak, on edge, the full height of the blade with no problem.

That was a very professional and comprehensive breakdown. My table saw threw the towel in tonight and I’m leaning towards this guy.. Thanks. Update is I bought this model and so far all is good. The fine adjustment on the fence is as good as I hoped, it seems robust enough to take in the van but has the capacity for what I would consider precision work. Thanks again for your review.

I like the saw very much!! When I opened the box, I followed the setup procedures in the instruction manual. I had to make some slight adjustments (zero the rail scale and the angle indicator). However, the saw was setup very well from the manufacturer. I had to buy this saw to make a sill to replace a very rotted one. It was accurate when reproducing the 4 degree pitch. I also used it to make some push blocks. Although the arbor cannot take dado blades, it is easy to make the cuts by adjusting the rail. I do not know why it took me so long to get this. This saw has saved me a lot of work since most of the time I used my circular saw. Best regards!

I know this video is at least 1 year old but I’ve just purchased this saw this week. Dewalt must have been listening as they now have a dedicated mitre gauge storage, gotten rid of the screw adjustment on the blade insert and lengthened the arbor for a dado stack. It’s a lot tidier unit now and I know my saw and I are going to have a fabulous relationship over the next few years. I love it. It took a bit of fettling to tweak it perfect as it wasn’t perfectly true straight out of the box, but a hell of a lot better than my crappy old Ryobi. I bought a couple of Diablo blades and some feather boards but honestly the feather boards will see some use as I have a disability and need to keep my hands and fingers well away from the blade. The Dewalt blade is a lot better than most reviews indicate and surprisingly when you hit that stop switch the blade stops in about 3 seconds. I can’t see the Diablo blades being used that much. A great saw for anyone considering it and those that can afford it, (it’s over $1100.00 in Australia). Thanks for your review. 🇦🇺👍

I do a lot of turning. So I cut down bowl blanks and other project blanks for the lathe. I also built the rolling stand the saw sits on and have constructed a few signs. It's a great tool for precision cuts if you get it set up correctly. And that's not difficult at all.

Nice review, thanks! I'm getting my DW745 tomorrow as it's on sale here. For the extension cord, I really not recommend a 16 gauge (AWG). 14awg is rated at 15 amps, and if you have a long extension, the total amps will be over 15 amps because of wire resistance, you will have a voltage drop at the end. The longer the extension, the higher the resistance. Get a small 14awg or a long 12awg extension and never be worried about it.

Being a DIY type at home I use my 745 for a good number of projects. Had it for about a decade now. It sure is a solid build. I do agree on the included miter gauge..piece of junk...but have not needed it for much.

Excellent video. I've had this saw for about a year and it's a great little machine and very precise. I added a an Incra V 27 to it because as you mentioned, the included crosscut piece is very disappointing. Other than that, it's a great tool.

We are home renovations contractors and use this saw, only the one one the stand. I can say, somewhat embarrassingly, that we have been abusing this saw for the past three years and it has works flawlessly. Overall I am very particular about our tools and tool trailer, but this saw has pretty well taken a beating,

Hello sir from Montreal , Quebec, Canada. I bought the exact table saw as you are demonstrating. As an artist I need to rip pieces that are about 2” or 1”3/4 wide and then need to do about a 22.5 angle on these pieces in order to be able to build my own frames with cross bars and all and then wrap my canvas and staple it all…. You are such a great teacher and certainly someone who understands details…. I bought a lot of Festool tools…. ( change of life after dying on a gurney in the hospital and having two of my left hand fingers amputated….) I am an artist and tried in several ways to do does Stretcher Bars….. the name for the wood to stretch a canvas over it…… and all seems to point out to a table saw that you mentioned in your video and that I have….. I have bought all the safety accessories. But I’m terrified to cut an 8 foot long 2x2 and make it slightly thinner and then cutting that whole piece at an 22.5 degree angle….. I would appreciate your thoughts even though you have posted this a while ago…… I’m not a woodworker but an artist painter…… Your video is exceptional and you are a teacher of explaining properly and showing safety. . jx14aby yes it does. DeWalt’s website has a chart that shows the specs and capabilities of each saw, if you’re ever in doubt.

Thanks to your Ridgid review, I almost bought it, due to the sale price of $199. I missed the sale. However, I saw this at the Depot for $299 w/ stand. So, for the equal price to the Ridgid, I went with the better fence and bought this today. 10% military discount don't hurt either. Thank you for the review.

The main reason I bought this saw was the rack and pinion fence design. My prior saw ( like most saws) had a single lever that released the fence allowing it to slide in or out. While better saws use a more accurate slide system with the fence staying more parallel front to back with the blade, all have enough play that you have to take your tape out and measure the distance from the front and rear of the blade to the fence to insure it is straight (and they almost never are). With this saw that issue is gone. Now when I move the fence it stays perfectly parallel and using the built in ruler I can set the distance of my rip and it is spot on every time. Huge time saver.

If you believe you may ever need to do a rip cut then you will need a table saw... which does everything a miter saw does as well.

I do not use the dewalt for sites but I use a Festool model and the dust extraction works very well but every now and then I still have to get in and give it a good clean. Dewalt probably has good dust extraction as well. A good Vacuum set up probably will mean a lot less cleaning.

I use the Dust Right collector, I’ve got all of my tools rigged so I can move the hose to the one I’m using. I went brain dead and failed to hook up my table saw one day. I was cutting Walnut and I found out just how effective the dust collector is when the saw ejaculated a cloud of fine sawdust into an open drawer on my workbench, lol.

Great vid, 2 questions, 1) did you aftermarket mitre gauge fit the slot? I've seen a complaint that the slot is non standard. 2) how well does the dust collection work?

MicklebladeI have not done much research into an aftermarket miter gauge. But like you I've seen many people trying to find one that fits without any luck. The dust collection is okay for a table saw in this class. Thanks for stopping by and posting your questions.

John, if you're using the factory miter gauge, there's a little square you push the long end of your gauge into and press the other end down into a slot right behind the cord management. : ) -jim

I just bought this saw (Finland). The US model seems to be a lot better than European model, and it costs half of what it costs in Europe. Cheapest I could find (including shipping) were ~600$, some even close to 800$. US model has better blade guard (split & transparent), better on/off switch (can even switch off with knee), better insert (twist lock vs. screw lock). This video was made over a year ago and it looks like US gets updated model and Europe uses older model.

Sami Marjeta I have often wondered why there is such a difference between US models of table saws and models shipped to other countries. I suspect it is due to Tariffs and safety regulations found in different countries. At least that's my guess. I too have noticed the difference in safety features. Thanks for stopping by, Cheers.

Very interesting way of designing a fence. Are the rack and pinion made of metal? What are the tooth measurements? How does the locking of the linear actuator work? I tried to take a peek when you turned the saw upside down, is there a clamp with a spring that presses locking bricks against the moving rails on both sides? How much play is there when moving the fence, during locking, and after locking it? I'm curious, maybe at some point I while use a design like this for my own builds. I would love to see some measurements. Thank you for your in-depth review of the saw, its inner workings, and the video material you provide of the saw from different angles.

Hi Instant Muffin - The rail system is made entirely of metal and locks very securely front and back. It will not wiggle or move. Without measuring the teeth I do not believe there is a direct relationship between their spacing and the scale on the top. If you are thinking about applying any of these design/functions into your own build you might consider getting a used one from Craigs List or FB Market Place so that you can have one on hand for measurements... then resell it when you are done with your build. Good review, BUT there is a storage place for the miter. I actually saw it when you flipped it over. It is located underneath, and near the motor. You also left out a key feature. When you place the fence on the regular pins you use the yellow measurements. Or you can gain I believe about 4 inches by placing the fence on the outer most pins in which case you would refer to the white measurements.

You should be able to. However, I would recommend a second set of hands unless you build a comprehensive outfeed table for it.

sultan Merchant Yes, you should not have any problems at all cutting a piece of Plywood this size. I would recommend having a second pair of hands to help you and make sure the Dewalt is on a very stable base.

Your slides (front & back) have more teeth which allows 23 inches of rip instead of 20 inches. I have the same model but at some point they added more teeth to those rails.

Question for you, what are the dimensions of the table saw? I am building a portable workbench and am planning on upgrading to this table saw within the next year. I’m looking for 1. Height from workbench to the top of the table surface 2. Depth of the table saw top from front to rear. The dimensions online are overall and aren’t what I need. Can’t find a display in store to measure from unfortunately.. if you could do that I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks man, great video!

I have one of these and the blade has always been out of alignment both at 90 degrees and at 45 degrees. I have done everything I know to get it aligned but it seems that it will not adjust properly. Can you give mer some insight into how to properly adjust this! Thanks

Christopher Claudio Skierka I found this table saw to be very well aligned from the factory and very accurate. But, let's pretend you get one from the factory that needs alignment. Once you get it realigned it will stay that way due to the fence control mechanism. I would be interested to know what you finally decide.

sorsby With the way the fence control mechanism is designed, that would not be possible. If you look at my video that reviews this saw where I turn it upside down and show this mechanism, you'll see what I'm talking about.

One of these saws just found it way onto our jobsite and we were discussing its features. Maybe you know....help me understand the flip part of the fence (7:14 in the video), this does not flip flush with the deck and best I can tell, has no adjustment to make it so? With it being 1/4" or so above the deck, your 90° rip cut will not be actually 90°. What am I missing here?

I want to buy only one saw to finish my hardwood floor. Do you think this is enough for all hardwood floor needs? Do i need another miter saw? I am not not a regular hobbiest for wood, but i just like slowly finish my home project this time, i m wondering if this tool can do all the hardwood plank cuts? Not not much baseboard involvement as i do not intend to change the current baseboard. Thank you.

Wendy Wu There are several variables here. If you have a significant number of planks to cut, they are longer then 32" and wider then 6" then a miter saw might be a better choice. This is because a Miter saw is much better at making a larger number of cross cuts on longer panels. If you don't have that much work to do and you are planning on other projects that require long rip cuts then this table saw will do just fine. If you go with a Miter saw be sure to get one that has a cross cut capacity equal or too or greater then the width of your panels. Hey Saifur - All of the powers tools I have reviewed or owned have not been water proof. At one point, like you, I had to keep my tools in a small metal shed in the rainy humid climate of Florida. My power and hand tools did not do well with the humidity. If you must keep it in your shed I would suggest that you keep it well covered from condensation and perhaps leaks in the shed. Maybe a tarp of some kind. If you saw came in a plastic bag this might be useful as well. Obviously, it would be best to keep in your house if at all possible out of the humidity and possible leaks.

Humidity is terrible for power tools. Not only is it unfriendly to the electrical parts, but will rust the surface.

I just purchased the DeWALT 7480 and I don't understand when to use the riving knife in the upper and lower position, and when I tried to put the blade guard on in the upper position it doesn't seem to work with the blade guard. Can you please do a video explaining the reason for the two positions, and how to use the blade guard when the riving knife is in the upper position. I can't find any videos the give a good explanation on the use of it on the DeWALT 7480. With kickback installed.

Steve Ray The riving knife should be positioned in the up position for when you want to use the kickback and the blade guard. When you are doing non through cuts you want to lower the riving knife to the same level as the blade or lower. When in this position you cant really attach either safety device and do a non through cut. All of the safety features on this class of saw are basically the same. I am very new at woodworking and this is my first saw. I need to see a video explaining what is meant by thru cut and non thru as well as how to set up the safety devices in each case and to see the saw blade raised and lowered in each position to see what the safety parts do. The video you sent me to helped a little, but it adds on the safety devices differently. The notches are different. I need to see it visually on a Dewalt 7480

Don't cake that paste wax on the table top, a thin coat and wipe it off, because if there's too much it slightly coats the wood in streaks, and then it won't absorb the finish if its not ot completesanded off.

I need to cut an 11/32” groove in a 3/4” piece of wood but the riving knife won’t allow me to cut that shallow. Am I missing something?

WorkMateGuy thanks for getting back. I’ve got the riving knife in the through cut position. I called Dewalt, actually Bostich it seems, got put on hold, disconnected. Called again, got shuffled around by people who only had the manual to go by I guess. Finally, a guy who said he was a Dewalt tech said if I had the knife set for through cut I should be fine. I said all my cuts are through and I’m not able to make the knife go any lower. So he said with a smirk in his voice, take the river out all together, as if any fool should have figured it out.. I said I didn’t want to lose the anti kickback, so he told me I’m using the wrong saw for fine work.

Steve Kirkland There are other devices you can use for antikickback. A good featherboard works and there are devices that attach to your fence. Most kickback is when the board jams between the blade and fence. If you're cutting a groove (not a through cut) that shouldn't be a problem. I usually stand somewhat to the left of the blade.

@@TheKirk48 Some just cut the knife to equal or lower height of blade to accommodate through cutting. And you still get the safety feature of what a rising knife prevents.

I see this is an old video so I don't know if you still respond to comments but hopefully you do. I recently bought one but there is a problem or is it? The problem is that the arbor is almost a 1/16" smaller than the hole in the freud diablo saw blade, is that normal? I don't think that's normal because the blade will be off balance.

Good question! I have not worked with a Freud Diablo before. I know the arbor on this saw is pretty much standard which makes me wonder if there is some form of adapter for the Freud for this arbor???

For 15 amps the minimum wire size is 14AWG in Canada. 16AWG would be too small and I'd be suprised if you could buy a 16AWG extension cord unless it is for christmas lights or something.

Do you use this saw? The reason I ask is yes it has dust collection that works half way you still get a lot of dust when used. When talking about a tool it's always good to give the good and bad. Other wise you can send people buying things that are not 100% grate. Just saying.

I have tested a number of these bench top table saws and most all of them leave something to be desired when it comes to dust control. I have seen some hacks that involve using duct tape to close any gaps. These have limited affect on dust control. Thanks for stopping by and posting. Cheers.
