Getting your own authority is the goal of many Professional Truck Drivers.
Buying a truck is a big responsibility, but getting your own authority is even bigger.
This program will cover the specific steps that must be taken in order to obtain operating authority, as well as some decisions that need to be considered prior to starting the process.

I am in Pennsylvania I look it up all I have to do is get a truck get insurance pay the 300.00 to my dot number or 500.00 for my dot and MC number . And I can go to the load board pick loads it take 21days to get your numbers because they do a background check.

If you haul a broker load GET THERE SURETY BOND!! Make sure that it is a valid one and I guarantee that you will get paid if not by the broker then by there surety insurance company and they will shut the broker down!

Please update this video for 2020, lots has changed since 2016. Now it’s easy to get fuel cards, it’s quick to get paid than waiting for weeks.

Best company to go with to get authority is Getloaded and lookup there plans for under a $1000 bucks

Bruh she didn’t even mention factoring company ,that get u money in advanced instead of waiting 30-45. Days also fuel cards that ppl offer where’s have net 2 where they take money out your account once a week

Can I start my Authority and pay the insurance just one time to activate it while I'm working as a company driver saving my money so I can get some time under my Authority while building my capital or do you have to keep the insurance active in order for the Authority to stay activate?

Yes Bernie, you can start the process to obtain your authority at anytime. However, your authority will not be active until you bind it with your insurance. Thus, you will not be able to operate under your authority until you have the minimum level of insurance. If you cancel your insurance, your authority will no longer be active. I suggest that you call into the office at 816-229-5791, and talk with our Permits and Licensing Department.

If you have your Authority, you don't pay tax when purchasing a new truck? Or is that an internet rumor?

You have to pay FET [federal excise tax whether you are a MC [motor carrier] or not but some states exempt sales tax on parts & supplies used in interstate commerce. You usually have to fill out a form providing your business information.

RogueTriumph I didn’t pay sales tax when I purchased a truck from my company and financed through a dealership in Dallas, TX. I was expecting sales tax and they told me why, but I forgot what they said. Hahaha.

JOE SILVERS I didn’t feel they were necessarily talking bad about trucking, but just stating problems others have had who got into this business without sufficient capital and knowledge.
